I would take Bale over Reus any day of the week - but not if the difference in price is €100 million

Well it's around £120 million, which, if we did sign him I doubt would be the actual price. Plus, any deal we do will include bonuses and clauses with the initial payment being lower.

You say that as if the bonuses weren't part of the price, i don't think that we should pay more than what they paid, bonuses included.
Since i like Bale, i could live with us overpaying but that wouldn't be a good deal.

150M for Bale ? No thankssss

I rather buy Alves (free), Varane/Godin (30M), Hummels (40M), Strootman (30M) and Reus (40M)

Well if it's based on CL wins, goals scored, apps or whatever, over time as players prices rise anyway it will actually work out cheaper.

And this is why signing Bale for that sort of money would be very stupid!

Can you attract them though. Part of the reason you got Di Maria was because nobody else was willing to pay £60m.

Reus can move to more successful teams. Varane's already at one. Godin's playing for a manager he loves.

If (fingers crossed) we make UCL - sure. Barring last season's calamity, United remains one of the biggest 3 clubs in the world and right now with FFP, we seem to be one of the few clubs who can pay the highest wages as well.

edit: players are obviously motivated by different things, so there's no saying who or what money/prestige can get you, but the same goes for every signing.

But there in lies the answer. If United are finally loosening the purse strings then we are able to outbid all but a few elite teams. As Liverpool admitted in the last transfer window, a transfer kitty of 100 million is one thing, the wages and bonuses are another thing completely. Financially United appear to be in a strong position so can probably offer top prices to selling teams and great wgaes to players. FFP is also less of an issue on United so like the Di Maria situation we might be the only team willing to meet fee and wage demands.

1- The main reason any club signs any play is because they were/are the ones willing to pay the highest fee. I'll say 95% of times, this is the case.
2- Well, if you're talking about successful clubs, Manchester United is right up there despite that one poor season you lot keep holding on to.
3- United remain an attractive team for any player and they have the money to back it up.

Just because we had one poor season doesn't mean we aren't any more successful or attractive. The main reason we missed out on players in the past was the unwillingness of Ferguson/Gill to go that extra mile in terms of the money. With Woodward, he's ready to do what Gill would never do.

Come next season we will be competing for everything. I don't think attracting players will be a problem.

Sport is a rubbish newspaper and they were probably referencing a crap British paper like express. Nothing to see here

Did anyone see Bale last night??

Real were awful in attack until Ronny came on.

On another note:

Varane did make a screw up at one point but the speed with which he dealt with it absolutely sealed the deal in my mind THIS is the player we should be going for now (with Vlaar as a stopgap) and add Hummels in the summer

Godin was the stand out player last night. He is an absolute monster and very much like Vidic in his prime.

Varane would be the dream signing for us. I would love to get Bale, but I don't see that happen anytime soon.

TBF, Jones has the ability to do that as well. He fecked up a few games ago but then recovered quickly to get the tackle in. Think it was against Liverpool, actually. He definitely has the ability, he just needs to stay injury free and consistent.

Sorry buddy but I just don't agree. Varane is much better technically, Better in the air and has more intelligence in reading the game. Jones will never get to that level.

Varane and Hummels. Excellent defensively, pace and passing complementing each other

PSG and City were willing to pay the money, but couldn't afford it.

If we make the CL, why wouldn't we be able to bring these players if we pay enough. It's not like players go to Madrid for less money.

You at work? Twitter might be blocked if so.

I had some problems with some chrome extensions. Disable one by one and refresh the page with twitter links. So you can find out which one is causing the problem.
Yeah i did decide to do that and it was my disconnect extension that was causing the trouble.

Of course Varane is better technically; they're completely different in their styles of play. I consider Jones more of a 'destroyer' in defence, a Roy Keane playing defender. Varane's more like Rio in his prime.

My original point was that Jones isn't the bad defender everyone makes him out to be.

Been some chatter about Liverpool going after Pjanic. I doubt they could afford him though, and he's frankly better than their level. Top player.

Why would Madrid let Varane go? And why would Varane want to leave them? Don't really see him as a realistic target.

Varane and Gimenez are outstanding, but they are at clubs who will not let them go unless its on their own terms. For both players, that'll be years of service for their current club before letting them go when they dont need them anymore. In the short term they seem extremely unrealistic

Just so we don't go an entire page without a tweet...

They've allowed better players to leave in the past, they always get bored and go after a new shiny target.

He's a fool.
How can you say this with any confidence at all? He and his father have spent months visiting clubs and taken their time before making this decision. Real might not bring many of their youths into their first team, but generally the talented ones who don't make it there end up having solid careers elsewhere (Eto'o, Mata, etc).
