This 35m figure is being quite widely reported now. Either there's something in it or all the journos are copying one another. Probably the latter, but after our summer spending I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's true.

£35m sounds like hummels summer price, I would have thought in January a player of his caliber should go for at least £40m.

Not one reputable journalist at a quality newspaper has reported it. We don't confirm our bids to anyone, not least David McDonnell at the Mirror. Woodward tends to plant seeds via the chief sports reporters from the broadsheets.

When somebody like Martin Samuel or Daniel Taylor begin to discuss a player like Hummels within their content then it's time to take notice. Until then...

And how would he know?
It's the Twitter Transfer thread … not the 100% Happened Transfer Facts thread.
As is said above this figure is being widely reported now all over the place and I'd be more than happy it if it's accepted.
As I would be equally happy with the other rumours currently picking up a head of steam:

£20m to open talks with Verane is being considered
£140m pw deal for DdG imminent
Paul Pogba swap to PSG not us phew!

I'd say pay DDG what he wants, but that does seem a tad saucy.

:D

If Falcao is worth what he's paid for scoring 3 goals what is DdG worth for being a 5 man defence for the first half of this season and saving about that many each match? Pay it and move on Louis!
He's worth loads true, but one hundred and forty million a week, I doubt.

He could buy his own Man Utd soon enough!

I think this Dortmund team is likely heading for a rebuild, its spines already been gutted. they wont be in the champions league next year, with 0 chance for a title. I'm not sure they would sell in january with them being in a relegation scrap, but if they think the price they get now will be far more than they could command in the summer they could cash in, get a cheaper replacement, I highly doubt they will get relegated anyway.

probably going to lose Reus as well as gundogan in the summer if they want to cut there losses with his injury problems. Big changes coming to dortmund and something else to note, theres a possibility a lot of these players have clauses in their contract regarding not making the champions league/bottom half of the table/relegation.

The leak wouldn't necessarily have come from our end... You're probably right though.

Good price for him in the position we are now with our defenders. We signed Rio for £30 million (which would be much more today) in 2003. When you need a quality defender, you pay the money. Hope this is true. I'd happily wait until the summer, though. I just want him.

pay the fecking money and get Hummels or Godin in. I know Hummels is struggling and all that, but van Gaal still wants him and he could easily recover with a new environment, team and challenge.

Agreed. I think a lot of those lot at Dortmund need a new challenge.

I doubt any of it will be down to whether we are willing to pay the money or not. More down to whether the clubs and players will want to do business in January. Godin I would say is impossible and Hummels I would say unlikely

While we are at it, lets get Gundogan for the £16M BVB are asking for him...that is a steal of a deal.

Well we were positive he was the top target in the summer, LVG and woodward mentioned they would only sign players in january they had on their targets for next summer, so it would make perfect sense to assume we would make an attempt at him in january.

I reckon we'll see the same outcome as we did with Shaw. Dortmund now willing enough to let go in Jan but will probably accept in the summer.

I'm starting to get a gut feeling that we might sign Hummels this window.

I think Dortmund might be happy to accept a higher bid before clauses kick in and their hand is forced when they fail to qualify for Europe.

Can he speak Spanish?

Is this a release clause you speak of?

Handsome? Check.

Can play midfield? Check.

Whatever he wanted he should have got...with the same gusto that barca went after neymar....if you want the best young talent, you have to pay for it. He would have been perfect for us.

Ps: I'm not saying we should have paid his dad £40m or whatever neymars dad got, but the salary should have been an issue.

I agree he would have been great here but the reality of it is under Ferguson and Gill we were never giving that kind of money to a player so young. Same reason we lost out on Luca Moura to PSG.

The landscape might have changes slightly now with FFP, Woodward and the new kit deal but 3 years ago we were still playing second fiddle to the financially doped clubs when it came to aquiring players.
