Hardly surprising if true. He's a lame duck manager who might be gone as early as monday if we get stomped at anfield. You'd hope it's actually the scouting department calling the shots on the actual targets and not Woody copying his most successful FM save though.

I remember Arsenal signing Patrick Vieira on Wenger's say so before he even took over, so if we have someone lined up already we might be looking to act on his recommendations, but that kind of foresight is probably asking too much of the clowns running the circus.

That would be too optimistic of anyone to expect such high standards from this mob.

It seems that this has always been the case to me, otherwise why pay £60m for ADM who LVG hardly wanted to play.

LVG name checked him 2 weeks before we signed him. I think LVG was a bit naive with him, he thinks footballers with exemplary skill sets are ideal to be moulded into his system. In this case he couldn't have been more wrong and probably didn't anticipate Di Maria turning into an incredible sulk and putting zero effort in.

Shaw and Herrera were club signings, LvG even said so himself. They certainly don't look like Woodward signings, but more likely targets identified by our scouting team. I don't see how it's so far fetched that any transfer activity we do this month would be similar. Giving LvG more money to spend on philosophical players would be far more unbelievable to me.

ADM would have been ideal for the system LvG now plays - unfortunately we spent most of last season getting the players used to the system and tinkering with it while ADM ended up being a prima donna who is perfectly suited to an easy life at PSG but not to the PL

So Woodward is now supposed to be the one identifying targets, some on here actually believe this crap, how gullible can you be!

I don't think it's that unbelievable. For instance, Christian Purslow signed players for Liverpool, and what was his qualification to do that? Sometimes the non-football types can't resist getting involved.

There's a difference between signing players and identifying them though. How can a non-football specialist identify talent?. If Chris Purslow did actually do this, then I doubt he is now doing that at Chelsea. I cannot possibly imagine that happening at United. I can see Ed saying to the manager, we would like to sign a "Star" player or major signing but not actually identifying a specific player (unless it was one of Messi Ronaldo or Neymar)

That's a Liverpool thing though, they'll let anyone sign players. FFS, they let Brendan Rodgers pick a few....

Louie, Louie! We need to sing this Andrija Zivkovic lad......... *gets laptop*.

Im curious, who identifies players to get at Real Madrid? Perez isnt exactly a football man, he must have someone he trusts next to him.

If it was true would it actually surprise anyone? The club is being ruined from the top.
Why are teams like Leicester strengthening in numbers while we are doing nothing when it's clear we are short on numbers and quality in most positions. It seems we are heading for another summer of chasing unobtainable targets under Woodward.

Woody has visions of us as the Real Madrid of the North.

Not tweet related but im taking alot of bets on Berihino to Chelsea in the last 2 hours he has gone from 6's to 3's will be 5/2 soon I reckon

Surely it's our scouts that are identifying the targets, Woody would just be giving the go ahead from the information provided to him based upon the clubs strategy.

I don't know why it's so unfeasible to some. LvG has stated a number of times that some "his" signings were tracked by the club for some time.

I thought it was obvious that Woodward basically wants United to be as 'glamorous' as Madrid. And this involves signing big names on big contracts.
Di Maria would have been a target, even with Moyes as manager. And (bearing in Mind Di Maria's reasons for joining the club) he'd probably have joined just the same. Same with Falcao.

I remember when Kroos went to Madrid, he gave an interview.
In that he said he was always inclined to sign for Madrid.
And if he signed for any club in England, it would only have been Chelsea.

Based on that, I have to say that I don't see him joining MUFC. The truth is that he is probably too good for us.
We need to aim for players of a lower tier, because they are attainable, cheaper and can still improve us.

In truth, our squad is pretty bad, so we don't need elite level players to improve us. Our standard is 4th place and I'm sure players who may join us, are aware of this fact.
I've pretty much accepted that we are now competing with Liverpool and Tottenham - I know it sucks, but that's just how it is.

@sunama

I think it'll depend on whether or not you, Pool and Spurs play Champions League. That's a big pulling factor for elite players with ambitions not just for their bank account but themselves on the field.

Klopp on Matip: "There is nothing to say about it. If and when something is fixed you will be the first to know."

No #LFC deal for Joel Matip yet

He's a defender of Klopp's liking, can handle the ball well (for a CB), is young (23 or 24) but nevertheless experienced, including Champions League.
It'll be a massive loss to Schalke because he's not only their best CB IMHO but leaves them - if reports that he rejected a contract extension are true - as a free agent.

Is he out of contract or are they offering Villa a fee?

Can't remember seeing an MLS sde trying to actually buy a player before?
I remember Toronto paying €10m for Michael Bradley, there are probably others.
