As I said some time ago and almost got lynched, he's simply not that good. Awful awful athlete, definitely not what we need in a midfield that will have to carry a mata at the 10.

Indykalia saying there's great news about Kroos at 4pm.

Clearly means we're never, ever getting him.

With the possibility of Carvalho and Carrick playing the holding role, we would need a more dynamic midfielder, which Kroos is not. I believe he would form a good partnership with Carvalho, but alongside Carrick, that would be a nightmare due to none of the two being an efficient ball winner.

It is laughable to say he is simply not good enough for United, because that is simply false. He would easily walk into our midfield and make it much better. The problem is finding the right balance. I.e. Kroos and Carvalho, not Kroos and Carrick or any situation that involves Kroos playing as a regista with a less mobile partner. Even though Kroos and Carvalho may not be the best we could do, it will have both players playing in a role that gets the best out of their ability.

As stated before, I would love to see a Carvalho and Strootman/Kovacic partnership, but the latter are not as noteworthy in status as Kroos. They may bring the perfect balance, but they are still learning their trade as midfielders. Kroos experience is what United need at the moment. A perfect scenario would be to have Kovacic play under Kroos and manage him like how Wenger is developing Wilshere at Arsenal.

Carvalho(Carrick) - Kroos(Kovacic)

Awful athlete?

What's that van Gaal quote about animals run, footballers use the ball...or something

Christ, are you serious? Probably been the second best midfielder in the world this season. And so weird to pick on his athleticism particularly, since that strikes me as one of the best aspects of his game. He's not fast, but he's strong, mobile, and gets through a huge amount of work. I'm not surprised you almost got 'lynched'!

Mobile? Toni kroos? Huge amount of work? Toni kroos? He's an awful athlete, you have to be blind not to see it. He's slow as feck, agile as a truck, poor stamina, can't advance the ball cause of that. All he is, is a passer and a long range shooter. Calling him dynamic would be an insult to the word.

He's no less "athletic" than Carrick, and he's done alright hasn't he?.

People are mad if you do not want a player like him in our midfield.

Scholes / Cleverley / Fletcher / Carrick all have similar mobility to him, and they've all been a mainstay in our midfield in the past few years. You need to be mentally quick for a midfield role rather than physically quick.

Don't bother. As soon as he puts in a class performance again, everyone will be crying for us to get him.

Why does being slow mean you're not athletic nowadays? And why are people calling out for a really fast CM all of a sudden, when was the last time we truly had one of those?

Fletcher ain't what you'd call quick but back at his best (admittedly, quite a few years ago) he was all over the pitch, extremely energetic player unlike the others you have mentioned.

I think he would do well for United. What's the point of having an extremely mobile player if we can't even get the basics right, which is keeping possession of the ball?

Wow, you got away with that one - capital crime calling Mata, a passenger. ;)

Didn't know Gary Neville had a Caf account. I guess the username gives it away.

Wait, so you've got problem with him not being mobile / agile / fast enough and don't want him, meanwhile you say to break the bank for Javi Martinez in his thread?

A Gary Neville soundbite that too many clowns have taken too seriously. Central midfielders never have and never will need to be speedsters. Mobility is an issue in a general sense, however, with the right balance then it's never really crippling. Kroos himself can run and excel in a dynamic football team, as proven.

Have you seen javi play? He's a tireless worker, an expert tackler and reads the game lke a book. When you have those qualities there's really no need for you to be quick plus he's a more defensive midfielder. He's also extremely good in the air.

Scholes has always been mobile and very agile untill his latter years. Even then he coud still advance our play with some great give and takes. Carrick's reading of the game has always made up for the athlete he is, in truth probably no other midfielder reads the game like him in world football. Fletcher has/had energy for days, looked like he was two men in his pomp, cleverley is double the athlete kroos is even though he's garbage. Kroos is like a brick in the middle of the field that gets the ball and passes it around. If the opposition get the chance to go through him, they will cause he'll offer no resistence. He's not creative/skillful enough to play as a 10 and he's a liability in midfield when he doesn't have space or has to defend. I see no reason to sign him.

He's simply not dynamic enough for us. We aren't going to start playing like barca/bayern any time soon so why bother? Let's go out there and find ourselevels a midfielder that'll suit us and the league instead of him.

Someone also made it sound like I said he isn't good enough for us, he is. In truth which midfielder isn't? We have an over the hill carrick, a sicknote, someone that's not good enough for club, a 40 year old winger/coach, a defender and sometimes our striker in there. That's not good enough reason because surely our aim shouldn't be to improve our team by getting better than what we have, but to get players that'll get us back our elite team status again. We're man united after all.

Let's get in martinez and kovacic. Both dynamic, get through a lot of work, one cna advance play single handedly and the other is a defensive monster in the middle of the park. Remember when was the last time we had that? Yeah, I miss those days too.

It's really not about pace for a CM. Atletico play 2 of Tiago, Gabi and Mario Suarez as their CM's and none of them are anywhere near pacey, though Gabi is reasonably quick over short distances, like a lot of smaller CM's.

Kroos seems like he'd thrive in a 4-3-3 (or 3-5-2) as the deepest CM, playmaking a la Pirlo. Maybe:

Welbeck-9--Mata
---CM---Fellaini
------Kroos--

would work?

I think he'd be better as one of the two in front. Switch him with Fellaini.

Kroos is such a good passer and he looked a bit slow on the turn, so I think freeing him up to get on the ball makes more sense, no?

For you United fans: Kicker reporting that Moyes was the one behind a transfer wish and United didnt offer anything till today.

I see. This would surprise me, as we need a central midfielder that can dictate and pass the ball into the forwards.
