I've soured on Kroos a bit. He's does seem rather static and timid at times despite the 90 % pass ratings. Watching Modric run the show tonight IMO we should target this goat instead.

That pace, that skill, that dribbling in our midfield..:drool::drool:

you watch a lot of Italian football?

how does he compare to Miralem Pjanić?

Still not seeing it with him. I really don't think he's anything special.

And for those raving about his passing - I think it's just been too long since you saw a real passing master in action.

His passing is excellent, it's raved about for good reason.

Surely with the right players beside him, he'd fit perfectly.
If lets say we bought Reus and Carvalho to play in the same team, it would give us a perfect mix I would think.
Sitting next to carvalho, he would have the freedom of midfield. In front of him would be Mata, and out wide would be Reus. He could ping in anywhere he wanted

Great passer that lad but he has no pace. For the 3rd goal I cant help but feel that he was lazy in tracking back, either that or he cant really run.
Cleverly would have put more into getting back to at least challenge Bale. They were saying United can't get him - I'd say no, United don't want him.

He's been a victim of the system Pep has put out over the two legs. Kroos is a top drawer talent and has a superb range of passing and can shoot very well with both feet. He's in the top bracket of world midfielders and is only 24. If you've watched him play consistently, you cannot doubt his quality for a second. He is exactly what we need.

Whether we get him or not, hopefully some people will finally stop saying he is as good as Paul Scholes. I always found that to be total nonsense.

Has anyone said he is as good as Paul Scholes? Or that he just reminds them of Scholes? The first is madness at this stage of his career, the second is reasonable.

But making a definitive judgment on a player off the basis of one game is equally bonkers to be honest. It's a bit hard to tell how good this lad will be. At 24 Scholes was just getting used to a midfield role.

Hmm that's an interesting comparison. TBH It's difficult to compare them right now. Pjanic is further along in his development. Kovacic is just 19 right now but has an almost infinite ceiling. Many people say that he's a better talent that Modric or even Boban, who played at Milan and is arguably one of Croatia's best players ever. Pjanic is more of a laid back kind of playmaker, he sits deep while De Rossi/ Strootman/ Naingollan recycle the ball and his distribution is very good. He's excellent from set pieces but he's a bit physically weak and might not suit the Premier League. Kovacic is a much more physical and explosive player with better dribbling and ball skills because he was formerly an attacking midfielder but as of of he doesn't have a set position - he's often been used in central midfield for Inter or further forward. People have likened him to a mixture of Pirlo (because of his impressive passing and vision - 90% pass completion) and Seedorf (because of his work ethic and endless motor) which is very high praise indeed. I think if developed well in 2 or 3 years Kovacic will easily overtake Pjanic, Modric or Rakitic. He's been misused a lot at Inter and been frequently benched this season. IMO it's an excellent opportunity for us to sign him while he's still a bit under the radar. As someone mentioned above one good World Cup and his market value will skyrocket as other clubs get involved - Brenton has already expressed interest after Coutinho's success. I don't know if United is following him right now but Sir Alex was interested in him during his Zagreb days. Reckon if we put a bid in the range of 20-25 million Inter will find it hard to turn down. And we might have found the solution to one half of our midfield problems for the next 10-15 years. :)

Kroos is not and will never be as good as Scholes. He'll be a good player, but no Scholes.

I don't know enough about this lad to judge off this video but I definitely feel we need a CM of this type, one that has a couple of extra gears and can drive the ball out of midfield, relieve the pressure and turn the opposition around. Having two slowish CM's standing practically square of each other has been our problem for a while, it's why Carrick has been best over the last 3 seasons when partnered with Giggs and to a much lesser extent Anderson.

Whos better would you say?

If Van Gaal comes and he still rates Kroos who he brought back to Bayern then I can see us pursuing him. As for Kovacic him and Januzaj running at defenses excites me in ways it probably shouldnt

I haven't agreed to let you join in. Kovaciç is mine, you can watch.
Bish plz. Get in line. :p

And you!

The main reason I've had an interest in Ancelotti is that there is a chance that his knowledge of the Italian league may mean he is interested in Kov.

Guardiola wasn't impressed with him either. Said that that they only had Schweinsteiger in midfield and you can't control them like that

Would love him at united. This guy if he continues developing is sure to be a world beater. He would be available on the cheap now from Inter. Get him before he shines in the world cup alongside Modric.

Yeah that dribbling would have him losing the ball every time he touched it in the Prem.

I was thinking that. We need someone in the midfield who can drive with the ball. As good as Kroos is, he doesn't really dribble with the ball, even when there's bags of room ahead of him.

I watched Ramsey for Arsenal yesterday and everytime he had space ahead of him he ran into it. By doing this, he commit players to him, thus creating more space for his team mates. This is why, over the last few years, I thought some of our best football come in 11/12 when Anderson was in our midfield. He give us the drive in midfield we've been lacking of late.

Based on that, I would opt for someone like Rakitic. I'm not to familiar with Kovacic, although i've heard he's a good player, and like Rakitic, he'd certainly give us the drive in midfield.

What's Kovacic's situation at Inter? I heard it was similar to Mata's at Chelsea. If we can get a cut price deal, that would be right up the Glazers' street.

Having watched him in the CL for the last 4 matches or so I feel like I can safely say that I wish Ilkay Gundogan was fit. I would prefer him over Kroos in our midfield as I feel that hes a better all round player but alas his injury is concerning so we cant risk it. I dont know what other options we have for the creative CM role tbh perhaps Rakitic but I need to see him actually play in CM to pass judgement.

With so many great players linked to United I wonder where VG is planning to fit Fellaini in.

The more I watch him play the less excited I feel about him as a potential signing. I feel the one thing we're most lacking in midfield is genuine dynamism. Kroos has his pretty passing percentages but he just seems a little static and slow - I feel our midfield will yet again get overrun with him in the fray. We need a more Vidal or Carvalho type midfielder. Heck I'd rather pay the quoted £40million for Fabregas to be fair (and I don't really want him).

If you want a player that controls games, starts off plays, looks for the pass just before the final ball, contrs the tiempo and has similair passing ranges as Scholes, then Kroos is your man. Do I hear any complaints about Scholes?

Listen, Kroos gets orders from Pep and he always does his job. Pep just tells him to pass to feet 5 yards away basically. You can't blame Kroos for doing his Job.

Kroos used to be a no.10, now he is a deep lying midfielder. That is what we want, along side a midfielder to the ilk of Fabregas( attacking midfielders).

People talk about Kovacic, he had nowhere near the vision and quality Kroos has.

People say Kroos is immobile?! What us he suppised to do when there are 10 men behind the ball, run around in circles to look mobile?! Also, he may SEEN immobile when he has the fastes counter attacking team in the world in the form og Ronaldo, Benzema, Di Maria and Bale just swarming you midfield.

For me depends on who we get also. Its about partnerships and who compliments peoples play. He's a quality neat player, who generally doesn't give a pass away. I think he's a younger Carrick. I can see him leaving BM, cause they have that quality in midfield anyway, and he doesn't warrant the money the match winners are receiving in that side. He's not at that statue.

His pace is the biggest concern for me, and seems more suited to those teams who play possession football. If we are searching for a Toure type player Progba and Carvalho are the closet (not close) at present.

Still not convinced he's what we need at all.

We need more than 1 CM. A Kroos type player alongside a more dynamic ala Vidal would be perfect.

But yes, if we can only get one, a Vidal should be a priority, not a Kroos.

Wasnt really impressed with both leagues or the two ties against us. However i feel he is not suited to tikka taka, a more dynamic style would be better for him.

Bale distroyed him at one point though.

Vidal isn't a genuine option sadly.

The problem in midfield is twofold - we don't create or control the game enough from deep positions and we have no genuine defensive player.

Kroos is one of the best deep lying playmakers around and Carvalho is a promising holding player. Both would be fantastic additions and would probably be brilliant as a pair.

A vidal. I meant a player of his ilk. Energetic box to box player. Tough to find these days though with the focus so heavily on specialized roles in a 3 man midfield.
