You have to build a team around his strengths. I don't see Van Gaal as the type of manage for that. I see him more of wanting to build a team unit.

The same applies to Bale tbh, I'd rather have Ronnie than Bale, as hes a far better player IMO, although Bale is younger and has time to develop further

Come on... he's a superb player and would instantly not only make us more appealing to players but sponsors and also strike fear into defenders/managers/players in the league. I doubt it will happen, but if there was an option then we have to jump at it.

Agreed. I did write that he remains a favourite. I just think we have more pressing needs in the rear.

Im ambivalent too. Ronaldo's game style has changed massively. That flying winger we loved circa 06-07 is well gone. He's just turned into an uber-efficient predator who's game is 90% about banging the ball into the net. That's no bad thing necessarily, but I do think we'd be a bit disappointed if we're hoping for that guy skinning defenders and flying down half the length of the pitch at full pelt.

He'd be the best no9 in the EPL

Would hate us to have one of them...

;)

Not sure even Ronnie could breakthrough the kinds of defences that are now being put up against us in the league. We need to solidify the rear before adding to the top stars that have made us front heavy.

We need to solidy the defence, but top heavy we are not this season. None of those attacking players have performed bar Young, and a bit of Mata now and then. Rooney obviously had mitigating circumstances.
We have quite a few attacking players living off past reputation IMO

We clearly are top heavy, ending up with only one top defensive midfielder who is injured again and three above average CBs while all these attacking players fill the bench. Rationalisation is required and a balance restored.

We may be top heavy with regard to numbers, but I do not think we are in terms of quality. RVP is well on the decline, Falcao still needs time to recover from his injury (and there are no guarantees he will make it all the way back to his best), Rooney is still Rooney - lots of upsides, but still that shocking first touch which slows / stops our attacks frequently.

I agree other areas need addressing as well, but the number of games this season where we have struggled to create, and then convert goalscoring chances show that attention and money needs to be paid in that third as well.

I don't understand why its always either/or when it comes to do we need defensive or attacking options. We clearly need both, the squad is unbalanced defensively yes, but the boss also said we have no striker with 20 goals. We need to strenthen both the attack and defence.

EDIT: Whoops this is the twitter thread, so I'll stop now :)

The Gundogan story seems like it could be true. We have a deal agreed with Gundogan and will settle fee with BvB when the move happens as per Depay transfer.

Agreed. I have written elsewhere the same about the front players. I just think we need to first of all address the rear. We can't keep giving ridiculous goals away to crap sides because of two or three players just don't fit the position. We have hammered some sides only to let in tame goals. Once the balance is restored I think RVP needs to be released, Falcao is not the man (sadly), Fellaini needs replanting, and Rooney needs positional stability.

Yep - agree with all of that.

Yeah pretty much agree

I remain sceptical over Gundogan and his injury. Given the problems with Rio's back injury and our general level of injuries this season, is Gundogan really the kind of player LVG wants?

If we can get him for £15m then he is worth the risk imo. And he has played like 30 times this season.

??? Is this the price now? Wow we should definately do that

There's definite improvement to be made with Mourinho's Chelsea, we should expect them to spend big this summer.
