Television Top Gear

Matt LeBlanc was one of the worst 'star in the reasonably priced car' interviews. Can't see this going well.

The real problem is Chris Evans. Can't stand him.

Yeah. I didn't know Chris Harris, but after being turned onto him by folks here, I've fell in love. Him, Le Blanc, Sabine & Coulthard would be a good enough lineup for me.

Evans? Bah, no.

Chris Harris or Sabine would be great, doesn't seem likely now though.

I'll give this a go, but everything about this new Top Gear feels safe and watered down, I can see it becoming the next Fifth Gear.

Seems like an apt observation, can definitely see the show being more obnoxiously 'PC' now.

I still feel like the show has enough good behind the scenes people (writers etc) to put something good together. As a viewer I reckon we will end up winning now having two pretty good shows instead of one, I'd be surprised if Top Gear became simply unwatchable.

Yeah, I think it will be decent enough but not at the heights at once was, I also think the Amazon show could be a bit of a damp squib.

No chance of Coulthard doing it , not with him presenting C4's F1 coverage.

I thought Coulthard could've been the stig. As a presenter, I don't care for him at all. Just the other three then :p

Matt Le Blanc is so bland. The new Top Gear is going to be so shit.

I think the two new car shows are going to be at completely opposite ends of the spectrum. BBC Top Gear will be PC heavy, rather boring, safe and only do serious tests and reviews. Meanwhile Amazon Top Gear will be hovercraft episode x50 with how scripted and silly it'll be.

Neither will be too enjoyable, but purely due to the hosts the Amazon version will be better.

How's people just catching this? It was mentioned on telly here in the states last weekend.

I loved top gear, the earlier years but also the latter years even when it was clearly scripted. I still found it brilliant.

I think Chris Harris will be on it, so at least 1 proper heavyweight motoring journalist.

Used to have a GT3 4.0 as well, I wonder if he still has it, will be worth more than twice what he paid for it now.

Edit: sold it after 8 months of ownership, must be kicking himself now

There's talk of Eddie Jordan being announced as a presenter.

Former Formula One boss Eddie Jordan is expected to be named as one of the new Top Gear presenting team 'within days', according to reports.

Dublin-born Jordan, 67, founded racing team Jordan Grand Prix in 1990 - which he sold in 2005 - and has hosted the BBC's coverage of Formula One - he is also a close friend of host Chris Evans.

Meanwhile racing driver Sabine Schmitz and journalist Chris Harris are also expected to be announced as semi-regular presenters alongside other motoring personalities to make up a Top Gear "family" in a pyramid structure with Evans at the top.

They're both alright for F1 coverage, but Top Gear? Eh...
Obviously trying to cover the quirky James May character. Guess Matt le blanc will be the Hammond.

He said on his podcast this week to Phil Collins that the Morris Minor is a pure classic car. While that might be true for some people that isnt going to fly with Top Gear fans. For me this is enough of a reason to not let him do the show.

Any ideas when this and the Amazon series are starting? Surely they won't compete with each other?

They could put them at the same time, one can watch the Amazon version whenever they like and BBC has iPlayer to watch it on. I think maybe Untitled Amazon Motoring Show will come out in Q3 2016

The Minor was, is and always will be a pile of shite. The fact that it's old, and that fact alone, makes it a 'classic'.

And why would he be discussing it with Phil Collins?

"So Phil, enough about you let's talk about me"
Actually I'd like to-
"So I'm going to be on telly hosting a car show so I need to make everyone think I'm an expert on cars.
I'd like to leave no-
"I think Daewoos are underrated."

I HATE Chris Evans with a passion

Matt Leblanc has the personality of a potato and who the feck wants an American to host a typically British show

Sabine is a great driver and I wouldnt have minded her to join Jezza + co on their new show in some capacity I can't imagine her holding a lead role though.

Either way RIP top gear

Phil Collins was on his morning radio show. Its just a podcast I listen to. Talking some shite about being car enthusiasts and the Minor being a classic, they both have one or something.

Edit: phil collins was on about how he started off driving his drumkit around in the back of a car.

Top Gear starts in May, the Amazon one is set to start some time in the autumn I think, so the first series will be over before the other one starts.

It sounds like they are going to go back to something similar to the older style of Top Gear. Chris Evans as the main guy then a revolving door of other presenters, doing different segments or reviews.

Meh, could be alright.

I'm glad it's not Tiff Needell. Knows his stuff obviously but a well annoying voice that makes all his segments sound the same.

you mean like Saturday kitchen? Chris Evans in the James Martin role? "next up we go to Padstowe, to see what Rick Stein thinks of the new Kia Sportage" "Tune in next week, when Sonia from Eastenders tries to buy a low mileage car for under £5000"
