Fair point but right now Reus is the only attacker I can see with that price potential and he has a set buyout clause. I guess someone might go big for Pogba.

I think we can, if we lose out it wont be due to fees or wages from now on IMO.

I think as it stands he will only have 12 months on his contract come next summer. He will probably end up signing an extension but if he doesn't I can't imagine him going for any more than £30 million. Even Kroos only went for £24 million when he had a year left on his contract this summer.

Transfer news that comes out straight after the transfer window closes is usually nonsense that's long forgotten by the time the next window comes around. Mata could end up being pivotal to the team once the team settles.

That being said the fact we have some top class players who aren't cup tied for the CL, we could get some interesting offers for a number of players in January.

It seems odd to say "a Luis Suarez a year" if that quote is from a United source.

Why would you not say "a Di Maria a year" or "a Robin Van Persie a year"?

Because it's a bullshit article and headline to try and get United fans excited whilst having a subtle dig. '20 Lambert's a year' would be similar.

Probably because he was the most expensive signing this summer. I do agree considering his history with the club that it was a strange example to use though.

It's actually not a bullshit article though. The phrase is explained in the first paragraph itself :

When United signed their hugely lucrative new kit deal with Adidas in July it was said to have given them the potential to sign “a Suárez every year”.

It's just an expression that United can sign that caliber of a player every season and Suarez was the biggest transfer of the off-season despite the negativity surrounding him. Also it was coined in July so that rules Di Maria out. And Robin while a major transfer cost relatively little when compared to James or Suarez or Di Maria. Additionally it could be akin rubbing salt in Liverpool's wounds by basically saying : We can buy every Tier 2 club's top player (including yours) for £60-70 million in each of the next 10 seasons.

It's from an article by some business expert I think. He used the analogy because Suarez went for big money.

United, Arsenal and City are the three English clubs is respect most. I know many despise City, but I like Pellegrini and they play football I like to watch. Arsenal under Wenegr play the type of football I like and if van Gaal gets it right at Unietd he'll have United playing great football. And while I respect Liverpool, they do rub me up the wrong way.

Fair dinkim ya mongrel :)

I think the Suarez a year comes from the fact we'll get £75m a year from adidas, and Suarez went for £75m.

He didn't go for £75m.
I think the £75m is the price that it potentially rises to with add-ons and all, no?

Either way, the British press retired he went for £75m, and as far as I can see they're the one reporting this 'Suarez a year' stuff.

It was £65m straight up, no add ons.

I think the business done this summer was a real sign of intent and put us back on the map regarding transfers.

Exactly, we laid down a marker and we'll build from there, I see us going back to a more measured approach once LvG gets his man Strootman in. Then if a particularly special talent pops up down the line we have shown we can compete for anyone.

I didn't know that about his contract, looks like there could be a real scramble to get him and Reus for decent prices next summer.

What else would they expect Dave to say? He was hardly going to say "Casillas is way past it, I wipe my ball sweat with his jersey and I am the new #1, Ariba!".......No.
I think you can have post of the day for that one

I'd love us to win something this season just to rub it in the faces of these "experts"

So the "experts" move from "we are not good enough" to 3-5-2 won't work or it will take time. Sounds like it they know that we have a fantastic squad now and just waiting for it to click. They are all fecking panicking now.

We should heed souness' warnings. He knows all about taking a successful team into the footballing wilderness.

To be fair out of all the Liverpool pundits on tv he is the most unbiased and knowledgeable IMHO.

I'd agree with that alright man. You want to see him on RTE - its great craic. Him & Dunphy always go at it, but he can say what he likes on there & gets it back in equal measure. Check out the youtube vids.

Seems to have a fair amount of respect for United too, but maybe alot of that was because of Fergie. Still though, doesnt seem like an ABU like that twat Tommo.

If memory serves, he's already come out with that same statement before tough - a month or so ago? So many have said that, i've lost count to be honest.

United arent gonna do a Liverpool 1st & foremost & we're making sure we dont fall into the trap of being over-confident & deluded either - hence the signings & the shippin out of players too. We're re-building & its well under way.

Pool should have bought Falcao to replace Suarez; yet all they've done is do what Rafa did - quantity over quality. Still some good signings though. Bollocktelli is no Suarez though & thats what made Pool pretty shit-hot last season. They should just have got him for the season if they had the chance, like whats been reported.

Anyway, its their loss & our gain - same as City & Real's

It's not plausible to flog him off for half what we paid. Or where he's criminally undervalued in a swap deal with Vidal, especially considering Vidal's age, injury issues and future value compared to Mata's.

I think it might be. If he is surplus to requirements, it will be evident to the other clubs. Given Woodward's poor history of selling players, I can definitely see a scenario where we are desperate to sell and get only £20M for Mata.

I hope that isn't the case, and we find a way to get the best out of Mata.

The fact is only 2 of our new signings have played this season and they have about 120 minutes between them. Right now you can expect all 6 of them to be starters, so I think we should be holding back on predictions until we see how they set off.
