20m seems a bit low, but don't be surprised if he is sold for far less than some of the inflated transfer muppets on here rate him as going for.

I also think 20m is slightly on the low side, but not by much.
At the end of the day, if you had a choice of 20-25m or 0 a year later, it would be stupid to let them walk away for free.

I still kinda don't understand why Dortmund let Lewa walk away when they could have got 25-30m for him last season.
Keeping Kroos for one more single season wouldn't help Bayern that much, in the sense that, they already have plenty of midfielders, so it's not as if, if they sell him, they need to buy, they wouldn't actually need to buy another midfielder.

Keeping him for another season is silly. I cannot see them getting 40m+ for him, but I do think it would be more around the 25-30m mark

Well he will be in the last year of his contract. And in the same circumstance we got Ashley Young for 18 million. So for 20 million its on. :wenger:

Well the odd thing is that he sort of is being given the main man role. He's certainly been the most important and consistent presence in their midfield this year. So it seems strange that they aren't willing to offer him a wage to reflect that.
Kroos' discontent came to the fore this year. And this year he has been moved a lot in the midfield. Sometimes he has to play anchor, sometimes the holding role restraining his creativity. But as you say, he has been featuring quite consistently. Footballers can be childish and petty, just like us. So it is not so strange if he feels that the coach doesnt trust him in his best position instead of feeling like a valued versatile member of the team. It is probably not only about the wages. It might be political. All the rumors about wanting more wages have slowed down. We have heard about his status more often. With us, he will definitely be the main man and so he is linked to us. While Moyes was with us, we had speculation that he wouldn't quit Bayern and that the negotiations would be successful ultimately. I think we also had his agent's quotes that he wont leave Bayern. But with the Moyes sacking and the subsequent Van Gaal association and later the appointment, we haven't heard anything from the Kroos camp. It has gone all quiet. If Bayern's negotiations were successful, we would have an announcement of a new contract. Maybe he is quitting Bayern. My inner muppet wants to believe now.

Why is the 20 million price tag so crazy?

Wasn't Özil and Sahin sold for 10 million, and Kagawa sold for 12? All of these players were bigger names on paper when they were sold than Kroos is now, imo. If I'm not mistaken, there are many players in the Bundesliga who are on Kroos' level or above. What makes Kroos unique is his age and versatility. It suggests a promising future.

But for being a young Bundesliga star still very much in development, I don't think that 20 million seems too low. Especially seeing as we're not even direct rivals for Bayern.

Woke up to reports that Kroos is available for 20 million! Seems ludicrous. Surely they wouldn't let him go that cheaply? Bearing in mind how much we probably would spend on him .

Still, if he is available for that I wouldn't say no

Why is 20m seen as such a low ball figure? he only has 1 year left on his contract. If he had 4 years and wanted leave i would not expect to pay more than 50m even if dealing with Bayern.

You're underrating Kroos. He's not just potential, he's been one of the best midfielders in the world this season. The most influential and consistent presence in Bayern's midfield this season, despite the embarrassment of riches they have there.

And the difference between Kroos being sold and Kagawa, Ozil or Sahin is obviously that Kroos is at Bayern. When Kagawa and Sahin were at Dortmund it was very much a selling club. Likewise Ozil at Bremen.

Whereas you don't buy a key player from one of the top two teams in the world (and one of the top three financially) against their will without paying through the nose.

Clearly. I thought Robben and Ribery were the standout players in attack/midfield. I don't know if I've read on the wrong places, but my impression is that Kroos is very good, but a bit overrated nonetheless.

Would Bayern really lose a key player with Kroos gone? Is Kroos easily one of the top 3-5 players in the Bundesliga right now? Better than Ribery, Robben, Götze, Reus etc?

Selling club or not: Bayern never seem to care much about money, and if Kroos isn't a player they desperately need and the player wants to move, then couldn't a 20 million deal technically happen?

I think Kroos being out of contract soon will lower the price considerably, especially if he wants to come to OT.

If us losing out on Thiago last summer means getting Kroos this year, then I will be ecstatic.

thiago is better then kroos. If kroos came, I'd be happy, but not expectant of groundbreaking performances, I just see kroos as being an overrated midfielder. he's very good, but not cream of the crop quality, and I have doubts that he's truly worth building around for a genuinely top top club. thiago is just something else entirely, I can easily see him as becoming amongst the premier midfielders in the world within the next few seasons.

If Woodward's wheeling and dealing manages to get us Kroos for 20m (or even 25), then he would have changed my opinion of him. Bayern are notoriously hard to deal in the transfer market.

Apparently the disparity between the wages offered by Bayern, and what Kroos expects, is huge. So there might be some truth in this rumour.

The Journalist Chris Wheeler was on talksport, refusing to back down from the story and said that the deal will go through.

I'm liking all this news. Hopefully there is some truth to it then

Talent wise, Thiago is a level above Kroos, so I wouldn't necessarily be ecstatic in that tradeoff.

Agreed. Even people who have been living under a rock know we need some fresh blood there and I'll be very happy we're getting a quality midfielder in Kroos. I'll never see him in the top bracket though, something Thiago can easily make.

Why are people saying Thiago can be top bracket and Kroos can't? Baffling considering only a year difference in terms of age and Kroos has so far been better than him. Why can't Kroos improve?

Who cares about Thiago now?

Kroos is not being signed to be the "savior". He is a good midfielder who will improve the squad. What more do want?

Get in Woodward. :D

Kroos has done so much more than Thiago has thus far in their careers.

To suggest Thiago is definitely destined for greater heights is a bit ludicrous on the evidence of their performances over the last two seasons.

So do we think this could actually happen? A world class German footballer leaving "FC Hollywood" to play in a foreign country for a club with no European football. I'm encouraged by the reports but part of me still thinks it's a bit far fetched.

It reminds me a bit of when Roy Keane was holding United to ransom. Nobody really believed he would leave. United was the biggest and best club in England. It was where he belonged and it was only a matter of time until and agreement would be reached.

The Kroos situation seems similar to me. He's the future of German football. He should be at Bayern. It's his natural home. Unless his relationship with the club has completely soured it makes no sense for him to leave.

In fairness to Keane, he did say he had held talks with clubs like Juventus, if I can recall correctly. I was genuinely bricking it that he would leave, because the type of person Keane was, you knew he meant every word he said. Plus United's wage structure was very strict back then, and a big reason why we didn't get to sign the likes of Batistuta etc.

I still think it's unlikely Kroos will come to United. Like you said, a German player leaving Bayern for a club with no European football seems far fetched. But hey, stranger things have happened. We signed Arsenal's captain, and got Chelsea's poty last season. Hell, Michael Owen signed for Man Utd a few years ago so why not?

The bold part would IMHO be the issue for Kroos. I expect him to depart in summer 2015 though, and if LvG is still in charge and you're back into CL football, United could very well be his destination.

Excited about this now. How should I pronounce his name when I meet him? Cruise? Or Kroos-uh?
Think I'll just call him Toni.

I think Kroos is being criminally overrated on here, IMO.
Wouldn't be too sure, he's not world class but he's a very good midfielder who will go a long way to fixing our problems if we do get him (which I still doubt). Criminally overrating him would be calling him one of the best in the world which I don't think many did.

Yeah. But then, on that basis, we'd hardly be able to sign anyone, would we? :(

2015 could be too late for Kroos. Fellaini might have turned into the second coming of Bryan Robson by then.

Too early to come up with a better description but the "o"s in his last name are pronounced as in the German word "Moos" (English: moss); there are online dictionaries like www.leo.org where you can listen to the German pronounciation.

Didn't Daniel Taylor said that two deals are provisionally agreed, a long time ago. It'd tally with the recent reports of Shaw and now this. Let's wait and watch, but we did sign Mata and RVP inspite of the fact that no-one believed we'll sign them.

Why'll Kroos spend another year on low wages when he knows he could get double wages at another club this season?

Bayern hardly hold the cards here, he's in his last year of contract. Would Bayern really risk losing a player on a free when they can get 20-30m for him?

Cheers, Manni. Your linkage work to online German dictionaries is way better than your failed efforts to stop John Robertson in 1980.
