I do not buy the Mueller rumours at all though. Sure he might be a Van Ga fan/favourite and they may have a grand relationship, but that guy wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to Bayern Munich and he genuinely looks a player who loves that club with a passion. Find it extremely unlikely and I'm very skeptical of any claim he would be interested in a move to United.

You are right with that. But that is just one side of it. Müller never made a secret out of it that he might leave when he does not see a good perspective for him. The question just is if that time has already arrived and what does the club do when he really would decide on leaving. His agent is not the usual agent - maybe that should be added, too. He is an ex-Bayern-player which Uli Hoeneß took under his feathers when he first arrived in Munich and did all the financial stuff for him and he is an ex-teammate of Sammer in Stuttgart. He will not stir up turmoil in the Bayern camp or outside if not necessary. One thing is about sure - Müller is atleast thinking about leaving - else they would have cut the rumours short very fast as there are no contract dealings. That they do not is showing.

The club - that is a two-sided-sword. The fans already started to whistle when he was subbed in the Real Madrid match and started to sing his name - and he like everybody else was not playing well. You can predict turmoil if he stays - and there will be if he leaves. That nobody wants him to leave not even Guardiola is very clear. And he is somewhat their mascot and the one most featured. But to prolong with everybody, to maybe keep Mandzukic, the acquisation of Götze and Lewandowski etc. and especially Pep and his system do not help a player like him who is so versatile but does not have a clear position and that can backfire.

Sounds about right. Hope they aren't the only 2 signings though, someone like Kroos would really benefit with being partnered next to someone like Carvalho, add Reus and a CB to that and we're ready to go again.
Agreed, however I don't think we'll get Carvalho now :( well probably go in for Strootman which would be a more mobile option of not as exciting.

He's out for quite a while with a cruciate knee injury isn't he? I doubt we'll be going for him this summer anyway. And it said in a paper that we outlined our transfer targets we'd already looked at under Moyes with van Gaal and he agreed to them, i'm presuming that Carvalho was one of them.

Why would Strootman not be exciting? Because he is not a teenager playing in a league which hardly anyone watches? Or because he won't cost and arm and a leg?

Because hes not as powerful and unstoppable. Carvalho would be a Toure type player. Strong, smart and fast.

How much of Carvalho have you seen to compare him with a proven brilliant player like Toure? Just because he is big and strong does not make him the next Toure. Whatever little I have seen of him, he does have the mobility, passing or goal scoring ability of Toure. Not even close.

Ok

Carvalho is nothing at all like Toure other than being black and built like a truck. They're absolutely nothing at all like each other in terms of playstyle. Have you even seen Carvalho play?

Yes I have, of course I have. Admittedly he's a much deeper lying player than Toure but the characteristics of his play are similar not just his build. He has a tendency to pick a pass rather than run forwards like Toure.

Anyway either one of Strootman or Carvalho would improve our midfield 10x

They're not similar at all. You have never seen him play.

Surely the were going to bring someone in if they sell Kroos? I don't see the injury changing that.

As much as I want Kroos here, I just can't see it happening. I fear he could be using the alleged interest from us as a bargaining tool in getting a better salary in his contract at Bayern. I really don't think they'll let him go and I'm not convinced he would be willing to leave either.

If we continue to get linked with him throughout the summary I can see it going the same way as the Fabregas saga last year, unfortunately.

So he's out until end of July. Erm, and the problem is?
That both Thiago and Schweinsteiger are very injury prone whilst Kroos isn't. Makes the case for Bayern giving him a new deal even stronger. I guess we will find out soon enough, could still go either way in my opinion.

For me that Kroos transfer to United (not to anywhere else) has been over with the rumours of van Gaal coming to United. He is no van Gaal player type. I cannot tell that from something he talked about - but van Gaal did not really make him a priority at Bayern and for sure did not play him where he wanted to play. And - I just do not think that they really were on a great relationship.

No the link started under Moyes.
Edit: I think I misunderstood your point.

I don't think Bayern are stupid enough to keep Kroos if he shows no intention of signing an extension. He has all the power and controls his situation. Hopefully he chooses us, I mean if we are offering him 260k a week, then I hope an offer of that magnitude is too large to turn down.

Its not like they really need the money. They always have it if they need it. They might try and stick it to him by keeping him on the bench and only playing him in the meaningless games.

Why let him walk for free next summer when you could get 40 million plus from us? If they keep him beyond this summer, then that means they feel supremely confident that an extension is inevitable.

We wouldn't do that. That would be stupid. If we keep him for another season and let him leave on a free, we do it because he plays an important role in the plans for next year and we don't have a replacement for him.

Am I wrong in thinking Van Gaal promoted Kroos to the first team and put faith in him, suggesting he would be their DM?

Yeah, you're wrong. Kroos was on loan in Leverkusen, when van Gaal joined Bayern, and already one of the best midfielders in the league and arguably the most important player in their 24 games unbeaten run at the beginning of the 09/10 season (it looked like they had a shot at the title until they collapsed in the last 10 games as usual). Kroos came back to Bayern for van Gaal's 2nd season, was moved around a bit, playing AM, left and right winger or CM and then got injured and missed the last months of van Gaal's time at Bayern. The plan was to play Kroos and Schweinsteiger together in CM in a 4231 with Müller as the 2nd striker, but van Gaal got fired before it really happened.

Hitzfeld gave Kroos his debut in 2007, he already played around 20 games in 07/08 for Bayern long before van Gaal came around. He didn't get enough playing time when Klinsmann was in charge and went on loan to Leverkusen for 18months. If anything, Heynckes is the manager who trusted Kroos the most and built his teams around him. He did it in Leverkusen and at Bayern.

We had countless injuries after the worldcup in 2010 and Kroos played as a left midfielder for Leverkusen, so yeah he played a few times there for Bayern as well. We played games with him as AM and Müller on the right, with Müller as a 2nd striker and Kroos on the right. When both Ribery and Robben were injured, we saw a 442 a few times with Klose and Olic upfront, Kroos on the left and Müller on the right. Then we had games with a 4231 and Schweinsteiger as AM and Kroos on the left again. It was a huge mess.

Sorry to put a downer on this guys but I just don't think we'll end up signing Kroos. I can't see this one happening at all. There's no way Bayern are going to let one of their German all stars join an English team, more importantly, why would he want to?

It's like us selling Rooney or Carrick to Bayern. They're playing for the biggest team in their country, where they grew up watching football.

This one's never going to happen I'm afraid!

That would be some misplaced confidence. Can't see any reason why he'd seriously want to leave or Bayern seriously consider letting him go. It would be like us selling Rooney back in the summer of 2007.

Am I the only one who isn't really a fan of Kroos?

I don't think we'll sign him anyway.

His addition will stop us from playing the same midfield combination we had last year, which is already a tremendous improvement towards improving our team. For that reason and others, I will be become a big fan of his even though, I believe United could do with a more dynamic midfielder in their midfield.
