He's a defender of Klopp's liking, can handle the ball well (for a CB), is young (23 or 24) but nevertheless experienced, including Champions League.
It'll be a massive loss to Schalke because he's not only their best CB IMHO but leaves them - if reports that he rejected a contract extension are true - as a free agent.
Looks to me like something has been agreed with Liverpool and the player to either wait till the summer to get him for a free or get him for a low price this window if Schalke accept it. Given Liverpool have got Caulker on loan, I reckon they're happy to just wait until the summer and sign him then.

That's possible but I actually don't think so.
As I got to know Klopp, he'd push for getting a more solid defender than Caulker in ASAP. Although it's the last time Schalke can cash in for Matip this window, I don't think they'll let him go.
Also, Matip is used to play Champions League, this season Europa League. There's hardly an incentive for him to decide now before it's clear if an EPL club
can offer European football to him.
Neven Subotic is an obvious choice for Klopp and because they have been very close ever since Neven has come as a 17 year old to Mainz, didn't play a lot under Tuchel and has always wanted to move to the EPL one day. It would be a perfect fit this window but at least for the time being, Tuchel veto-ed his departure. Neven is a different type of CB than Matip though. He's the no-nonsense defender type but mean BVB fans say that the ball isn't his friend. :wenger:

I wonder, is there something in place that stops United from making a deal with a La Liga team to buy players with Buy Out clauses?

Say right now, if United wanted to sign Griezeman, it is not as easy as paying his clause and convincing him due to the whole tax thing.

But what if United had a deal with someone like Real Betis, got Real Betis to make the purchase - since its tax and hassle free. And then sign him from Betis with maybe a small commission. I am assuming there is something in place to stop this from happening?

Andros Townsend is gunning for the record clubs played for , be 12 when he debuts at Newcastle and they don't really keep many players for long, so 13 by next summer I say. Insane.

Swiss tabloid BLICK reports Timm Klose (Swiss CB) joins Norwich from Wolfsburg for €10m, medical on Monday, contract until 2019.

Sky sports news tweeting anything and everything basically.

What happened to Sky Sports News? It used to be quite credible for transfers and now they just seem to go with any old rumours they can find. Awful.

"news just in....De Gea staying"

How the ruddy hell is that news?

On the one hand I want to rage out and scream "hire a DOF!" at the screen. On the other, I'm just completely apathetic to the whole shambles by now.

Expecting failed bids for Neymar, Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, James, Lewandowski, Muller, Pogba, and Hazard; accompanied by a bold proclamation of intent.
