Television Top Gear

Think this trip to Argentina was meant to be this years Xmas Special then it starts in January.

sounded pretty scary, even if Clarkson had no knowledge the number plate, and I doubt that for one minute, how on earth did the people in charge not see the problem the plate would cause.

I image that they just thought they could get away with it. They've constantly done this type of shite before and now it seems someone had enough of it(Always thought the 'comedy' sections in the vietnam special was the lowest point in the shows history. They were just so horrible and cnut ish).

I'm really bored of top gear now, Every race they do is so scripted for certain things to happen, I used to love the show but I feel it's had one or 2 seasons too many. The last few special episodes have been awful too.

Do you remember the top gear years ago when they drove across America or something and they were in Texas
I think and they painted their cars in support of gay marriage and one car said NASCAR sucks etc. they love the confrontation and I don't believe for a second this number plate was coincidental.

The bbc will never get rid though as it's where the majority of money comes from and others still like it.

I'm really bored of top gear too - for the most part. Cars in general tend to be pretty boring these days. Are there new exciting cars actually coming out? Or do I just not know about them because I'm not 13 years old.

The Veyron came out in 2005, and is still the fastest legal road car isn't it? Nothing's really changed in the car world except for lower emissions and smaller engines. 2fast2furious was 2003, which was probably the height of "fast crap street cars"

I appreciated that Japanese supercar on top gear, that was amazing - although I literally cannot remember a single thing about it. But it was amazing. That's all I remember though.

We are really waiting for the likes of Tesla and other Electric car manufacturers to make cars exciting again. Unfortunately, Top Gear would rather take the piss out of electric cars than embrace it.

I dont think the BBC make much money from Top Great though. Maybe it helps sell BBC America and similar, but the BBC get the vast majority of their money from licence fee which has nothing to do with Top Gear

Well I'm one of these bores that actually wants affordable cars reviewed I don't mind when they do the odd super car or luxury car but I wouldn't mind them doing more affordable cars too to actually give consumer advice let's be honest if I trust anyone in the car world it would be JC. I know from articles that one of JC favourite car is a 02 plate focus, May loves fiat pandas. I'd just like to see them do cars like that, in the series the whole racing from point a to point b with a few similar mishaps in between got very boring.

I agree Cars are pretty boring now tbh every car is too similar to another car of similar class if you get me, I think the reason they take the piss out of electric Cars is because of charge times and there is still many kinks to be worked out and they are hugely expensive to buy. I personally can't see electric cars ever catching on tbh

I love Top Gear too and always will love watching it. Particularly the older series. But recently even I have been beginning to think that maybe it's gone on one or two series too many.

Some of the items are still good. But a lot of it now is just too scripted. I know parts of it have always been scripted but their just not hiding it as well now and it's becoming really obvious. Another thing I don't understand is all the controversy that they create and the mild racist undertones that go on. Most of it isn't funny at all and it just devalues the show.

Also all the forced humour and forced / fake laughter from the audience really annoys me now. Their all trying to be funny now when in the past the humour was natural and arose out of the situations that they were in. I'm hopeful that this series is more like old Top Gear but unfortunately I doubt it.

I mainly watch the special shows because I enjoy the educational road trip purpose to it. The studio shows itself I find a bit silly and repetitive at times, anything that involves tin cars on wheels, and a boat made from a van are usually daft episodes.

Generally agree with this. In terms of the Veyron though, they pretty much aknowledged at the time that it was the "concorde moment" for cars as the focus has now changed to efficiency etc.

Top Gear is easily their most profitable show, it's broadcast in something like 200 countries and makes them a fortune.

It's why they let Clarkson get away with so much shit.

The 'W3 WON' one he mentioned would have been more offensive.

'BE11 END' isn't offensive, it's just crap.

A local official is said to have told the Mirror: "We regard it as another insult to the Argentinian people."

They just want to moan about it.

But the BBC have confirmed Clarkson had an even more offensive number plate within the vehicle, which spelled 'BE11 END'.

What was amusing to me was that one of the Argentinian officials actually explained the context of the word to the media.

"We know bellend doesn't mean the end of the bell and is a word used instead to describe the head of the penis which is often employed as an insult in England," they were quoted as saying.

"We regard it as another insult to the people of Argentina.

"We're sure the Top Gear team were planning another provocation with the number plate in the same way they provoked us with the one referencing the Falklands War."

So what do you all think, was his numberplate purposely offensive? I really think so.

Not so far.

Disagree, I'm finding it boring tbh it's the same old same old. In other words a series of blatantly scripted and staged events. I know it's got to be entertaining but it's all happened before.

 I was saying it's not better so far, we agree.

I've turned it off now, our neighbours were having a full throated row so we turned the sound off to listen to that

Very good tonight, I didn't get that staged or acted out feeling I got watching the last few years episodes. The cow on top of the car and them eating it was my favourite bit. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode now or the big one.

My mistake, your neighbours rowing will probably be more entertaining that that snooze fest I've just watched. Sadly I think top gear is done now.

Top Gear Cliche Checklist

- Late night vandalism on someone's car
- "Getting lost" in a suspiciously bad road
- Going over a dodgy bridge
- "I wonder if the car will make it?" followed by the car arriving two seconds later
- Driving through flooded plains or rivers
- "Leaving" people behind
- Having a joke car following behind as a replacement
- Complaining for 80% of the show about shitty roads when all it takes is one guy to open up Google Maps

I switched off well before the end, but the rickety bridge that was into a dead end, the road disappearing and becoming worse and worse then a forest and then the unfinished bridge were all quite blatantly staged.

Thing is, it's always been staged and had stuff like that set up, but it used to be half way original, now it's just the same old shit.

Wasn't great, couple of funny moments. I did laugh at the bridge bit when Clarkson asked "is it straight?"

Next episode preview looks much better though.

haha you kidding?

90% of episode was staged and set up.

Read what lynk wrote that pretty much sums up top gear nowadays it was funny the first time but the same crap happens everytime now it's so predictable it's become boring
