Clyne: "My contract, we're still negotiating. I'm negotiating with my agent & also with the club so, yeah, we'll wait until April."

I should probably also point out that Marca were linking Real with Laporte earlier too:

Him and Varane could be quite the partnership for them and France.

Laporte looks like a massively good prospect, but for £31million we can sign one of Godin, Varane or Hummels surely?

For 31m we won't sign Varane or Hummels, and while Godin is available for around that price, he probably doesn't want to join us, right now.

True but it's a massive amount of money, especially for a centre half.

Dortmund have shown in the past they're not bothered about money, and with them being in the position they are currently they'd rather hold onto Hummels.

Varane signed a new contract not long ago and there are no signs that Real want to sell him. Yeah, he's not been playing as much as he'd have probably wanted, but it's clear his future is there.

Godin'd probably be obtainable, but I'd prefer Laporte for that price. Godin'd most likely be cheaper.

I definitely like the look of him, but who would we pair him with, he's only a kid himself. Unless we are bringing in another experience CB.

He'd be perfect for a back 3.
I know people hate this formation attacking wise but we've been very hard to beat playing this way. Now it's all about adjusting and tweaking to combine the two.
Add Hummels in the summer and a bit of pace up front ( bale on right of the three and Di Maria on opposite side? ) and well have a hell of a team.
Oh and sign a RB Louis...

Speaking of Hummels, seems no one posted this earlier:

This thread misses @Adnan

I wonder if the current exchange rate might make transfers from Europe more likely in this window, that Laporte buyout price is looking more attractive practically every day.
They were talking about that on Sky Sports News earlier, yes the exchange rate if very favourable at the moment.

Although I love Laporte as a defensive prospect, this would coincide with Rojo acclimatizing to the English game and really settling into the squad. Van Gaal wouldn't field 2 exclusively left footed central defenders, that is pretty much set in stone. With that in mind, one would imagine a right footed defender makes more sense with the current squad, unless the manager is willing to scrap his traditional system or it's an either/ or scenario with Rojo and Laporte alternating as starters.

Go and get him now, why wait till the summer if all you have to do is pay a release clause and the player himself is willing to come?

If he's as good as they say he is it sounds easily worth it.

Exactly. At only 21, like you said, if he's as good as people suggest, then we'd have him for a very long time, and in this day an age, 31M would prove to be a bargain, providing he's a success.

Only thing is, is another young centre back what we need at the moment? Some will say if we've got the chance of signing a young centre back with potential to be world class do it, but if partnered with someone who's pretty young themselves, will he step up? I mean, we see a lot of young foreign players come over and not settle that well. Look at Mangala. Regarded as one of the best young centre backs coming through at Porto, and hasn't quite happened for him at City yet. That's not to say he won't be a top centre back, though. I guess that's the risk that has to be taken.

He isn't 21 until May.

Lots of people said Mangala was overrated when City bought him. I haven't heard the same about Laporte so far.
