No it's not, it's a clone site.

http://www.footmercato.net/
http://www.fichajes.com/

I have never seen them invent quotes but, they tend to stretch all their stories.

Pardon my ignorance but what's a clone site? Do they just take stories from other websites and not come up with their own or something? If that's the case how reliable are the websites they take their stories from? :p

When their redaction is involved do not trust them, but most of the time they only take the information from someone else (Marca, mundodeportivo, cadena ser, Telegraph, Telegraaf, Daily Star, etc...)

I would that first site is in Italian and second is in Spanish. That's the same site, but in other language.

Cheers.

Any idea where they go the Laporte story from?

So it's fichajes.net, and i thought of fichajes.com.

And they are no better, no sources, no quotes and according to them Falcao is disgusted by Van gaal.

A bit strange how Bilbao demanded that interested clubs paid the release clause's of Javi Martinez and Ander Herrera yet are apparently willing to accept a lower fee for Laporte despite the fact he is highly rated.

@jojojo and @Vato is fichajes.net considered reliable?

Even fichajes.net isn't saying, "a final agreement is expected shortly," unlike Metro. Just that we're making an offer, that player/agent like the idea, but that Athletic may be unwilling to do anything without the release clause fee.

It's hard to find original source/corroborating sources on these stories at the moment with google news search basically useless, but the usual big sites aren't reporting it.

What's his release fee?

Insert England for France, and that's what they said about Jones and Smalling.

Except that Varane has already showed more than Jones and Smalling.

Here in France, we’re talking a lot about Laporte. In fact he left France at 15 or 16 and made huge progress at Bilbao, but we’re unsure about his true potential. Media in France are suggesting that Sakho, Mangala or Koscielny will partner Varane in the French defense.

Other thing, I can’t see us buying him, when we have Rojo. Not in term of talent cause I’m not a Rojo fan at all, but I mean a left footed center back able to play in 3-5-2 or not.

And forget about Muller and Pogba etc…. We’re not good enough to attract them. Pogba will leave for either Paris or Madrid (We should take Modric then)

Ya the fact that they don't mention a source casts a lot of doubt on the reliability of the story.

Ya generally when it comes to Athletic it is a case of either pay the release clause or do one. I was surprised when the Metro suggested they were willing to sell for less than that. I did read recently that Laporte was a boyhood United fan so maybe there might be some truth in the fact he is keen on the move.

To be fair Jones and Smalling were never as promising as these two. Smalling was nearly 21 when he joined us and had only made a handful of appearances for Fulham by then. Jones to be fair did look a great prospect but injuries have really hindered him. Varane and Laporte have been playing for a great and good La Liga team respectively since the age of 18. Varane has always been a greater prospect than Jones and Smalling and IMO Laporte is too.

Another one of Brendan's golden signings doesn't quite make it at Liverpool.

The great unknown in these stories though is what exactly does the player's contract say. We know Athletic announced a new contract for him and a bump in the release clause to €42m. What we don't know is if there are any fancy (Thiago-like) subclauses that talk about European football etc.

Athletic were 4th last year and had a CL place when he renewed. They're 13th now and 12 points behind a Europa League place.

Ya considering how their season has gone it has probably increased the chances of Laporte looking to move. Barca's transfer ban has helped us too as I think they have been linked with him in the past. TBH €35 million (£27,000,000) million is a pretty fair price for a top defensive prospect like Laporte (bare in mind top CB's seem to be in short supply these days) so even if there aren't any Thiago-like clauses in his contract I would just pay his release clause. We all know if we want him that's what we will have to do anyway.

People baulking at that amount should remember that we have just paid around that for a LB who did not play in a team who qualified for the CL and at least Laporte now has some experience of playing in it. Luke still hasn't got that due to circumstances beyond his control.

Exactly. Even for a defender £30 million isn't that much these days. This is especially the case when they are young and have the possibility of providing 10+ years service.

Tweet not showing for me. What does it say?

Please no more playing with wing backs much please.

Get sm1 who can fill in at both full back positions to decent level. Darmian maybe ?

"Kevin Strootman could arrive this transfer window but #MUFC face a battle to get Mats Hummels away from Dortmund," says @BenSmithBBC
