Do they? I'm pretty sure I saw @Balu state his defensive aspect of the game was sometimes underrated or understated, whilst people tend to overplay his shooting abilities.

Most Bayern fans are critical of his defensive abilities whereas balu rates him as a player. Hargreaves also doubts his abilities to play in the PL due to his lack of awareness.

It depends on how lvg wants us to play.

fwiw, i don't believe there is any chance we will sign kroos.

Most Bayern fans are idiots. And saying his defensive contribution is underrated doesn't mean he should play in a midfield two with Fabregas. I mean, seriously. Why going from one extreme to the other? Both Kroos and Fabregas played mostly as AM/attacking CMs for two of the most possession oriented teams of all time in the last years and some people here start dreaming about them playing as a midfield two in the Premier League. Yeah, I'm sure that'll work.

I completely agree with you pal. We'd get destroyed with those 2 in a midfield pairing.

I like kroos. I just don't think he will leave.

 As good as it sounds a midfield of Fabregas and Kroos will hugely get overrun. None of the players are runners or quick interceptors of the ball and we'll be back to calling our midfield sluggish and static again. Both of them needs a solid box to box midfielder or a runner alongside to make a good midfield two.

Yep, undoubtedly true. Either of them alongside Vidal, however, and I would probably fαp myself to death.

I would figure it would be a classic 4-3-3 either like this:

-Runner--Fabregas
-----Kroos-------

or:

Kroos-----Fabregas
-------DM---------

though we`re not signing both of these guys anyways.

Nope, it would definitely be an either/or situation, given our excellent #10s.

Fab/Kroos---'Runner'/DM
-----------Mata-----------

Mata will have to play on the wings though which is surely what he won't like. Our best bet is 2 in the middle unless we're playing Mata as an advanced midfielder.

He can be as reliable as he likes, we were confident of a Cesc deal last year and we all know how it turned out.

 Speak for yourself. Personally I actually listened the three times he said 'I love it here, I'm happy here, I'm definitely not going anywhere.'

And I don't think it's any more likely this summer either, tbh.

Not to mention the Arsenal first option and the 'I'd like to come back one day'.

Any Barca supporter I know says they'd be happy to let Cesc go for a nice €40m fee in order to get in other players and supposedly that's the view of the club too. He's probably very attainable this summer. The question is whether he actually would go to Utd given his past clubs.

Don't understand the obsession with Fabregas. Reminds me of Rooney. Still living from the glory of being world class a few years ago. I mean of course I'd take him and he would improve us dramatically, but I'd rather have Kroos or Gündogan than him as our future 8.

Don't get me wrong I still think Fabregas is a fantastic player, just never hit the heights that we expected him, like Rooney.

I thought there's a fixed fee too (which is why Barca don't want to sell him to us if possible).

Fabregas not progressing is probably because of Barca's system. In a team where transitions are quicker and he has more license to do what he wants he'll look better. It's a bit different to him being picked as a false 9 or them trying to re mold him in some ways, and replace Xavi a bit.

I hope to God that this doesn't turn out to be another Thiago. I remember articles just like this from ESPN.
as far as I understand this, United reach an agreement with Kroos, which doesnt help a lot, because bayern arent really keen to sell him.
If you offer Kroos enough money, he´ll join you in a heartbeat, but you also have to convince the bayern management to sell a player, that started most of the games for two years.

Could Kross be deployed as a box-to-box midfielder? If van Gaal is to implement his preferred three man midfield I can see Mata, Kagawa, or Rooney as the number ten. With a holding player and a box-to-box midfielder accompanying one of them.

When I say we, I mean the club, or more so the media reports claiming we were confident, as per this case.

However, I admittedly did think we stood a chance of signing Fabregas. It all seemed odd and I thought there must have been some confidence that a deal could be done for it to be as public as it was. Turns out Woodward is just a big transfer muppet.

You'd prefer Gundogan, a guy who has never played here, who has been injured for the best part of a year, over Fabregas who utterly destroyed the Premier league a mere couple of years back?

At Bayern Van Gaal player with Muller as a 10 rather than forcing him into a 3-man midfield. Just a brief look at his spells at different clubs shows that he has played all sorts of formations. 3-5-2, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3, 5-3-2, he's tried them all at some point. Like many top managers he adapts the system to the players. I doubt he will shoehorn out players into a 4-3-3 when we have the best depth of talent at number 10.

If we signed Kroos he'd absolutely transform our midfield, but he will need a runner or a holder to play in a likely midfield 2.
