McNair rejected an initial offer as well supposedly.

Our contract policy when it comes to youth players is shocking. You'd have thought if any youth player manages to get 10 games for the first team, we automatically offer them a new deal or something along them lines. We'd get a few £ million out of both if we wanted to sell, even if we offered them new deals.

Don't know how you come to that conclusion. It has zero bearing

If they can leave, it's seems logical. Let's say they find clubs, we would suddenly have less CB's. OK, I know we have 4, but Rojo is back up for Shaw also, plus we always have injured players, and Evans just can't get a grip, which should mean one CB this january (plus the tweets from before).

Doubt it, they have showed anything yet, and Woodward is terrible with transfer fee's. Cant think of a club who would pay millions for Blackett, dont think a relegation side would pay millions for a squad player.

I am quite confident those 2 would sign deals at decent levels if offered which they probably will. BBC said Mcnair rejected deal in November. Makes sense from his perspective to be fair as his graph was still rising rapidly and it will be a long term deal you'd imagine. And if they leave on a free to English clubs we will due decent compensation anyway.

More worried about losing Pereira and he free to talk to foreign clubs and indications there have been weird.

Agree though that Woodward shld be more proactive with these youth players contracts.

While they both have been thrown to the lions, they haven't impressed much at all. Mcnair's been pretty awful since the game against West Ham and Blackett's been poor since been set off against Leicester.

Although I'm not sure it's been the best management by LVG (Mcnair had no experience of league football before and then to suddenly start league games for Manchester United it's hardly surprising it hasn't been successful.)

Blackett needs a constant run of games and he'll turn into a decent defender. Can see someone like Hull or QPR going for him.

Forgot about Andreas :( it's gonna be Pogba all over again

As I've said, they cannot leave when under contract.

They are not free to leave. They are under contract until the summer meaning all they can do is sign a pre contract.

Us not offering them a deal is more of a clue to our plans in the summer
Fair, makes sense.

Going to be some short meeting...

"Hi Lou...", "Yesh new defenders needed, thanksh bye".

If true, you would've thought that they'd have that conversation before it was nearly half way through the window.

But it says they can look for a club, so we are ready to sell. I am not saying that someone will come, but it looks to me that we are thinking about that, otherwise we wouldn't allow them to go (if it's true).

The Mirror also reporting that a meeting will be held today about transfers.

I honestly don't see how you get that but fair enough - they are free to negotiate because their contract ends in June. That does not mean they are able to leave now. We will not let either go this month

OK, I see it again. I understood that we have allowed them to talk to other clubs.

Why would they need to do a special official summit for transfers mid way ? You'd imagine it would be a ongoing process and done in advance.

I doubt McNair and Blackett will both be let go. One maybe but not both

I think both will go in the summer. We will bring in 2 centre backs in the summer and there a few very highly rated in the u18s set up which he could start to bring through

If LVG wants to build something then players like McNair and Blackett are likely to be shipped out anyway, be it on loan, transfer or let go. Both decent players who will go on to have solid careers I think but no great loss, the Zeki Fryers type.

Yep.

Indeed.

Yes, it does feel our transfer policy is a panic, shut the muppets up one, rather than a careful and strategic one.

There's a sense that the club are stuck at which way do they look towards. Youth or established stars? LVG called this job as a first team project when he took over and they have been quick to laud Van Gaalacticos but is this policy sustainable? The next manager will have to take over a continuation of this "project" or rip it up. It's like a cycle which has been resented of Chelsea and Madrid.

I believe that the summer debacle last year has set this club further backwards and Woodward is trying to be to reactive to make up. Then we should have backed our manager, as Champions and set a precedent for the new era. They had to get that right and they failed. Whether Moyes was right or not there were / are many cracks in the establishment. Mourinho was the man to have a long term plan whilst ensuring the club remains high up in the present moment.

I'm not even convinced that many of our recent summer signings will be here for long.

That article has one quote in it -

A source close to Van Persie said: “Increasingly it is looking like his future will be elsewhere and he is beginning to think that himself.”

I'll be happy to post the full thing if the mods allow it.

With his age being what it is, there'll probably be talks in the summer. That's what we usually do with over 30s anyway, just do a year at a time.

Nah, you can post a bullet pointed summary though

We're obviously not going to spend £150 million in January, but I'm happy we're likely to spend, panic purchasing or not.

I also don't think we should sell van Persie, he's a class act and I currently rate him above Falcao.
