Jaysus, there's reports all over the place that we've agreed a deal with Bayern. From some reliable sources too.

I'm not getting my hopes up yet, but things are looking promising.

So who else is joining me in cocks out o'clock?

Good enough for me. Are people forgetting that he was player of the year last season? You'll see a completely different player next season under van Gaal than you did under Moyes.

People are so quick to give up on our players.

Not giving up on Carrick, just wondering if he's really suited to that particular Strootman role. I mean it's obviously a position LVG has particular requirements for, otherwise he wouldn't have changed Netherlands' entire formation just because Strootman is out.

With that in mind, I'm sort of surprised we haven't been linked with more DM types so far, whereas we have been strongly linked with both Kroos and Cesc. Just wondering how that cm is gonna shape up.

Would like this to happen. For some reason I want him more than Fabregas even though in my opinion Fabregas MIGHT be the better player.

Manchester Evening news and MEN are not reliable I'm afraid:lol: If Mark Ogden reports it, I might be more inclined to believe it. Not believing any of this to be honest, I just don't see any reason why Kroos would leave Bayern Munich. You could argue he wants more money but who is to say Bayern Munich won't eventually give in and offer him the terms he desires?

This lad obviously

:lol::lol:

I bet van Gaal feels the same way I do. I think some people have forgotten that we are Manchester United. As awful as our season was, if you changed a few results at OT, we would have been challenging for 4th. Our home record is not going to suck under Louis van Gaal. Some people are acting like we were fighting relegation.

Well aren't you acting like we are going to win the league next year? The manager hasn't even taken over, we haven't signed anyone. If we had this same conversation 5 months from now after signing 3-5 players, then I understand.

I said we were winning the league in 2015-16 season.

Yeah RDCR07 - get with the feckin programme man

So Kroos looks like our most likely CM signing atm, with Strootman the prime target for the DM role?

Except Strootman probably wouldn't sign until January, so we probably wouldn't sign any DM in the summer and would presumably use Carrick in that role for the first half of the season?

The problem with your analysis is that Strootman is not a defensive midfielder.

However, that does not bother me as much as our interest in a potential world class holding midfielder in Carvalho being dropped since Moyes depature. Looking at the season Carrick had, I rather have Ben Pearson play the holding role ahead of him at the moment if partnered with Kroos.

Maybe you're a younger fan than me CG? I'm 38, but your jib is associated with someone who's only been a fan in the glory-years. My generation & before that, have seen it all & we never get carried away with success because it can all go tits up. I hate us bein regarded as arrogant glory-hunters, when most of us are not. We all need to be patient & not get ahead of ourselves thinkin LVG is gonna be an overnight success.

Its a fantastic appointment, but lets keep calm & hope the good times roll once again - not be cocky about shit like Liverpool fans have done for the duration of the Premier League - "This is our year.." type of shite...

Most definitely one for the future alright - hopefully he'll get an opportunity next season. Fantastic player..

Oh? I was under the impression that Strootman was used in a DM role in LVG's Dutch team, no?

I am not sure about for Netherland, but for Roma he plays box to box and is excelling in that role.

Kroos and Carrick will find it hard complementing each other due to the almost similiar approach both take in their style of play. Carrick workload will be exasperated with a partner who is not reknowned for his defensive duty. With him nearing the end of his career, his game would be much improved with a more mobile partner ahead of him.

E.g. Pirlo «» Vidal, Gerrad «» Henderson, Arteta «» Ramsey, old/slow deep lying playmaker «» energetic box to hox midfielder = complement :)

I think we avoided any real danger with the sacking of Moyes. Football is not the same as it was 30 years ago. I don't want to say United is too big to fail, but we just can't afford to do so. We would do everything in our power to avoid it.

I don't think we will ever be in danger of a situation like relegation for example. We will not fall off the map.

My previous posts were perhaps over the top, but I think they are needed in a "sea" of negativity. I have gotten tired of some of the fans diminishing the grandeur of our club. It is good to see van Gaal come in and remind the fans that we are a big fecking deal in the world of football.

I do think we will finish in the top 4 next season and I am confident we will win the title in a couple of seasons.

Had van Gaal taken over the club last summer, we would still be in the Champions League.

LVG doesn't guarantee titles, despite being successful but at the very least he will leave a solid foundation for whoever takes over from him (Giggs I assume). This league is a war, top 4 is not easy with 6/7 teams gunning for it. Chelsea and City won't finish outside the top 4, so there's 4/5 of us going for two spots: United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton. It won't be easy, but I think we will do it and with the right 3/4 signings we can finish in there comfortably.

Why?

Why do newspapers who are supposed to report news, as in past tense stuff that has actually happened, continue to be allowed to print foundation-less hearsay?

Great player, but I'm having second thoughts with Kroos, especially if he were to be partnered with Carrick next season. We need to add some dynamism.

The thought of Carrick and Kroos as a midfield two scares me, that would be so slow and static. I'd genuinely rather see Cleverley and Kroos, Cleverley at least provides some energy.

Ye, but the two would still lack drive. Our best recent midfield pairing, in my opinion, come when we had energy (Cleverley) mixed with drive (Anderson).

I think with a partnership of Carrick/Cleverley and Kroos, we'd most likely keep the ball well, but they'd be no sort of cutting edge, especially when we come up against a team where you need your midfielder to maybe beat one player to open up some room.

I think if we're going to go with Carrick next season, we need someone similar to Modric, Gundogan, Wilshere, Rakitic, etc.

If we buy Kroos, I highly doubt he'll be the last CM to come in this summer. We'll bring in the energetic, defensively capable, box-to-box sort of player who will complement him best. See Kroos as an upgrade to Carrick rather than a partner for him.

If we're looking to use Carrick as a starter next season still then I'd worry a bit for us really. None of the current crop should be first choice, they're all far below what is required. Carrick used to be good enough but he's turning 33, he shouldn't be seen as a starter just because he's a good passer. Maybe in defence to fill in or as a squad player, but definitely not as a starter when fit like he's been.

If van Gaal has learned from the past he will partner Kroos with a very defensive partner and look that he has enough movement ahead of him. I think that is a big problem, too. Kagawa was always the least mobile player at Dortmund, Mata ain't either - and I do not really know about Rooney.

He tried a Kroos with van Bommel or Schweinsteiger pairing four years ago and you really had to feel sorry for the defenders especially as Kroos did not have any defensive sense then.

----

But - like I told you before. I doubt that Kroos has any wish to make a new encounter with van Gaal. He grew up a lot in the recent 3 years but... That move would really surprise me.

If van Gaal has done anything consistently, it's been flexible about what to do at different clubs and with different players. As you say, pairing Kroos with a very purely defensive partner is unlikely to be a good option. If we can see that, so can van Gaal, so I highly doubt that's what he'll do. The media obviously agree, too, since Carvalho is the only real 'defensive midfielder' we've been linked with, and that rumour seems to have been completely abandoned now. The sort of midfielders we're being linked with aside from Kroos are the sort that would complement him best - mobile, box-to-box, defensively solid but multitalented. Players like Strootman or Vidal.

I really hope this happens but it just wouldn't make any sense for Bayern to let him go when he will likely stay if given the money he thinks he deserves. Now Bayern obviously think it's too much and are considerate of their wage structure but ultimately Kroos is one of their top players so can command the fee and they won't want to look weak letting one of their stars leave.

If they do choose to cash in then great cos it looks like we're happy to pay what it takes to get him but in reality I'll be very surprised if they don't negotiate a salary he's happy with and he stays put unfortunately. Kroos gets plenty of game time and has been there years so unless he is really unhappy and serious about his wage demands I just can't see him leaving his home country to join us but you never know. Not many of us thought we would end up signing van Persie and Mata though so it could happen!

However, reports claim the deal has made significant progression after Louis Van Gaal formally replaced the Scot on Monday, with the 'principles of an agreement' now in place.

From the express article.
Seems it's still just papers making headlines to sell to muppets.
Reports claim, yet they have no sources, and state that the deal is done. Wtf?
