I was utterly convinced Kroos was playing a contract game with Bayern and they would cave. Now, folk are talking like this is the most likely transfer to happen. I'm trying to avoid the heartbreaking Muppetry of last summer... but excitement building.

I must admit I haven't seen that much of Kroos as I don't follow German football. Just how good is he? And what sort of midfielder is he? Or who is he similar to from the premier league ( past /present)? Cheers

I suspect all that has changed is what people are saying. As long as his first choice is to stay - and I'd be pretty amazed if it isn't - it's a long shot for this to happen.

I wonder if he was playing a game to a degree but also thinking that if he did end up at Utd it wouldn't be the worst thing but maybe LvG coming to us has tipped the scales in our favour?

I still can't see it happening. Or maybe I refuse to see it.

He's outstanding. A full arsenal of passing ability. Excellent and quick decision maker. Physically impressive. He's made for us and so much so that I struggle to believe we could get him. Against the strict orders of my Mrs I'd buy my first season ticket in years if I could get to watch Kroos all season. The marriage could be saved at counselling so no great shakes there.

And if it isn't, then the price of the season ticket would pale into insignificance, compared to the cost of the divorce. A win win situation.

Wow, that good? Alongside an energetic box to boxer that could be lethal.

Also has a great shot on him too. It'd be nice to have a midfielder who can score some goals. Even when Carrick was at his best, it was a flaw in his game.

Did anybody see the quotes from Muller on Kroos?

He said that "not everybody can be the highest paid player in the team", It seem's they are all digging the knife in and trying to talk him down. I can't imagine that will help the cause much.

It isn't always the best judge, but a quick look on youtube will give you an idea of exactly what he's capable of.

If you can watch that video and not be excited about him joining us, you've got serious issues

You want a translation of the whole text?

Question of the interviewer: You are none of the highest paid players for Bayern like Schweinsteiger, Götze, Lahm or Ribery? Can you understand better that Toni Kroos wants more money?

Müller: That is a difficult topic. I played football managers when I was a child. And there I recognized that you cannot pay everybody the maximum. If you won the treble it is just humanly that everybody would like to have a little appreciation for it.

You see. He did not say anything... or ... he said that he understands that there must be differences in wages but that it is understandable when a single player wants more "appreciation". I guess he did not like that question at all and just tried to get out of it...

----------

The German press tries to interpret this interview today in every aspect - especially regarding a possible transfer to Manchester United. He was asked about it and he just told that everybody knows about his special relationship to van Gaal but that he has contract until 2017 and that he has a special relationship to Bayern, too. They wait on him ruling everything out and stating that he stays at Bayern a 100 % in 2014/15 - but until now he did not say that. As long as he does not do that - or the club totally rules that out (right now Bayern does not talk about plans of any players) - that will still be in the open.

That is the problem with some of you. Youtube... Maybe somebody should tell you that he needed 32 shots in the CL for one goal... - and 52 in the Bundesliga for 2...

The Toni Kroos that I have seen play is not a dynamic goal scoring box to box midfielder. He actually looks slow to me and doesn't score very often. He does seem to have a good shot on him though. He seems more like a pass master to me, the closet player in style to Scholes after he dropped a little deeper in the second half of his career.

Yeah, it's been pointed out that he was better the season before last, so I hold my hands up on that one. I should have just said last season. I've always been a fan of Carrick, but i think he's on the wane a bit and he'd still be on the bench if we were to sign Kroos and Vidal, for example (not that I think we will).

Carrick is turning 33 at the start of next season so not only has his level dropped, but we need to be looking to replace him. I reckon LVG will wait until January and get Strootman though.

That gets it better - not the youtube videos with his goals... Yes, he has a good shot and they look great when they go in - just that he needs a lot tries...

To be fair that is an upgrade on Anderson, whenever he got the ball 20 yards from goal everyone in Row Z put their crash helmets on

And in my opinion, Carrick has had an awful season this year almost entirely due to his midfield partner. We always knew he wasn't the kind of player to grab a game by the scruff of it's neck or by making surging runs. But last season he was partnered alongside more athletic and mobile partners, Jones and Cleverley, whereas this season it's been mostly Fellaini or a shell shocked Cleverley. For me that highlights the importance of a balanced CM partnership.
Yes, and no other players of his category are expected to essentially play on their own in central midfield and perform every role simultaneously. Pirlo and Alonso are always guarded by two energetic, skilled midfielders ahead of them, giving them passing options and support.

It is frankly a disgrace how Carrick has been managed. We have been hoping for an adequate midfield partner or two for him for such a long time, that it now appears that Carrick himself is imminently in need of replacing.

Kroos would fill and perhaps surpass Carrick's role in terms of being a distributor from midfield, but I do not believe him to have the natural defensive capabilities of Carrick.

Still a strange situation if Kroos joins now. Why take the step down from Bayern? It seems money is our main allure for players now, rather than our prestige and competitiveness. At least we are no longer burdened by Moyes.

Agreed.
And he looks so much more suited to a slow paced game, and I think he'd need quite a bit of time to adapt to the pace of the game here. A similar lethargy to Toure without the strength to perhaps cancel it out.

He's definitely similar to Scholes in terms of his choice of pass and his positioning on the pitch. But again - I don't see the urgency to his game that Scholes had (even in the last few years).

He'd need a seriously energetic midfielder next to him; someone like Fernandinho or Vidal; someone who'll consistently win the 50/50s for the 90 minutes.

I do not think it is only money. It might be his position in the club, too. He is not high in the pecking order in Munich - not with the club, not in the dressing room and not with the fans. He is not even in the second row - maybe in the third. And I do not really think that would change if he stays in Munich.

People keep saying this, but do people forget our most successful team of recent years was a midfield partnership of Scholes and Carrick?. Dynamism is great and everything, but if you can have players who work the ball correctly, and are tactically clever enough to get back into shape quickly it won't be a problem.

Sure those as a pair are hardly "dynamic", but I would certainly have no worries against 3/4 of the league.

Ye true, however, we still had issues defensively, and at times, teams still found easy to play through the heart of our midfield.

Like I said, I have no doubt Carrick/Kroos partnership would keep the ball well - we kept the ball very well against Everton - but got destroyed on the counter. I don't think it'd be too dissimilar with Carrick/Kroos in midfield.

I thought of that, but personally I just don't think Carrick is good enough anymore. Hopefully last season was just a blip and he'll get back to his best again but I'm not so sure that will happen. It's hard to say since so many players underperformed for Moyes.

Carrick, when given time and space, can pick a pass alright. The problem is that he simply cannot deal with being put under any kind of pressure. He can't create space for himself like the best players can - quick, decisive, confident a la Scholesy or Kroos and he can't physically impose himself. He has always struck me as someone who doesn't quite believe he's good enough, probably isn't anyway, and plays accordingly ie often unambitious and conservative.

No doubt we need 2 midfielders whatever happens. But people saying we don't need Kroos because he isn't "dynamic" is just plain stupid.

Well if you read my comment you'd see it'd have nothing to do with Kroos being German.

No of course it doesn't -it's just a coincidence

Jokes about Germans looking like Nazis can get filed in the same section as "thick Paddy" jokes wouldn't you agree?

Kroos is considered as the best playmaker in Germany ahead of Gotze, Reus or Ozil. Kroos can play in a midfield of 2 or 3 without problem.

Against Arsenal this year in CL he reminded me a Xavi because he flotted behind their midfield and was so inlfuent on the game. He was marvelous.

Against us, he played deeper like Scholesy did for us those 5/7 last years.

Dynamic or not, he can control the game, the tempo like Scholes did, and if he's avalaible, he's an absolute must for us.

To finish, Van Gaal quoted last week that he loves 4-3-3 and his 3 in the hole must be different. One defensive, one dynamic and one creative. I'm sorry but Kroos is the 3 of that, he can play easily in any system....

So yeah definitely, Kroos would be a major boost for us

This post almost sent me into a muppet frenzy. But a brilliant short summerization of why we absolutely need him and the offer will be huge to get him.

It's the 2nd time today that it feels like the Germany I live in is in a parallel universe and different realities are connected through the Caf. Fascinating.

Do you live in Bayern? That might explain a lot :D

Have we bought him yet? What's the latest news?

The more Kroos get's linked the more angry Balu seem's to get about him :D

Maybe Kroos isn't that good after all, and we have just suffered with a piss poor midfield for ages, we don't even realise.

Wait what? I'm not angry about Kroos. I'm just part of the minority in Germany that really rates him.

He is obviously way better than anyone we have in our midfield, but he would still only be my 4th/5th choice midfield signing as he obviously has his flaws.

We're going to announce a triple signing soon. Fabregas, Kroos and Shaw.

If only things really worked out that way in reality. One of them is exciting enough, but all three announced at the same time and I'd probably scream like a girl in public.

:lol::lol::nervous:

Pretty brilliant I must say.

Mirror saying we are looking to fight Liverpool for Konoplyanka too. He'd be a very good addition for the left side I reckon.

We've apparently dropped our interest and are pursuing a higher calibre of player.
