Television Top Gear

I'm assuming people from London must have been fuming for when they closed the roads.
They were all probably in bed at the time. When they drove past tower bridge, Big Ben read 5:15, and it certainly wasn't pm.

First episode aside, I've mostly enjoyed it. Harris and Reid are great, MLB is decent, and even Evans isn't that bad now that he's stopped shouting so much and just done actual presenting. The worst for me are actually Sabine and Eddie Jordan who deliver their auto-cue lines absolutely abymsally, which is unsurprising given they're not actually tv show presenters. They seem so utterly pointless to the show and every line they utter is pure cringe.

A shame the first episode was so torrid because I genuinely think it's quite good now.

This. They just don't belong on a tv show.

I think Harris bit on the Vulcan was awesome, which pretty much everything he's done over the last 5-6 years has been. The rest was a bit meh though for me, still hate the guest interviews with a passion.
Though Ried's comment about "electric power gives you no compromises" () might have been the worst moment in Top Gear history. I mean.. really? NO compromises? It's the most compromised major piece of technology to be introduced into the world of cars since pretty much ever.

BTW, disregarding the fact that he looks like a clean-ish hobo, does Evans only own one set of clothes?

I like Harris and Reid and Matt is good too. Sabine is good when she's being herself.

The studio stuff sounds far too scripted - and the guest bit is awful. Having to read out stuff about each other and then choosing your favourite car - who thought that would be funny?

The media reporting on this is quite wierd. After each show the Guardian has had low top gear viewership as a headline story. Each time disregarding any digital viewings and also completely ignoring the fact that it's clashed with the football every time.

They love a good in crisis story

that's a good point , putting it up against the EURO's was always a bad idea.

Chris Harris is definitely the saving grace. Le Blanc and Reid are ok but the whole thing is pretty awful really.

They love the chance to bash a show with the demography that Top Gear attracts.

What do you mean by this?

What do you mean by this?

A no compromise electric car should be able to do what a gas powered car can do, or more, and with the batteries of today it just can't.
It takes away that freedom to go anywhere you want anytime you want, basically one of the biggest arguments as to what makes the car as a concept so great.
Until an electric car can charge up in a couple of minutes and there are fast charging stations in just as many locations as there are gas stations today, it will always be incredibly compromised. The range is also very poor compared to a modern gas/diesel powered car.

Now for people who never drive long distances or don't mind waiting 40min (which is only possible at some places) to 7hours for their car to charge then it's alright I guess, but judging it by the standards as we've come to expect from a car it is hugely flawed.

It's like releasing a new phone that will shut down if you talk for longer than 5min and if you only want to wait 40min instead of 8 hours to talk for 5 more minutes you have to charge it in your parents bedroom.

The show is decent. They have a formula that worked for decades and had to do something really terrible for it not to be at least watchable.

I can't stand the awkward chat and conversations after a segment is finished, where they make it seem like they're just discussing the car rather then reading from a script which they are so clearly doing with awkward banter. Matt Le Blanc just seems like he's acting the whole time when infront of the camera. The actual tasks and stuff that they do are still entertaining but i just hate that scripted banter style. There's no chemistry between any of them, its never funny. Always doomed to fail really. You could never replace the genuine chemistry Clarkson, May and Hammond have.

Strangely I've gone full circle and just watch it for the car reviews now.

The Tesla has so many good points - insane / ludicrous mode! £90K did he say? Forget that!

Let's not forget what happens when those batteries go wrong...

This Chris Harris sounds like he's been studying Tiff Needell videos to learn how to present a car show. Still slightly less grating though.

This latest episode was t best one so far I think. Too bad they've top gear-ized Harris though, they should just leave him alone and let him do his thing.

This true?

Matt LeBlanc is 'planning to quit Top Gear if co-host Chris Evans does not go first'

Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...ning-to-quit-top-gear-if-co-host-chris-evans/

I'm inclined not to believe a source from The Sun but didn't they leak some previous issues that turned out possibly true particularly with Evans finding it difficult to drive and present, bullying, plus being sick. Seems like the media want it to fail as much as Evans himself.

Watching the last episode and I think I'd keep LeBlanc and get rid of Evans.

Hope so, I have no problems with LeBlanc but Evans clearly isn't made to host this tv-show. The sooner they get rid of him the better.

It's almost definitely bollocks.

Sorry this wont cut it for me,i never used "skip" while watching Top Gear until this season.

So the first series of the new look show is over, what's the general verdict?

Personally I thought it improved a lot once Harris and Reid became more involved and I would say that from episode four onwards it was a much better show to watch. It's biggest problem, the first episode was truly awful and the second wasn't much better. This was enough to turn off a large number of the regular viewers and I think it will be a major challenge to get those viewers back in its current format, if at all.

Pros: Harris and Reid were both great, their segments were the most entertaining to watch. Some decent reviews and a good selection of cars. Button in the McLaren was a perticuler highlight for me. The production and quality of the filming is still fantastic to watch.

Cons: Too many presenters to try and fit in, Jordan and to some extant Sabine feel like extras that don't really add much to the show. Still not keen on MLB or Evans, although I thought both improved a little towards the end. The star in a rally cross car is awkward, too long and not as exciting as it could be, also really dependable on who the stars are but then it was no different on the old show. The challenges are still a bit stupid and there's too much forced humour.

Overall, I think it improved after getting off to a terrible start. With a few tweaks I think it could still be a popular show to watch but it will all depend on what those changes are.

Yep, completely dropped the bomb with a truly awful first episode.

I think it got far better as it went along. Mostly enjoyable from episode 3 onwards. The studio parts were generally always awful though, there's just no real 'natural' interaction between the presenters. It's very forced.

That went well  as a massive Clarkson fan I doubt the new series could ever have won me over (I do like Matt though) but Evans is dreadful.

Maybe they can get Boris and Farage ... I would watch :wenger::D

Made a twat of himself defending the ratings in his meltdown rant, made a twat of himself on the show, just #chrisevansthings
