Pretty stupid if the fee is just 4m quid to be fair, that we didn't take a gamble that is. It's a nothing money, we have no strikers and not that I'm a fan of Austin but he surely can score a goal.
He has also struggled with injuries quite a bit this season. I think he's also the type of player who benefits from being the 'main man' at a club so a midtable club is probably about his level.

Bit of a crock, no? I don't think he's played much at all for QPR. It is a great fee though.

Quick look at wiki says he's only played 16 games for QPR this season but in those 16 games he's scored 10. Lukaku pretty much plays every game though for us so i'm surprised we haven't tried to at least loan a striker in to provide solid back-up (Have Kone but it would be wrong to be reliant on him) since Tarashaj won't be here until the summer. Even if it went wrong 4m is easily replaced. He might be after big wages though.

Watch him bang in goals and leave for a big fee.
He'd be 27/28 with reservations about his fitness record. Nothing too big if he does make a move up.

Yeah, looks like he played a lot more than I expected. Hasn't played since the 15th of December though, so he has been out for a month then.

Terrific signing for both really. QPR paying for not letting him go in the summer, but it's worked out far better for Austin as he's in a club perfect for him, should play, should get the opportunities to bang them in which will potentially open up a world cup slot.

For comparison, Danny Ings completely stagnated at Liverpool, even before the injury....it was obviously he'd fall back in the pecking order once their summer dealings were finished.

There'll be large signing on fee going to Austin due to him being out of contract in the summer. The 4 Million fee quoted is likely to be what the clubs will have agreed for the sale.

Do we think Austin will be a starter for Southampton?

If so, that's a great move for him.

Isn't there some sort of limit on 'outside' players they can have? They've got Keane and Gerrard already and are interested in Lescott.
They can only have 8 international players by default, but can trade international slots with other teams. The other limit is only 3 designated players that can be paid far higher wages than the salary cap allows, but maybe Cole would accept a regular contract with them?

That's the one I was thinking of.

Awful opinion. If the right players are available, we should be in for them. We're nowhere near a title challenge and very thin on the ground as it is.

Yes but they're not, or very rarely are in January.

LvG knew what he was going into the season with as the summer window closed, yet he still sold Hernandez and loaned Januzaj at the last minute, he shouldn't expect United to overspend on the potentially the wrong players to get him out of hole in January.

Save the money for the new guy in the summer unless something exceptional comes up now.

Wasn't he supposed to be a massive talent? What happened there?

To be fair, Dongou's development has been stalling for a a couple of years now. I hope he can make it somewhere else, he's capable of playing at a top level. He's only one player among many who had their contracts rescinded or sold this week by the club. Some see it as moves that the club wasn't able to do in the past summer due to the FIFA ban.

Academy management has been in a mess for a while though. Aitor the top scorer for Barca B this season had his contract rescinded last week. The most promising Left back we have Grimaldo was sold to Benfica for 1M! Yet we have Adriano and Matheiu as backup for Alba. Both are injured right now.
