If Villa want Cleverley then it's a very dangerous game for them to play. I agree, I think he'd go to Everton if asked, and as a free agent it'd mean Villa would lose their man.

Ah thanks. He'll likely sign for a free with Everton in the summer then assuming Martinez is still there that is.

It's pretty much his call though either way. If he doesn't wanna sign for them not much they can do as his contract is over in the summer anyway so he can wait.

Also, Everton or other clubs interest will be contingent on factors.

If LVG wants The Stroot, he will get the Stroot, that is something that should not worry us.
Those two have a relationship that existed before Roma and it will exist after he leaves Roma too.

The Roma president seems like a clown, he said the same thing about Benatia and Benatia didnt leave for nearly the amount he was haggling for. He must think this is still the 90's when players actually wanted to stay in Italy.

 If only it was that easy.

Does this mean they'll wait to sign him on a free, or his contract until the following summer?

Would make them complete dicks in my eyes. It seemed like it was only a loan because we couldn't push the full transfer through quick enough, with a gentleman's agreement that they'd be paying the full fee in January. That's really the only way it makes sense that both sides would agree a loan with an option to buy when the player was out of contract at the end of the loan.

More to the point - they'd be real dicks for spending real, actual money on Cleverley.

In fairness, it was clear he has no future at United and we'd probably only get 2-3 million at this point in time. I think Villa are playing a dangerous game though, I think a few teams would see Cleverly as an upgrade to what they currently have so would be no guarantee that he would stay there.

Ouch  but quite funny.

It's Cleverley, it'd be really cruel force them to pay a fee for him.

Well if we are persisting with 3-5-2 then it's probably worth buying actual wing backs, that is a wide player who excels in operating on that flank on his own, Shaw seems to be better on the overlap like a full back and Valencia doesn't really have the excellent crossing ability you would expect from your wing back.

And then buying centre backs that actually know how to pass the ball, Rojo is fine but he needs two more that can build from the back.

So how'd that work? Reus is a left winger isn't he? Unless Real plan on pushing out Bale and playing Reus on the right instead
Or Reus-Ronaldo/Benzema-Bale in front of Kroos-Modric-Isco/James ? This would've worked for us (with the number of injuries we're having), but they seem to stay fit most of the time so difficult to tell.

He's very good in the number 10 role, and could play as a false 9 too.

They will sell one of their best players as they did with Di Maria.

Don't they play 4-4-2 now? Ronaldo and Benzema upfront. Isco/Bale and James wide. So one of Isco or Bale will leave I guess.

James Rodriguez?

Not seem them in a while, but when looking on soccerway it shows them playing 433.

Exactly, that's the problem. All of those players would want to be regular starters and they don't really get injured much.

All that money on Bale and he is an either with Isco?

Since Bale has been fit both have played.
