I'm sorry, but in real life football you simply don't get more of an overhaul of a position than replacing both current first-choice players with two of the top four in the world. Even the likes of City have never gone further than that in a single summer.

I actually haven't really gone into the thread since I came back from a recent break from the Caf. I never really grasped quite why I got banned in the first place - it seemed like everyone was discussing the tweets, and one or two were arbitrarily picked out for banning while the modmins tried to work out what the feck to do with the thread, with no warnings issued. (I must be the first person ever to think their thread-ban wasn't justified too, right?)

But tbh I'm not really a twitter person, I was only in there last summer because having avoided involvement in almost every caf transfer saga (I used to even avoid reading them back when I was an unregistered lurker, the 'Ronaldinho saga' years if you will), I got sucked into the Thiago debacle and was jonesing for updates like they were heroin.

I agree with your point about Vidal & Kroos, but i just think we need to push on further & have adequate replacements in CM & all over the pitch more importantly. We've completely neglected CM & i think we should stock up as best we can now. We wont see a spending spree like this for feck knows how long in my opinion - so i hope we rip the shit out of it & have the tag of buying trophy's - we've had tag anyway from abu's, so feck them!

Yes, and I think buying both Vidal and Kroos would qualify for 'as best we can'. Actually, I think it's probably a good deal better than we can, but time will tell.

I'm not sure about Kroos, our biggest deficiency in CM is how easy we are to run on for teams with pace and power, we simply can't cope, to that end he's slow and often looks disinterested in the defensive side of the game.

I'm just being a greedy cnut of course. We feckin deserve to be spoiled with CM's though, but if we were to spunk shitloads on atleast 3/4 CM's - you'd all be wanking yourselves into A&E & you wont be gettin any flowers from me thats for sure. I'll send in the midget-clowns to annoy the shite out of you's thats for sure. You'll have your own floor judging by this thread & the others.. :D

I dig what you're sayin man, thats why i've been championing a 3 man CM.

Carvalho in front of the back 4. Vidal as the box to box & Kroos just to hold fort in the middle. Carvalho has the potential to play box-box aswell, and Kroos loves to get forward too, so our goals from mid-field would most certainly increase dramatically. But that structure is as sweet as i can only dream off at the moment..

I've gone premature full transfer muppet for Christ sake...

Not a massive Kroos fan really, he seems quite one paced, even his passing doesn't look crisp to me.

It's his biggest strength.

Sorry but this is laughable. I doubt you regularly watch him.

Firstly you are correct in terms of the fact that I don't regularly watch him.

The point I was making was that when watching him most recently against us and against Real Madrid I was completely underwhelmed by his performances.

As bucky posted he is lauded as an excellent passer of the ball, and while he had a significant amount of the ball in dangerous areas of the pitch, ie just outside the opposition box, most of his passes seemed to be chipped out wide or sideways.

There was very little to impress.

I didn't see any cutting edge, or dynamism, anyway I will watch him with added interest over the next while.

Anyone can have his view but he was very good in Madrid where we controlled much of the ball and overall he is as good a passer of the ball as you can be imo.
Top 5 in the world surely.

He's in a team playing Guardiola-ball, so there's not much else he could do in those games where it wasn't working. Xavi looked incredibly ineffective in Barca's defeats against Bayern in 2012-13, but that hardly says anything about him as a player.

It's fascinating how many people blame Guardiola for Kroos' lack of balls. The same criticsm of safety first passing was aimed at Kroos during Heynckes' 2 years at Bayern and it's the main reason why so many Bayern fans dislike him and wouldn't mind seeing him gone. It's no coincidence either that our style last season changed from more possession based tactics to a very direct counterattacking style when Müller took his place in the middle and Robben came into the team. Kroos was always a master of retaining possession and needed someone next to him who plays the risky final pass. Guardiola publicly said at the beginning of the season, that he wants someone like Thiago in the team, because we lack that type of player. The idea that Kroos' creativity is limited through Pep's tactics is nonsense and I actually like Kroos a lot. It's just important to keep in mind what kind of player he is or some of you will be really disappointed when he comes to United.

We're keane and scholes a good partnership? Of course. They're similar players, and while kroos isn't as good, Vidal is better then Keane IMO, or around the same level. No chance we'll get both though.

I've read some strange stuff about Keane and Vieira in the last month on here but that one takes the biscuit.

That said, a Kroos-Vidal partnership would not be unlike a Scholes-Keane partnership. Kroos and Scholes quite different, Vidal and Keane somewhat different, but they'd complement each other in very similar ways.

Starting to wonder if anyone actually saw Roy Keane play or just remember his last 18 months with the club.

Or have let his pundit comments go to their heads or are just plain stupid.

He's terribly underrated in amongst the younger demographic. Loads of people under 25 will tell you he was just a 'hardman' that jumped around nailing people. His football skills don't receive the credit they deserve, in hindsight, which is ridiculous.

would Kroos-Fabregas be a good option? the speculation about Fabregas has really picked up in recent weeks.

I think that would be defensively light. They'd complement each other in terms of positioning - Kroos dictating, Fabregas creating - and they can both mix it in terms of tackling, pressing etc, but neither can really defend.

I'm not one of those who thinks we have to have an out-and-out DM, but at least one of the pair needs to be defensively gifted. A player like Vidal, for example, would work well with either of those two.

That game against Juve

But yeah, he wasn't that good; you can see it in his punditry........

Well seeing as our current midfield offers nothing defensively, I don't see what harm Fabregas-Kroos would have. Kroos is a long stronger defensively than he is given credit for, too.

Bayern fans disagree with that.
Do they? I'm pretty sure I saw @Balu state his defensive aspect of the game was sometimes underrated or understated, whilst people tend to overplay his shooting abilities.
