I didn't necessarily say it was the truth, just that it was a good argument. I think it's quite fair to say that both have been pretty poor for a while, particularly Van Persie. They're both excellent footballers but Van Persie's all round contribution seems to deteriorate with every game and Rooney seems to have lost all his pace and ability to play on the counter. I reckon Falcao hitting the ground running could bring a lot out of both of them.

What?

Why they expanding Bernabeu when they barely have 70% of attendance outside obvious top matches against Atletico or Barcelona?

Donno. It's not just the expansion but a comprehensive facelift : they're remodelling updating the exterior with night-lighting, renovating some director boxes, building a complex right next to the stadium and adding a roof apparently. Looks pretty cool :

Strootman is a better version of Carrick, great passer a and sits deep. Herrera should be running all around the midfield and getting forward with the attacks, that's what Gundogan used to do for Dortmund.
He's much more of a box to box player at Roma, with Pjanic sitting deep. I think that's his role long term because of his power and presence. Decent left boot on him too.

Granted Herrera and Gundogan are a bit more mobile and less physical though.

This, Thiago and Vermaelen are 3 transfers I'm glad we didn't complete. All 3 are crocked right now and it doesn't look to get any better for any of them.
I wasn't aware that those players would never play again.

It was confirmed we offered Dortmund big money for him earlier in the window and they refused. With the money we seem to be happy to pay out on wages these days and the superstar squad we have already assembled it's not difficult to imagine us attracting him next summer even with the other big suitors in for him. I just wonder whether we went for Di Maria as an "Or" option for him this year.

I assume you are talking about the comment from Athletico Madrid's CEO? That is hardly confirmation. Confirmation would have been if Dortmund had announced that they had received and rejected our offer. Also he said that Reus turned us down, not Dortmund. If he is telling the truth (which I doubt he is) then Dortmund must have accepted our offer.

Put wheels on the back of that Real stadium and it will pretty much be a robotic lawn mover. Will be called the Bosch stadium from now on.

We go again.

I think it's inevitable that we will try for Strootman but there's nothing much in that article related to us going for Reus, just the basic fact he has a buyout clause. We need to give up on Hummels and keep an eye on Varane's contract situation at Real.

I know this dried up a while ago but if he gets his form and fitness back could anyone see us trying for Gundogan if Strootman fails?

Gundgoan and Vidal were my muppet choices to be our new Scholes and Keane, but if Gundogan has signed a new deal I guess that wont be happening along with Vidal's knee ruling him out.

Gundogan's contract is only a year deal.

Oh they will play again but they'll be consistently on the treatment table for their careers, which might be good if you have Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Martinez, Pogba, Pirlo, Marchisio as the other options but not when your next options are Anderson and Fellaini.

Have I missed something here?

Pjanic is their main creative and attacking force pretty much, De Rossi is the holding midfielder with strootman or nainggolan being the box to box player. Strootman I feel like is more of a controlled player then other box to box mids, as in he doesn't charge all around the pitch but rather gets forward and back but is good positionally.

He most definitely does get around the pitch, he's an absolute live wire. I'm pretty sure van Gaal referred to him as 'all action' too. He isn't one for holding, though I do think he's capable of it. Even in his last season at PSV he was beside van Bommel who sat deep. A midfield three of him, Blind and Herrera would be awesome.

He does but I mean like he's not a box to box to the same extent as Vidal who will be everywhere all the time. Strootman is probably a bit more reserved then him going forward though that could be because he doesn't have as much license to get forward and score goals as Vidal does in Juve as he has pjanic next to him in Roma.

El loco Bielsa strikes again

No transfer news but quite interesting, always had the feeling RVN was more productive than Henry.

In the Champions League, Ruud is 0.77 goal ratio with Messi just ahead of him at 0.78.

Those are always a tad misleading imo. How many games did Henry play as a winger?
Ronaldo spent a years as an out and out winger. In 06/07 he moved further forward after RvN left. How many games did he play in a midfield 4? Same with Messi to an extent, but he moved centrally much earlier in his career, after Eto'o left.

Very impressive, but I bet you that his number is going to drop a bit after a few years when he is closer to retirement. If you got someone like Raul when he was 26 or RVN just after he left Untied they would probably be a fair bit higher.

Those also include international appearances for some of them, not sure if it is for all of them. Probably isn't entirely true. Anyways, those is just a select group of players, Rooney has a 0.45 ratio so he would be in that.
