I wouldn't disagree with getting an upgrade on Valencia but I just think he is under valued. He will be a quality back up and I'd rather have him over Rafael who quite frankly although a better right back is made of candy floss. Clyne I haven't be overly impressed by and would rather have Coleman. I do think our main focus should be 2 centre mids and a winger before right back. Bale should be our top target then one of Gundogan/Strootman (both to risky) and Schneiderlan/Pogba would be obviously a wet dream but highly improbable.

I like Coleman too but I don't think he is a Van Gaal type player, for similar reasons as Rafa. I would prefer to watch Coleman or Rafa any day but all things considered I would be happy with Clyne. If the PL get their way we need some good young English players.

I'm not convinced how good Clyne really is I'd rather have Barkley/Stones even TC back as squad players than Clyne as a starter if it means filling our quota. Maybe I'm wrong on Clyne but I've watched him half a dozen times and I've been really underwhelmed to the extent I think both Valencia and Rafael are better.

Most likely nonsense from the Sunday Express but i would love to see Berbatov in the PL.

Clyne is easily better than Valencia. Rafael at his best is better, of course, but Rafael at his best has been 2 years ago and slowly but confidently he's reaching Ando levels of being perma-injured. I like him but I don't think that there is any point on saying that he is better than X player considering that an injured Rafael (which is at-least for half of the season) isn't better than anyone.

Coleman is definitely better than Clyne though. I think that Darmian is better too. Probably the best we ca do is get Dani Alves considering that he will be free and can give us 2-3 good seasons, and until then we can find some long term solution which is better than Clyne.

Yeah, if we're going to get Alves, might as well keep Valencia as back up to him and avoid buying Clyne.

I've got nothing against Clyne though. Not watched enough of him. But he is part of a very frugal Southampton, so he must be doing something right.

I think it's not just a coincidence that most of Rafael's issue started happening when Fabio was shipped out on loan then on sale. Not saying he's playing sicknote, but obviously someone who, by his own admission, very close to who he spent nearly every day of his life with is now not there, maybe knocked a bit of the mental strength out of him.

As for Alves, he's 32 now. I don't believe he's been the strongest defensively and if we get him now i believe we'll get last seasons Patrice Evra, where he was constantly caught out of position, far to high up the pitch and treading through mud to get back.

Good signing despite all the doom sayers who only want fancy names forgein imports.

(though isn't Duncan Castles a known BSer?)

Well he used to be an independent journo, selling stories to whoever.. mainly goal.com... Now he's employed full time at the Sunday Times. Must be doing something right.

Not from what I've seen Revan I'd personally avoid Clyne he looks stone average. Coleman yes as offensively he add but Clyne for me not good enough. (My opinion is based on a handful of games so I will happily except a more in depth opinion on him) but from what I've seen stay clear I hope.

Id prefer Coleman too but Everton will go all Levy on us

Hey Rams :)

I agree, Everton will rip the shit out of it & demand £25m+ or some shite figure like that.

Coleman gets injured quite alot though, so do we want another sick-note defender in the ranks?! If Clyne's been identified by the club as the best option, then i guess we have to trust them to make the right call.

Money's no object with us & we could have gone foreign on this one, but Clyne seems to be the preferred choice or that Alves doesnt want to come to us.

Personally, i'd get rid of sicknote /small man syndrome Rafa & bring in Clyne & Alves (if possible) to fight it out for the right-back slot. Alves is a free agent when La Liga finishes too, so there's only wages to pay. We'd be sorted at RB for the next number of years..

Fabinho. He's the best available RB in the market imo and very young. He'd be my choice.
He's promising but Ligue 1 and the Premiership are two entirely different prospects, its also curious that Real decided against signing him on a permanent deal.

Name a right back who is. Clyne is good enough for any top club imo.

I'm not saying any RBs around are particularly outstanding but that doesn't stop Clyne from being relatively average either.

As for the bold, even ignoring the top European teams, he definitely wouldn't get in the Chelsea or City sides. Hell, he wouldn't even get into the Everton first eleven. Then you have teams like Arsenal who have a more talented player in Bellerin who will likely surpass Clyne over the coming years too.

Sums up my thoughts tbh

I will probably forget to quote you in a year from now but ok. I think you will be very wrong, but ok.

Anytime I have watched Southampton he has been one of, if not the, best player. For England, admittedly, he needs to improve.

Clyne is average at best. Wouldn't mind him as backup, certainly would mind to have him as first choice RB.

Clyne has looked average each time I've seen him - certainly nothing about him that screams out he should be playing at Manchester United. But that's for the Clyne thread, not here.

At the top left it says:

'Rode duivels moet minstens 40 miljoen opgbrengen'. Now I'm from SA and speak Afrikaans, so my rough translation leads to:

'Red devils must bring at least 40 million'. Red devils? Are PSG red devils or AS Roma or is this a reference to United?

Red Devils is the nickname of the Belgian team. They're saying the Belgian will cost 40m
