Television Top Gear

So is it Top GEAR or TOP gear? I think the former and it bugs the feck out of me when people say the other one.

The thing is, he's certainly not a moron. He knows you can't say what people are saying he said. We know he knows that because he's issued an apology. He definitely wouldn't have said it on tele, as much of a bellend as he is. So what's the story then? That he mumbled it off camera mid rhyme?

I thought the slope joke was much worse (as that was actually aimed at someone and broadcast) than him mumbling an old nursery rhyme. He could have been sacked for that.

I still remember his incredibly stupid finish to an otherwise excellent Polar Special episode, where he was doing the voice over and said this:

Perhaps then that's what we've proved most of all - really - the inconvenient truth is, it doesn't appear to have even scratched the surface.

He's entertaining, but he's an entertaining idiot. I would shed no tear if he were sacked.

I don't see too much wrong with that line, suggesting that global warming isn't as bad we might think. Nothing that controversial really?

Top Gear is broadcast in 214 countries and earns BBC millions each year. They're not going to sack Clarkson.

The thing is, the BBC are the ones that keep airing the bits that get complaints too.

I never even knew the eenie meenie rhyme used to have the n word in it until now, in fact I can't even remember what we used to say when we were kids, but if that was the original version of the rhyme, wouldn't it make sense to just not go there in the first place?

The BBC was also responsible for airing all the other controversies like Mexico, The comments on truckers, and the various others (too many really).

To be honest, I've never known about the "slope" reference. Is that regional thing?

They knew about Savile for years and the things he had done. I think Clarkson has to do a lot more than what he's done to get sacked. I have never heard of that 'slope' thing before either. Maybe he hasn't either.
People love to get offended, don't they?

Yes let's wait until he assaults a few people before sacking him. He's been making racist comments for years;let's be honest here,he's not a de constructionalist comedian in the Ricky Gervaise mould,he's a cnut and about time we got rid of him and that riduculous show

I love Top Gear. I'm not a huge fan of Clarkson. I think James May is the best of the three. But if Clarkson eventually gets sacked, he and Andy Wilman will take the show, and probably Hammond and May, and simply go and make Top Gear for another channel.

Works for me. Nothing against Top Gear, just don't like my license fee going to someone like Jeremy Clarkson.

Don't think he is a hardcore racist or anything but he certainly has some preconceived notions that he thinks are a good basis for his humour.

It's not a regional thing, just a generational thing.

Have you seen the film Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood? He says "I thought you slopes were supposed to be good at math" and many other colourful variants.

I've never heard any of these comments. What has he said?

I think Top Gear's become markedly less funny and entertaining since they made a concious decision to try and be funny and entertaining. There was a peak a few years back where it was, essentially, three slightly pissed blokes messing about which is always entertaining if nothing else. It's far too contrived these days and the crux of the matter is the three of them aren't actually very funny when they try to be.

"Oh no! Jeremy has set something on fire!" *queue pyrotechnics*
"Haha! He's a fool isn't he!"

Needs a rethink.

This, the best episodes these days are the road trips which have more organic humour. Though it's got to the point where if something funny does happen, I instantly view it as scripted. I'd be quite happy just to have a few specials a year

Just watching season 20 episodes that I found on my laptop. Whatever you say about the actual comedy level of the show now (It's become a bit stale), the production quality is top notch. I don't think I've seen anything which is just so well produced. They always have different techniques to show, the music is almost always bang on. They totally capture the emotions behind cars. It isn't any longer a show that I often laugh out loud to, but I still love watching it to actually SEE the way it is made.

Can't wait for the next season. When is it out?

They say the reg of one of the cars used was just a coincidence that is bore a reference to the Falklands War. H982 FKL
Has much as I love Top Gear and think Clarson is a god, there is no way that it was a coincidence, if Clarkson and Co had any say in the cars used , it would of been perfectly clear to them that the reg makes reference to the Falklands War.
Damn stupid thing to do.

Saw on Sky News earlier that the H982 FKL number plate was put on the car in 2002.

Top Gear wouldn't be any good without the controversy.

Clarkson tweeted today saying on the day it happened the car wasn't baring the offensive plate because they'd already removed it.
