Television Top Gear

haha you kidding?

90% of episode was staged and set up.

Read what lynk wrote that pretty much sums up top gear nowadays it was funny the first time but the same crap happens everytime now it's so predictable it's become boring

Pretty much. It's usually redeemed by interesting scenery or tasks - not tonight though.

Thanks for posting that, i was aware of the situation but didnt pay too much attention to it but that story is harrowing. Given that its JC you feel that he must have been fully aware of it given his previous interest in British wars and conflicts but it doesn't excuse the kind of response the crews received.

Never-the-less tomorrows episode should be interesting

Honestly. I just want to see the three of them chat and drive through interesting terrain. This fake arguing and scripted "oh no we're lost" bullshit is awful. It's been done so many times before.

I just wasted an hour watching this scripted crap but the rest of the household love it.

Was at japfest last May when they were filming an episode. They went on track during our time so was pretty Cool. Keep a look out

Very good tonight, I didn't get that staged or acted out feeling I got watching the last few years episodes. The cow on top of the car and them eating it was my favourite bit. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode now or the big one.

I also found the dead cow on the roof hilarious! In 2007. When they first did it for the American Special.

It's getting sad now. They generally have quite entertaining "banter" (hate the word but can't think of any better), and putting them in decent cars and then having them drive through beautiful/challenging terrain is generally worth watching. The scripting also takes away from moments when it genuinely does go wrong, as you don't believe that its real anyway

The Vietnam one was great, the American one iirc was great, and the Polar one was great. These days it's all recycling the same gags and setting up the same situations.

Actually I'm thinking of the wrong US one, I'm thinking of the Ferrari 458 vs Porsche GT3 vs Mercedes SLS where they ended in New York, that's not the special is it?

That was a special but I think he meant the one where they went to New Orleans in the budget muscle cars?

The one where they wrote 'nascar sucks' and 'manlove rules' on their cars? That was stupid.

The one with the supercars was good though.

You know the bit I found best? When Clarkson talked about the time he drove to see his dying father in a Porsche 928. That was a genuine moment, not this scripted bollocks that made up 95% of the episode.

Much, much better than the first episode. The first episode should've been cut altogether in fact.

I thought the first one was better tbh. I hate the scripted shite, but there was almost more in the second half. And if they cut the first half:

They would miss the best bit.

.....

Clarkson/top gear definitely lied about a lot of this crap. If the number plate was ever removed.. It was removed right before renterring Argentina for the final time. It being an coocindence is ridiculous too

I avoided the first episode based on redcafe reviews, but watching this one was preferable to downtown abbey. It's made me want to visit Patagonia when I'm filthy rich.

That was a very good episode, I really enjoyed it. I laughed my hole off at the site of Hammond in the Mustang being pulled across the river by the John Deere digger.

Pity a great road trip was brought to such a shitty ending. Whether the plate was intentional or not, that behaviour by the locals was uncalled for.

What a beautiful part of the world.

Bolivia was nice. I still rate Polar on top, and Bolivia just under that.
The India one was utter rubbish. More shit attempts at humour than anything to do with adventure or cars.

I thought it was boring again, the scenery was amazing though

There's no way that clarkson, Hammond and may were involved in the protesters bit either, they would've been sitting pretty in a police van or something there's is no way they were in that convoy

I'm pretty sure they said they werent going with the convoy. Clarkson mentioned how they were the targets for the protesters so they would be held up in a room and would get out of the country as soon as possible, but mentioned their "friends" had to transport the cars and equipment through the protesters to Chille.

Additionally, Clarkson wrote a piece about it in his column where he mentioned May, Hammond and himself were on their way to Buenos Aires while the convoy made its way to Chille.

I fail to see how the number plate thing is offensive. Tenuous at best.

Even when it's explained, which it needs to be, I was like, eh?

Best thing was yesterday the DM pulling up the Slope joke again because as they drove over the bridge that wasnt finished the word Slope was used where they used wood to drive off it, there was a slope as in a gradient which they drove down, it appears that there is a media agenda from some against Top Gear, me I hope it continues the Xmas Special had me laughing at times, and was all in all fun to watch, for those who moan about it simply ´switch it off.

But how would they then be able to moan and bitch about it?

For the record, I haven't watched Top Gear for several years.

I just don't get the registration plate thing. I fail to see how the casual observer could be offended by it. Even when it's explained, it's still not really that big a deal.
Its a raw topic in Argentina, theyre still claiming ownership over the Falklands to the present day, so when they see an Englishman having the balls to drive through their country apparently gloating about it, its gonna strike a nerve.
You just know there's footage somewhere of them meeting up in a car park showing off their 2nd hand cars to each other, with May and Hammond pointing out what the plate means while calling Clarkson an idiot.
ITLL BE FIIIINE...RELAX
Id put money on it.

Agreed. They'd managed to drive through a hell of a lot of Argentina with nobody thinking it was an issue before being faced with these loony Argies chucking bricks.

No really, you don't say?

H982 FKL, it means nothing, it's just a random selection of letters & numbers. Where is the offence here, because I don't get it

I think a lot of people have a problem with the idea that a number plate stating both the year of the conflict and the place struggle to accept it was completely a coincidence. Especially given Top Gears past.

Yep.

It was definitely deliberate in my opinion.

People died in 1982 fighting over FKL. The mob would have contained family members and comrades of the deceased.

But don't you see, if you see a car with this registration coming down the road, you wouldn't even clock it, let along spontaneously start throwing bricks. It just wouldn't happen without separate deliberate provocation.

btw, people died on both sides.

No one said thats what happened?

It was spotted by someone and posted online, thus it gained media attention and the big shit storm you saw in the news.
