I wonder if the current exchange rate might make transfers from Europe more likely in this window, that Laporte buyout price is looking more attractive practically every day.

Extracting a player from Bilbao is seemingly very difficult at the best of times, but with a week to go in this window, it would surely be nigh on impossible.

Dortmund have shown in the past they're not bothered about money, and with them being in the position they are currently they'd rather hold onto Hummels.

Varane signed a new contract not long ago and there are no signs that Real want to sell him. Yeah, he's not been playing as much as he'd have probably wanted, but it's clear his future is there.

Godin'd probably be obtainable, but I'd prefer Laporte for that price. Godin'd most likely be cheaper.
If he's going to carry on with 3, why not play a left footer as the central of the 3?

Would be delighted with this transfer, but I think we need somebody more experienced. Somebody who can keep the others calm and orchestrate the defense, Hummels would be perfect.

It's probably bullshit because it's Ballbag, but if we do end buying him, our defense would be set up for years. DDG, Jones, Rafael, Shaw and Rojo + Laporte all 24 or younger.

Sign Laporte, Varane, Pogba and that young striker who's scoring a goal a game in Ligue 1 and we'll have a French core of world class players for 10 years.

He gets a bad press from a lot on here, Ballbag, but I find him ok. I feel he's been more spot on, than not, if I'm honest.

He's one of the few journalists who puts himself out there, too. And even if the transfer doesn't go through, his knowledge normally has some elements of credibility.

If people read what they want to hear it's "Ballague is usually spot on." If Ballague is reporting something negative then it's "he's an unreliable idiot."

Ballague is like most journos. He's just reporting information that he's been fed. I'm sure he tries to filter what he is told but he is reliant on his sources. This means he will get some wrong and some right.

I don't think he's as bad as some of the guys from the Daily Express or Star who are just making shit up.

He's in the middle, he doesn't spout constant bullshit and he gets a fair amount right whilst getting some wrong, its worth taking an interest to.

Definitely not as bad as those papers, but he isn't as reliable as the Times or Guardian.

Ballague has excellent contacts within the Spanish League, that's definitely a fact. Pretty sure I read somewhere that Balague is one of the few journalists that Cristiano Ronaldo is sort of friends with.

Even tho Ronaldos suing him?

Real Madrid is going to be busy if there is any danger of them receiving a transfer ban. I'm sure they'll receive the same postponement of their charge so that they can spend huge in one summer transfer window.

Wasn't aware of that, but if it helps, the bit of information I posted was before then. It's also possible that Ronaldo told him something in confidence, and Ballague ended up writing that in his book.
