Delighted that ae aren't signing anyone in this window.

Delighted that ae aren't signing anyone in this window.

I have no idea how you can be 'delighted' that we're not buying players to strengthen us this window...

Ahh.

Step 1 - Identify the player - This takes around a month.
Step 2 - Now Ready to bid
Step 3 - Preparing a bid - this usually take anywhere between 6 and 18 months
Step 4 - Bid way below the asking price - Will be asked to increase the bid
Step 5 - We wont increase it significantly
Step 6 - Deal falls through - "no value in the market"
Step 7 - Player signs for someone else
Step 8 - We return next year and bid £10-12m more than what was asked the previous year

I know you have a bit of a reputation for spewing shite, but I agree with you here.

All we need for the remainder of the season is a bit of luck on the injury front and LVG playing players in their proper positions, with the 3-5-2 nowhere to be seen.

Despite all the criticism we've had for our defence, even with a staggering injury list it's still one of the best in the league statistically. It's our attacking players who have been under par, but they simply have too much quality for that to continue for the remainder of the season if the manager does his job properly.

Put the money in the kitty for the summer, safe in the knowledge we have more than enough for a top four finish. Then, go all out for the world class players who are much more likely to be available in the summer window.

Why are you using jokes that are 2 years old and no longer relevant?

It's beyond daft to say "delighted we aren't signing anyone this window". Signing Ron Vlaar would be a mistake. It would be adding another squad player when we have enough of them already. Signing Hummels or Godin would be fantastic and could give us the foundation to play an extra midfielder for the rest of the season which would then give us the fire power to push City for second.

We might find the two (lack of activity in the market and the continuation of the 3-5-2 system) are related. Van Gaal has previously claimed that the switch to 3-5-2 was made as a result of practical considerations (injuries to both full backs and no adequate cover was the reason cited, but a lack of confidence in our current CB's, and possibly the dearth of genuine wide options in the squad, are probably also contributing factors). Without addressing at least some of that this window, 3-5-2 is probably here to stay for the remainder of the season.

Not like we signed any players for big money the last 3 windows. :wenger:

Well yeah, he was obviously fishing for attention saying he'd be delighted. I can get on board with being happy to leave our transfer business until the summer though. Not that I wouldn't take Godin or somebody of his ilk should they be available in January.

Perhaps, that is LVG's rational behind it. However, you only need to look at the players in our squad to know that we have the quality and quantity to play 4-4-2 and finish top four.

** Tumbleweed **

This must be the quietest transfer window for a long time. Seriously low on rumours and only one signing that everyone had already expected since the day Valdes came to train with United. Piss poor show. You know things are bad when it's 19 days in to a one month window and United haven't even been linked with Fredy Guarin yet.

Otamendi is that Argentinian CB who is quite short, isn't he? Is he decent in the air?
He scored a header against Real in their 2-1 win the other week. He was also surprisingly good for my ultimate team this season, so that's all you need to know really. Sign him up.

Oh and he's 6ft.

I've always rated Otamendi (mostly because of FM). Strong, good in the air, no nonsense defender but gets caught out sometimes. In the right team he could be awesome.

He's only 26 right? It would be natural for him to get caught out sometimes leading to this point. Hopefully with age and experience this will happen less frequently as he enters into his peak.

Yeah? I had this memory of him being similar to Cannavaro, 5"9 or "5"10. 6ft isn't massive, particularly if he was paired with someone like Rojo, but if he's decent in the air then it might not be an issue.

35m for otamendi would be insane. you don't need to send more than 20 to get a good cb.

He'd be the third Argentinian player signed in the last 6 months.

Was he at the world cup? I don't think he was. Anyway, if he's been involved with the national team of late he'll have experience in a back 3/5. I know he's in their team right now on Fifa 15, but don't think he played at the world cup.

Was Otamendi at the WC?

I don't know anything about either defenders but 35m euros seems a lot.
