Too easy to say, didn't really see the clamour for his signing on here when he was stuck on Spurs bench indefinitley in his first few years there and being touted for a transfer for mere buttons to much, much lesser clubs...
A better one to feel aggrieved over would be someone like Hazard, dicking around over a few mill in agents fees, then having to stump up £59mill on Di Maria later...

Giving into an agent asking for a ridiculous amount sets a dangerous precedent though.

FFS if Fergie hadnt have farted around when Bale was at Soton he would be our top player by now. I love Fergie but jesus he missed out on a lot of great players
Due to his longevity in the game and how high profile he was, ofcourse he's going to have a longer list than pretty much any other manager and it should be easier to spot them.

I think Hazard was the biggest loss in recent years (after Ronaldinho)... we lost him over a £6M pay off to his agent.

Yep Fergie also should have signed Messi, Zidane, Kaka and Iniesta when they were all 9.

wdf you can't sign every player. Although Hazzard and Pogba were clear feck ups but it seems the club have learned from those mistake so hopefully they won't be repeated again ever.

Yes, true.
It just feels club policies of set wages or agent fees and the like eventually become eroded in the longterm, in every clubs gradual acceptance to the way football is progressing.
Edit by that I mean, those clubs who swallow those morals and set new precedents often are the ones whom end up profiting.

Why the feck would a released Barcelona goalkeeper have anything to do with a Real Madrid winger coming to United.
Good grief
Presumably it involves De Gea going the other way. That being said, he's an eejit, it's a shit tweet and swap deals seldom happen. Other than that it's definitely on.

How is this guy even employed?

MEN are the biggest transfer muppets going.
This Bale thing is classic journo-muppetry. I just can't get my head around the idea of Madrid selling a player who they very recently paid a world record sum for. Also think of the players you could buy for the cost of one Bale.

DDG isn't going anywhere.
You think we're after Bale?

We were definitely after Bale when Moyes was in charge. There must be some lingering interest in him even with the change in manager.

Sorry I was just relaying what presumably his tweet was about. I'm getting a bit worried about De Gea's situation and I'm still not convinced Valdes would settle for being 2nd choice for too long given he's only 32 and was one of the world's best keepers before his injury. I'd imagine we are interested in Bale, he's a fantastic player, but I'd be massively surprised if we signed him.

Lads it was down to a bit more than just agents fees, he wanted £170k per week Chelsea were the only club willing to pay it.

We might have went for it these days but theres no chance under Ferguson & Gill we were giving a 21 year old that kind of salary between that and the agents fees is why we missed out on him.

Yeah I'm with you on that one. I think DDG will stay though, he will sign a new contract. Not that a new contract means feck all these days.
Bale would be a fantastic signing, I said this summer 2013, he makes for us as in pace, strength, shot etc. don't think we'll be signing him anytime soon though.

Whatever he wanted he should have got...with the same gusto that barca went after neymar....if you want the best young talent, you have to pay for it. He would have been perfect for us.

Ps: I'm not saying we should have paid his dad £40m or whatever neymars dad got, but the salary should have been an issue.

I think Southampton screwed us over in some way on that one. I think SAF said we asked to be kept informed about the situation with Bale when they rejected our initial bid and then they sold him behind our backs to Spurs without informing us. Sounds a bit far fetched but I remember him saying something along those lines.

If Levy is involved, I can imagine a lot of things being done that regular clubs won't do.

I very much doubt it's on the cards in the slightest, but I'd rather keep de Gea and not sign Bale than to do any sort of a swap deal. Unless de Gea all of a sudden becomes desperate to leave. Has he commented on any speculation in the last month? Nah..he'll be a legend here

I don't think so, but I stand corrected if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure Ronaldo didn't want him to leave.
I wasn't 100% sure either it was a drawn out saga with PSG. But anyways they are quick to sell attacking players. With new attacking talent. I'm suprised they haven't gone for Hazard yet. But with Varane I don't see them letting him go so easy.

No it doesn't. In the case of Hazard, you knew you were dealing with a future world class player(maybe even world class at the time). If you're buying a world class player, you pay world class money. That includes big wages and big agent fees.

It doesn't set a precedent unless you plan on signing players of that caliber all the time...and if you do? Then the big money for big players rule comes in again.

As much as I am a fan of Hummels and rate him up with the best he isn't worth £35 million at the moment, himself and the entire club are having an off season which has to bring down the price. 30 million euro should do it.

Knowing Dortmund, we will offer them £35 million and they will reject it so they can hold on to him until the summer. That's when he puts in a transfer request due to no CL next season and then Bayern snaps him up for €20 million.

I'm beginning to think that we really are after Hummels.

@Asger @Mainoldo I had to ask i've seen people in here propose +40m for him.
