Tosic - Gone. To CSKA

Not bad. 5 appearances, 4 goals. How many assists he had so far?
Good little player, but SAF has other ideas(Cleverley?) and he doesn't fit in into that.

Said we should of kept him, pissed we didn't. But good on him for finding form again and plying his trade. We'll see him back in the big leagues at some point.

Yeh the team is shit, but nice skills nonetheless.

He is fast growing into one of our most dangerous players for the NT - if not the most right now. He was pretty good vs Australia, the aussie members on the board can confirm that.

The whole Ljajic-Tosic thing is weird, would love to know what exactly went on here, as there seems so much more to it

I would've kept Tosic and Ljajic instead of Obertan and Bebe but that's just me.

Shit cross only joking

I don't think people are following cska to update him it'd probably be a kick in the bollocks if we did. It's strange but maybe there's a part that's missing that we're not aware of. I still believe his translator had something to do with it. Clearly he's a talent but no point dwelling about it or the other lad for that matter

I've been watching a few of his games and heard the CSKA manager praising his endurance in glowing terms, which probably goes to show how much he worked physically during his time at Carrington. Maybe he didn't have the level to be a regular at United but he definitely had what it takes to deserve a couple of games with the first team - something he wasn't offered

Who knows how he would have developed in that case.

Tim Cahill gave Tosic the MOTM accolade on his twitter account

It came down to that word 'value' in the end. Obertan and Bebe were a lot cheaper than Tosic and Ljajic.

Nobody really knows the answer. I liked Tosic as a player but I don't think even if he stayed he would have had a significant impact on the first team. The disappointment was the lack of first team opportunities, but good to see him doing well.

While Smalling and Hernandez were more expensive.

Value is defined by cost and quality.

Smalling being English certainly adds more to his price tag, and how much was Hernandez signed for? I think in total it was pretty close to what Tosic and Ljajic would have been.

That is true, but Tosic and Ljajic have more quality than Bebe and Obertan.

In any case you're right, there is no need to dwell about him. I just posted this as anyone else does with any nice bit of skill.

Check this free kick out btw.

The Bebe signing is a mystery wrapped in an enigma but, if anything, it makes it less likely that we bailed on the Ljajic deal for financial reasons. I'm still slightly disappointed about not signing Ljajic but our recent spending makes me think that maybe there is something to the official explanation that we still had some doubts about him.

Obertan cost peanuts, so it's unfair to compare him with players that would have cost us a hell of a lot more money to sign.

As for Tosic, I genuinely never saw him as being United quality in any of the reserve games I watched him in. It's strange he didn't get any first team games but it's not as though Bebe and Obertan were getting games ahead of him. He was just unlucky to be at the club when there were less opportunities for wide players to get a game. He would have probably played a fair bit last season.

You make a good point in terms of his development at Carrington. He improved a lot physically, and it was pretty obvious to see from a Serbian perspective that he was a better player. I maintain that he would have done no worse than any of the other squad rotation members had he been given a shot at the time.

 Such a prestigious award.

I'm guessing here but I assume that a combination of two things happened in Tosic's case.

1) United felt he needed to get a lot stronger before he would be much use in the premier league

2) Tosic wanted to play first team games rather than wait around in the reserves. Having gone out on loan, he then wanted to leave rather than come back to United to fight for playing time.

In the case of Ljajic, I think United felt that Cleverley was very similar to Ljajic and that both were players who would typically be used wide, or as part of a 3 man midfield, rather than centrally, at least for the next few seasons. Again the physical aspect is important to understanding our reluctance to go ahead with the deal. It's not something that is necessarily that apparent until you see players up close against the appropriate standard of opposition. The initial deal was done on the assumption that Ljajic was miles better than Cleverley.

We need to wait for an update on Fergie autobiography before we'll learn anything about that case. I'm just disappointed we never gave him a chance. That season we needed a left winger (Giggs was way off form) and someone who was accurate on the deadball to balance Ronaldo's power at all cost. And any time he did come on, he did well. And he did well in the reserves.

that's not what i'm referring too ;) When he signed for United, he had the interpretor with the voice that sounded ..well throaty :)

I never got back to this.

1) Agreed, he definitely was lightweight, and whilst he still is not bulky like Valencia he has got stronger and can handle a challenge.

2) He said he was happy with trying to make it into the squad, but that was prior to his loan to Koln. I think after you have a good season like he did at Koln, and if you were to be sent back to the reserves - it would not be good for your confidence.

It's possible, but Ljajic is the better player now, and the better prospect. I think the Ljajic deal came down to not willing to spend the money - That is not to say that the money wasn't there, as we are seeing with the summer transfer activity it clearly is.
