Television Top Gear

It just sends conflicting messages imo and brings up the incident in the new again which won't be what the BBC want.

I'm sure Jonathon Ross has been back on the BBC since he was sacked! Clarkson was already scheduled to go on HIGNFY before the incident but he actually pulled out (delayed) of his appearence because of it.

Producer:

Clarkson has appeared on the show before and as Wilson says, “I really like him. He’s a great booking…he comes from a different angle.”

The team had not yet thought about how they would handle references to Oisin Tymon’s injuries and Clarkson’s subsequent exit from Top Gear. “It’s difficult to surprise a host with an Odd One Out or anything like that as they know what’s coming from the script,” says Wilson, “but Paul [Merton] and Ian [Hislop] would have dealt with the ‘fracas’ in their own way.”

If Clarkson had taken part on 24 April, “the BBC were absolutely fine about it. There was a very tough line for them to tread [but] we made it clear to them we’d booked him before it all kicked off, it wasn’t like us sticking two fingers up.” They could see that just allowing it to happen is a sign of strength. Whenever the BBC has a story that puts itself in the news, like when Peter Fincham got unfairly kicked out of the BBC we did a lot about it. The BBC were aware enough to know they have to let it happen.”

On the plus side it gets people to tune in to what I beleive has been a declining show - hopefully Hislop and Merton are in form. And for Clarkson he gets to 'advertise' for his new show!

We're in the actual hell have they got a £4.5 million budget per episode from?

That's a tremendous amount of money for each episode.

fecks sake, they could buy the bloody cars they are testing for that sort of money.

It is a total cock up by the BBC, firing him on moral high ground, then letting him in on another show. They should have given him a warning and have him do a personal/public apology and get on with it.

Pretty much this, and maybe fined him his fees for 3 shows or something.

Anyone who still thinks the BBC are in anyway at fault for the way they dealt with Jeremy sodding Clarkson needs to be put on life ignore along with Gamergaters, everyone who voted UKIP at the last election, anyone who still buys The Daily Star and people who think the 2nd and 3rd Matrix films are actually really deep if only you get the references.

The whole episode was like some kind of bizarre, embarrassing national mid-life crisis. Like someone decided to take the very worst bits of several already very irritating things - fanboism, online campaigning and the "political correctness has gone maaad" frustrations of white middle england - and combine them into a perfect storm of idiocy. Let it fecking go.

I know this isn't the topic, but which side do you fall on in that debate?

Daily Express readers comments don't disappoint:

I can see this being one of the most downloaded programs when it come out, just out of interest who has Amazon Prime.
I do. They were doing a special price for a year's subscription last year, so I gave it a go. I use it a lot and find it decent value for money, however I probably would've stopped after the current year, but with this new show coming-up some time next year then that'll probably be enough to push me to renewing for another year.

According to The Sun the new presenters with Chris Evans will be Sabine Schmitz, David Coulthard and Chris Harris.

This is interesting as DC is alright, Sabine can drive and Chris Harris is excellent.

Sabine is cool, but Coulthard is a bit boring... Who the hell is Chris Harris?

I really like Chris Harris but he's not got the head for television nor the personality. He's far too rigid and fans despite the fact he is utterly brilliant at what he currently does, will struggle to like him.

Bit likes Moyes, too good an opportunity to turn down, but probably not the right move. Also Explains why he's stopped uploading videos on YouTube

Sabine looks like Michael Schumacher in a wig. I have a lot of strangely conflicted feelings about that.

Sabine can drive but she doesn't have the presenting skills. Coukthard and Evans bore me to tears. Never heard of Chris Harris but it's not a strong enough line up IMO.

I have been watching Chris Harris youtube channel for couple of years now, enjoyed watching them as his didn't feck around like the Topgear trio and he always got his hands on the supercars before Topgear would.

I watched Top Gear for the entertainment, i don't think that this line-up will provide the entertainment that the other trio can, even though it was bloody silly at times.

What does he just talk about cars? That's not gonna be very entertaining and will lose quite a lot of appeal to many people, including me.

Yep, agree. Most of the people watch it for entertainment.

TG hasn't been funny in years. It became far too scripted towards the end, to the point where it was neither particularly informative nor was it all that funny. At its peak it was hilarious though, where it wasn't so obviously scripted.

If you compare TG as it was in its last season, then there is no reason why the new Top Gear cannot trump that, even if it never reaches the heights of the old Top Gear.

I'll disagree with that, I think it has been quite funny the past few years as well as all the other years it has been on air. And even when it's not funny, I still think they come up with good ideas and the chemistry between the 3 really is pretty great.

i can't really judge how she comes across when she's talking english. She's been doing car shows in german over the last couple of years and compared to her competitors on that market, she's at least the one-eyed among the blind - she's witty, she's got a vocabulary above "wow", and most importantly she's authentic.
You guys really don't know what a luxury problem you have when complaining about TGs dropping quality. Sort of like discussing which Monty Python's season was the weakest when the rest of us have to make do with Benny Hill.

as some pundit wrote about a very godawful film of the Marx Brothers: "Its horrible, but the worst the could make would still be more worth watching than any other film"

Will just have to see. I don't even drive, and I would never miss Top Gear :D
