Well he is the impatient type...

To be fair he was never going to spend the peak of his career in Italy if he realised his potential. Which he is doing. Forget 'selling club' - Serie A is a 'selling league'. Not one player that can't be bought from there for the right price I reckon.

It's just a shame were going to look like tits when we have to shed out 60m for him

I bet we looked like right tits selling Hughes to Barca before signing him back for a club record fee two years later. Big mistake that was.

Well, whether we buy him or not the damage has been done. If we buy him then that's simply us buying one of the best midfielders in Europe.

Chelsea let Matic go in 2011 and then re-bought him for £21 million in 2014 and it has worked out beautifully for them; he is now one of the best CM's in the EPL.
Pogba's price is ridiculous but thats what the best young talents (eg Neymar, James etc) are going for these days.

I don't think he is actually worth £60M or whatever but his presence in our midfield may be worth £60M to us....in the same manner City paid £34 for Fernandinho and he is the perfect compliment to Toure' and was worth every penny of that price to them.

Bear in mind I'm on a bit of a downer about United right now but I just don't see us as an attractive "project" right now. Hard enough attracting those really sought after players (e.g. Hazard, Moura, Varane) with success almost guaranteed under Fergie. But now? With all the uncertainty about his successor? Can see us finding it really hard to sign top players for the forseeable future.

Good point, but in a way that very example should show you that success isn't the key factor here in being an 'attractive' project. Right? Moura to PSG, Hazard to Chelsea - I think it's clear what is.. and it's something we're now showing a willingness to do.

To us, perhaps not - but to players, we've possibly never been such an 'attractive project'.

Are those Pogba quotes actually real? I can't imagine someone saying they love another club whilst playing for another.

Either way sign him and Hummels no matter the cost . For an extra £25 million we could have Reus too.

Dont get this whole idea that we'd look like idiots bringing back Pogba for a massive fee after giving him away. That's how football is. Stuff like this always happens. Nobody would be laughing if he's lifting Premier League trophies for us. I for one would not be crying in my pillow if we signed Pogba back. We could sign one of the best young players in the world for two Luke Shaws. Dont see how that is idiotic. The prices are made as it is. If you're going to spend, spend on the best.

Agreed. Look at the wank fest Matic has had this season, nobody gives a feck Chelsea let him go then bought him back three years later.

Who knows, maybe Juventus will give us a little discount out of feeling sorry for us

You can bet your bollocks to a barn dance that the media will feel differently with us.
Everyone hates us. Why would we be bothered. Half the crying over Moyes getting sacked was because they thought we might not be shite anymore. There's no such thing as media fairness when it comes to us. Half the pundits on telly still carry the scars of many a good hiding from our great 90s side.

Who cares?

I only realized how much we are hated when Moyes was in charge...the world came out to laugh at us during his tenure.
feck them all, buy Pogba and Hummels and lets start winning titles again and give them real reasons to hate us.

Also, because they were terrified of Alex Ferguson. The media had to face him once a week and he knew all their names. Sky and the BBC knew he was a big enough name to boycot them if he liked. Ferguson had the media in his hands. With Ferguson there, you had to keep him onside to an extent otherwise you'd be cut off.

If you want to read a good book, there's a Alex Ferguson bio called "This is the One". Its a journalist documenting Ferguson's press conferences and media interviews that he was involved in. Its brilliant. The journalists would have meetings to discuss if certain questions would put him in a bad mood or not.

If Pogba does come back, I fully expect him to be gone again in a few years to Madrid. He seems a very Ibra like player; comes, sees, conquers, leaves.

Which is particularly annoying when you consider that Chelsea chose to sell Matic. We offered Pogba more money than he got elsewhere, he just wasn't prepared to wait for his opportunity. There was atleast intention from us to keep him.

Pogba is an anomaly though. As much as I would like us to keep hold of our youngsters and in no way wish for us to do business with this in mind but... if we had kept Pogba, would he still be with us? And if so, how long for? We'd have made money out of him rather than spending a load to buy him but.. we'd have built him up and he'd have gone before he was even close to peaking if you ask me.

It's based on personal whim admittedly. But weirdly, I think this could be the only likely way that we might actually have Pogba during some of his best years.

I think West Brom would be a club that would suit Fletcher with Pulis as manager.

Yes. Fletcher won't have to do anything since Pulis relies on long balls that bypass the midfield.

The problem for Darren this season has been when he's actually had to play football.

I read that book. It was quite interesting especially as it was during the season that most questions were being asked of how long he had left.

This is why I would be unsure about getting Pogba back. His agent is the same as Ibra's funny enough, and he is a money grabber so always encourages his clients to move on after only a short period at a club so he gets another payday.

Not sure I'd agree about Ibra. Sure he's been at pretty much every Italian club but he didn't exactly conquer Barca, they wanted him out. If Barca continued to want Ibra, I think he'd still be there now.

Not all of Barca wanted him out, and he actually had a good first season at Barca despite the toubles with Pep.

Maybe not everyone but I don't think he conquered there at all. I'm not trying to down play his achievements but he's only 'conquered' France, Italy (numerous times) and the Netherlands. I think he's moved so much because he hasn't been at elite clubs (apart from Barca).

Bit of a difference from losing £20m on Matic, only to get it back on David Luiz (the player they swapped for Matic); and losing £75m on Pogba.

refresh refresh...less about muppetry these days and more about the wish to return to a balanced side
