Television Top Gear

The Jaguar Low Drag Coupe is probably the most beautiful car I've ever seen. Anyone got a spare 800k lying around?

Nah the one they featured a couple of years ago was nicer, it was made by the exact same company though, they certainly know how to make an already classy car look even better. This one cost about £600k if I remeber so it's cheaper than the one featured last night.

Top gear without Clarkson just wouldn't happen I am afraid. Obviously depends what's happened, but Clarkson punching 1 of his "bosses" will probably be swept under the carpet in a while.

If he did get fired from BBC he would be on ITV in a months time with a new car show or something similar.

After all the shite this man as spouted ,it's an alleged argument with a crew member that as got him suspended.

I suspect there's the odd person on here who doesn't know how much Top Gear is scripted. It would survive on BBC with someone else quite easily.
How do you fancy Victoria Coren? That might be interesting.

Clarkson would restart on Sky or ITV, obviously.

I don't think it would at all, like it or not clarkson IS top gear without him viewing numbers would take a massive hit, they'd lose hundreds of thousands viewers weekly.

The only way I see the presenters changing is Clarkson getting sacked or the format getting stale (I just can't see that happening anytime soon with the wider audience). Remember that BBC Worldwide bought Clarkson's rights for the Top Gear brand. They get 100% of it's profits and it is rumoured to be one of their best for that - hence it isn't just a car show anymore it's an entertainment show that goes around the world.

:nervous:

Top Gear wouldn't be the same without Clarkson. I can only imagine he plays a big role in scripting it as well. Plus do you think the others will stick around without Clarkson? A big part of the fan base would move on especially if you add an unknown or Hammond takes more control.

He's too valuable to them to sack him.

It could be rubbish but there was a newspaper article and apparently they would have to pay him off (as BBC always pay out which there has been separate coverage for) which may include two contracts (one for appearances and the other for worldwide DVD sales etc.) with the figures being ridiculous.

They have already labelled it as a 'fracas' and it may not have been an offensive remark.

Clarkson was given what he called his "final warning" last May after claims he used a racist word while filming the popular BBC motoring show.

At the time, he said the BBC had told him he would be sacked if he made "one more offensive remark, anywhere, at any time".

That said if he's 'punched' another employee (who hasn't been suspended) he should be sacked - gross misconduct! He may even want out himself look at his recent tweets, he likes things his way and right now the BBC have complete control.

If they can Clarkson it might be the best move for the show long term, let Clarkson and his team go somewhere else and escape the crumbling mess of the BBC.

Right when they said the race between the Porsche 918, the LaFerrari and the McLaren would actually come to pass...

He punched Piers Morgan. Surely that buys him unlimited "Get out of jail free" cards.

The problem I feel with the show is that they are trying TOO hard to make it funny. Half the time if they left it alone, it might just be funny by itself without the need for scripted nonsense. Last week the Hammond rescue could have been really interesting but they toyed with it far too much that it became dull and predictable.

Yep, it's been like for some time really. I'd say the last time Top Gear was consistently good was around 5 years ago, there's been some decent individual episodes since but it's hit and miss.

Gutted. It's the show when me and my mates may feature on the track next to them

If he has punched a fellow employee of the BBC . then surly the only outcome can be him being sacked, if any of us had of done it, we would of been.
But do we really think he is that bothered, he knows that he will get a another TV job almost straightaway.

This is the sort of publicity money can't buy.

Car banter is lifting anyway...

But on a serious note, albeit I wasn't really joking at all, Clarkson has the BBC by the nutsack to a certain degree. I think he's a prize wanker but I can see the appeal.

You would imagine other broadcasters will be interested in a similar kind of show, although Jonathan Ross, Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley all serve as reminders that the BBC isn't such a bad gig after all.

Clarkson and Top Gear are both only minority interests without each other.

Top Gear's mass appeal relies on the sitcom element of the hosts' interaction. Clarkson's requires him to look rebellious, which works when you're on the 'bastion of political correctness' BBC but not when you're on Sky/ITV/Five.

After Charlie Sheen got kicked of Two and a Half Men it was still getting 10m+ viewers in America. If someone wants Top Gear on the air, they could.

Don't like Clarkson, don't like Top Gear, but I can't see one working without the other. Don't think he'll be fired.

You go girl.

I do.

In an age where the slightest faux pas gets an army of twitter and facebook trolls baying for blood with their pretend outrage, we have Clarkson allegedly punching somebody and people are signing petitions to keep his show on the air. This is after racism incidents and a tasteless stunt in Argentina which poked fun at the Falklands War.

I don't get it.

What's the appeal?

I love on the Daily Mail article that it says "ITV may be preparing £10million bid".

Deadline day move.

He's lucky enough to have established himself as that car driving cnut long before twitter mobs could achieve anything.
