Let's see which teams have the best defences in the PL, the competitive benchmark for us: City, Chelsea and Southampton. Now, which of the defenders in those teams cost more than 20m? And please don't mention Mangala because a) Demichelis is preferred to him and b) he's shit.

That's not an answer to the question I asked. Who can we get on the market right now for the price you deem to be fair for a CB? Take into consideration the context of our desperation and the well known fact we have more funds than any team in Europe. What you are ignoring is we are there for the taking, we are buying from a position of weakness and will overpay for just about every player we buy.

This is exactly how our PR team has been dealing with transfers recently. Deny everything until it's certain we're signing someone.

Also, that's a lot of money to bid and a lot of money to reject
Exactly. I wouldn't rule out us being the team that bid even though United are denying it. Godin would cost less if im not mistaken and would be an instant fix in my eyes.

If we this is true, and say we did sign Ottamendi and Strootman for 35m each (give or take) it's a combined fee of 70m.

Just think, While we were apparently scouting them, their combined feed was around 30 million. If I were the Glazers, I'd be furious.
its a good point. it must be a combination of the glaziers wishing they invested a long time ago, and them being fecking furious in situations they did offer the money but it was declined because fergie or a someone high up decided it wasn't worth it at that time ie hazard agent fee fiasco.

I think the weak € could actually make it easier for us to buy players abroad. 35m€ would've been £32m last January.

Didn't know the Euro had weakened that much against the pound. I expected 35m to be over 30m GBP

But Evans is regressing faster than me, in front of boobies.

Well, if Otamendi keeps his progress rate.
6 months ago -> not good enough for Valencia's bench and Argentina national team.
Second best CB in La Liga, according to some posters. As good as Godin.

Shame that he only once in his career played more than 20 games in a season.

I only watch Porto in Europe or for the games against Benfica but i think that it's a normal thing Mangala played less than 60 games in 3 or 4 years. Falcao has apparently 51 games in 2 seasons.

Yea but Evans doesn't play in a foreign league, so he's never going to be as good.
Ah, of course. Must be why McNair is being written off at 19.

27, and he's getting worse.
I wouldn't say that. He's just up and down. He was superb his first two seasons at United then played poorly the season after. Had another strong campaign the year after. His inconsistency probably stems from injuries and not getting an extended run in the side, like most every other defender. When he gets a run in the side, he's shown his class.
