Tosic - Gone. To CSKA

Seriously - one player that never gets a chance at United (and I really really wanted him to) and that means other youngsters will take a look at this say, oh no United treat their young players like crap.

Da Silvas, Evans have made the squad recently. Macheda played at 17 and would have played more were it not for his injuries. Obertan came in, impressed enough to get a chance immediately.

Anderson and Nani were younger and got first team play.

Other than Le Arse, we seem to be the only other top teams that give real youngsters a chance and that includes Shitty, Spurs and Villa.

Tosic will hardly be an example of the norm at United. What it will serve is that getting signed isn't enough, you need to put a shit load of work in and even that might not be enough to make it at this club with such high standards.

It's not clear from your post: are you suggesting that only Arsenal and Man. Utd (from the teams that you list) give real youngsters a chance?

Good luck to him, when he didn't get any Carling Cup starts and then was shipped out on loan I had a feeling he wouldn't be coming back.

Might also help if we buy players ready for the stage. I have no problem with investing in youngster that can be groomed through the academy and brought up the United way however i do have a problem with buying players that aren't United quality with the hope that they blossom into United quality because they have certain good aspects in their game. Real tried it in the late 90's and it never worked, they again there philisophis rarely do.

Shame on the people that are playing down his abilities as a player! On one side we say that he was not given enough chances and on the other you play down his abilities..

Serbian winger Zoran Tosic has taken a swipe at Man United by claiming he wasn't given a fair chance at the club.

The 23-year-old completed a £8million move to CSKA Moscow on Wednesday after making just five appearances for the Red Devils in 18 months - but not before firing a parting shot to his former employers.

Tosic said: "I'm already 23 years old, but Manchester United did not give me a chance to prove himself.

"I'm an athlete, I have ambitions and I want to present them on the football field, not on a bench.

"How do I become a player by *spending two years on the bench? They could have considered loaning me, but Manchester United wanted to sell - and sell they did."

Tosic, who is set to line up for Serbia against Germany in the World Cup on Friday, follows Ben Foster out of the exit door while the likes of Gabriel Obertan, Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley have all been linked with moves away from Old Trafford.

Can't say i disagree with him.Very strange signing.

Because it's really hard for a player to emerge from the reserve team to the senior squad.Of course United will be a stepping stone for most of them to play for other clubs but for those who wanna succeed here, it will be difficult.

Of course it is hard to make it in to one of the best teams in the world!

But if you are very good, you will get a chance.

Evans, Rafael, Fabio, Gibson, Welbeck, Macheda...that's 6 youngsters who have made it into the first team squad in the last two seasons.

I think that's a good point. It's not like we're not promoting from within. There were just other players who got chances that Tosic didn't.

But I've never been a believer that everyone deserves a chance, whether they signed for relatively big money or not. If SAF looked at him and said 'He's not ready' and Tosic wasn't able to change his mind in the time he was here, then he didn't deserve a chance. It's that simple, IMO. Anything else would be putting one player above the club, and he won't do that.

Tosic just wasnt good enough yet it was so bleeding obvious and thats why he didnt get a chance, but I got called a 'spastic' for saying this a few months ago  Give me one good reason as to why he didnt? Did he feck Fergie's wife? Is Ferguson xenophobic? No, it all points to one reason and thats the ability (or lack of) of the player.

EDIT - Dioufs next.

I think the difference in Tosic's case is that he was brought in for a decent sum of money, not given an opportunity, loaned out and performed well in the top tier of German football and then sold.

I said myself in January that i suspected fergie just didnt rate him, hence him not being given a chance, it's just the whole circs are a bit iffy imo.

Give me some names.

Fergie can make mistakes you know. He overestimated Tosic's ability.

As I said above, 6 youngsters have made it into the first team squad in the last two seasons.

Evans, Rafael, Fabio, Gibson, Welbeck, Macheda.

So you think he should have played ahead of Evans at centre back, Raf and Fab at wingback, Gibson in centre mid or Welback and Macheda up front?

Thats a bit daft isn't it?

Hmmmm i dunno. I don't recall him ever spending that sort of money then not playing them before finally selling them. I can't think of 1 other player he's done that with. It just seems a bit odd to me.

Welbeck was played out on the wing a few times last season instead of Tosic.

Hang on, you've just assumed we're referring to players who got chances at Tosic's expense rather than simply young players who've been brought through?

But we spent £30m on Veron and sold him for half of that 2 years later. Many said he sold him too early. Just because he cost about a few millions of pounds, it doesnt make Tosic immune to being sold, if he's not good enough, or in Veron's case, not fitting into the system. Maybe not the best example, but you can see what I mean right?

I can see exactly what you mean. I'm not really disagreeing with you. I'm just saying the whole thing has been a bit iffy. From start to finish.

What's iffy about it?

United bought a player that turned out not to be very good in Sir Alex' opinion, and then sold him on.

It's nothing i can put my finger on cnut. Look, i'm not one of these that buys into wild conspiracy theories etc etc but the Tosic deal seems a bit wierd to me. He wasn't cheap and he was barely given a kick. It just seems a bit wierd, especially as he's done well in Germany.

Bundesliga is not as high standard as that of the Premiership, and he probably found his level there.

TOSIC: In action for Serbia
By Adam Marshall, 17/07/2010

ZORAN TOSIC admits he is frustrated at not being given a chance to prove himself at Manchester United.
The Serbia winger, 23, has refused to criticise Sir Alex Ferguson even though his dream £7million move from Partizan Belgrade turned into a nightmare.

After making only two first-team appearances at Old Trafford, he was able to impress during a loan stint at Cologne before being offloaded to CSKA Moscow this summer.

"I know some people were surprised to learn of my decision to move to CSKA," he said.

"I spent a year in England but didn't really get any opportunities to show what I could do.

"I can say I fell in love with Manchester United in 1999 after the famous Champions League final with Bayern Munich.

"Honestly, I did not wish I could ever play for a club of my childhood dreams. We must be realistic - at clubs like Manchester United you are only ever given one chance.

"However, I largely did not get given any.

"When, exactly ten years after that memorable final, I was a Manchester United player, I thought it is fate.

"But it was far more prosaic.

"What went wrong? I do not know. I do not want to discuss Alex Ferguson's decision."

Tosic is convinced he is a better player despite the unhappy experience and learned much from the stars at United.

"Most of all, I was struck by Cristiano Ronaldo," he declared. "We were team-mates for six months before he left for Real Madrid.

"He is not a man, he is a machine.

"In football terms, I'm much stronger now. Exactly 50 percent.

"I was able to prove that my time there was not in vain at Cologne.

"I went to Cologne and played great and they knew about it in England too. Many fans of United still wonder about my sale."

Sold Trafford

-------------Foster

Eckersley Pique Shawcross Simpson

Tosic ---Eagles--Richardson Martin

---------Campbell Rossi

Eventually this team of non-established players that we sold may end up looking like quite a good team of players. I'm thinking 3 or 4 seasons and a number of them are going to be in demand. And then there's Martin...
