Pep was asked about Kroos during his PC today and he said:

[Rummenigge and Sammer] will do everything to keep Toni here. But it is up to Toni. He is a young person, it is his decision.

So they would be willing to let him go if he was wants to leave? But it seems they haven't given up on him yet.

Maybe it's not the exact same people from the other day.

I can't be bothered to check, but the reason I commented was because I thought I remembered a couple of the people saying that and now treating Jackson's new article with credence.

For what it's worth I don't recall Jackson being as trustworthy as some of the other north west journo's and I think this looks like the Fabregas deal. Minus the admission of interest from Moyes. I wouldn't put money on this happening if the odds were 83.9/1

Weren't people saying a few days ago that Jackson talks a load of shite? Now that he's reported something good his word is gospel again...
Ah, I see where you went wrong here. You got reality confused with not reality.

That we know of: Hazard, the Brazilian who went to PSG, Ozil, Benzema, ...
The players that you named Ferguson dropped out of the hunt when pricetags became inflated. Ferguson knew all about paying for unproven talent. That's why we considered RVP a bargain at 24 mil. Moura had a similar price tag if I'm not mistaken. Unproven.

Bayern are paying reasonable wages. There's a big difference between splashing the cash on transfer fees and smashing a wage structure to pieces.

Bayern have the luxury of being able too pay "reasonable wages" because they're very successful at this moment in time. Despite this - and this illustrates the point - they might realistically lose a first team regular in Kroos to a club not even playing in the Champions League next season because said club value him more than they do and will be able to offer him vastly more wages.

What you're advocating is running the club like Bayern it seems. Fine - great idea, I'm sure every club would love to do that. Unfortunately we don't have 1) a youth system churning through player after player year after year, or 2) the monopoly to buy pretty much any player from any club in our domestic league. So - how realistic is it that we can run the club like Bayern do taking that into account?

Based on that, and looking at other successful European clubs and the money they spend too stay competitive, then I'd say we haven't got a lot of choice.

People may not like it, and it may be unpalatable but modern football is all about money. Its a noble suggestion that clubs should try to be successful without spending huge sums but in my opinion, it simply isn't realistic. Even if you find a manager who can work miracles year after year on a shoestring budget - how long before someone offers him mega money to move on?

As regards wage structure - assuming the figures quoted here are right, and not just speculation, Wayne Rooney is already on more than that. The vast majority of the big clubs have a few players on big money.

We need to be able to compete for the best players. The club evidently has the money to do it. If not we can expect other clubs around Europe to leave us well behind. We'll be trying to develop the Anderson's and Ashley Young's into superstars while the City's of the world will be buying the Yaya Toure's and Sergio Aguero's.

Why would a young player trying to develop their career join a team in decline led by a manager who has no track record of developing any youth players into world stars. It would take a monkey of an advisor / agent to suggest it. Plus, why would you do that when your already at the top club team led by best manager. Bayern will offer him a contract end of the season and he'll stay there.

I don't recall the exact quote, but Sir Alex always claimed that there was a transfer price for other teams and a 'Manchester United price.' If we buy anyone its always going to be over the odds.

Or we could simply try and build steadily rather than panicking and giving someone double the money they are worth. No top team got to where they were by panic buying. They were all ruthless in pursuit but never to the point of desperation. Most got to the top by steadily building, introducing one or two top players a year.

When did I ever say that he would be a waste of money? Or when did I indicate that I didn't rate the player. What I said that he is a very good player that would add alot to our game but he isn't worth THAT kind of money. Something most Bayern Munich fans would agree on but I'm sure you know much more about Kroos than many Bayern Munich season ticket holders.

Yes, the club needs to be succesful but Kroos should be simply an option to us fixing a glaring problem, which is indeed a necessity that needs to be fixed.

Bayern spent 30m plus on 2 players in their entire history. Martinez, who had to take a wage cut in order for Bayern to pay his transfer buy out clause and Götze, who is still seen as a bargain. Yes, they made Lewandowski a good offer, but nothing that is extraordinary. Lewandowski could've earned more at Madrid.

What I want is a manager that has a plan for this team and has a number of players that could help to achieve that. Not a transfer muppet that simply goes for the best in every position and throws silly money at them.

Yes Manchester United is generating a lot of money, but sadly most of it will go to the Glazers and that's something we have to deal with. We have a budget and I don't want Moyes to overpay on every damn transfer target we have and the next manager can't afford his targets.

I don't understand fans fussing over fees/wages. If he is the right player and the club deem him worthy of the money quoted (and given that this whole suggestion is from twitter its clearly questionable) then that's fine by me.

And you're making more assumptions. Perhaps he is only an "option"? Maybe he isn't even our number one target and its all speculation? You don't know what the club are doing in behind the scenes more than anyone else. The whole thing may be rubbish.

The bolded comment is utterly bizzare - as if we've reached some new "galactico" era where the club will go out and try to sign the world's best XI. What is this based upon exactly? The speculation in the papers that we're targeting every midfielder going? Maaybe you should try not to believe every thing you read in the paper or on the internet.

The fact is the club will evidently continue too try and bring in younger, or value players if they feel its the way to go. The likes of Shaw, Coleman and perhaps Lallana are realistic targets who could be long term fixtures. We also need an immediate injection of quality, and mixing the two is in my opinion the way forward.

Seems to me that you starting from the position that you don't rate Moyes (which is fair enough) and letting it colour your view of everything else. I'll ask you a question - if we sacked Moyes, appointed another manager, and he bought Kroos or some other top class player would you still think it was a bad move? Or would you, like most fans be happy that we've signed a top player who's likely to improve us going forward?

They were all ruthless in pursuit but never to the point of desperation. Most got to the top by steadily building, introducing one or two top players a year.

So you'd be happy if we build steadily but don't make the Champions League next year, or the season after? Maybe have a tilt at the title in 2017? I suspect a lot of fans, and certainly the owners wouldn't.

Its not panic stations yet. Our top players and those who we may be able to attract will likely see not being in the CL this year as a blip. But if that goes on for a few years we'll lose our top players, a significant amount of income and a lot of the money that the sponsorship deals bring in. Where that leaves is, god only knows, because other clubs have had to spend hundreds of millions to break into the elite - far more than we'll need to spend this summer to arrest the slide.

Because some players' motives and ambitions lie further than just being "part of a great system". None of us know Kroos personally so we wouldn't have a clue what he desires truly, but if he wants to be top dog at a club, he's got more chance at doing it at United where they are looking heavily to rebuild their midfield, rather than in an established one where he is fighting for spots with 3 or 4 brilliant midfielders. Some players thrive off being the main man, and in a team with the likes of Ribery, Robben and Schweinsteiger along with the emergence of the younger players in Muller, Thiago and Gotze, he may have far greater desire to be the CM of United for the next 5-10 years.

Secondly, the wages have been discussed as a key point: He has been in this Bayern squad for a few years now, yet they sign a player 3 years younger and give him double salaries. If you were in a job for 3 or 4 years, and the company hired a person younger than you for half the salary, would you smile at them and say " hey that's great news, don't worry about my salary going up or being similar, I'm fine just the way it is"? Like feck you would; you would want at least the same as him, considering these two are on the same level of talent at this stage for me, with Kroos being much better this season. Then you get United offering even more than what your club is offering, being the highest earner at the club (joint with Rooney) and one of the highest in the world? Yeah, what sort of monkey would do that.

He's not exactly a kid anymore, he's 24. To say he would need developing by a manager implies he isn't quite there at a top level yet, but the fact of the matter is that he is. He is one of the top CMs at 24, and even if this was his peak level then it's a bloody good peak to have still. On the contract part; isn't it a bit odd that they keep saying that the board will "try their best to keep hold of Toni" for almost 8 months now, since the summer transfer? Surely if he wanted to stay so bad, and they wanted to give him what he wants so bad, then they would have offered him a deal and he would have signed by now?

I'm not saying he will definitely sign for us, not by a long shot. But people being so adamant he won't sign because of the whole "Bayern and Pep are perfect" idea may be surprised if he does choose to leave, because some players' ambition run differently from one another.

That we know of: Hazard, the Brazilian who went to PSG, Ozil, Benzema, ...

Hazard was a very talented youngster. Lucas had never played in Europe and was again a very talented kid who we were after. Both of them were like the Ronaldo chase for us. Benzema was an excellent striker and yes we did go for him. Ozil, there has been no confirmation we were ever even interested.

I was talking about world class players. The likes of Fabregas and Kroos. The ones that we are chasing and who are proven at the top level. I don't remember Fergie going for many of those types in his latter years. He did go after RvP and got him. The only other established top class player I can think of who we went for and did not get in the last few years was Sneijder.

The vibe I've always been getting from reading quotes on the Bayern side is that Kroos is a good player and they are happy to keep him but if he demands wages that they are not comfortable giving, he won't be an irreplaceable loss to them.

I feel as if it's going to be one of those "I'll decide my future after the world cup is over bla bla need to concentrate"
We'll sit around for weeks like little girls and then he'll stay at Bayern. Or end up at Chelsea to replace Lampard. either way he won't end up here in my opinion which is a shame.

World class players rarely move from club to club at their peak. Hazard needed one year before he reached a level which can be regarded as 'world class'. That is probably the closest you will get to clubs signing world class players. At the time, Hazard really wasn't. It was clear he would become a world class player though. How many PL teams sign ready made world class players? Arsenal signed one in Ozil. We signed one in RVP. City signed Silva and Aguero. You could argue Chelsea haven't in recent years. How many players are signed and develop into world class players? Quite a few in each of these squads. De Gea, Hazard, Kompany, Koscielny, Suarez etc.

that is what the club has said more or less. With the money we have supposedly offered we will get him it looks like.

It does seem a little like picking the player we're least likely to be able to sign. He's at the best club in the world at the moment, and this season he's been as central to their success as anyone, flying in the face of predictions in the summer that he would be the one to suffer from Thiago's arrival.

I can't think of many players in world football who'd be a better solution to our midfield issues, but I also can't think of many who we're less likely to be able to get.

Rummenige and Sammer have also said that they will do everything to keep him st Bayern.

Edit: Ah damn, Mel beat me to it!

If not Kroos then I really think we should go in for Rakitic. I just hope we have more than one player on the shortlist for each position!

if Bayern are so confident why are they insisting on him being there. Just say nothing and make us look silly. Kroos wants a lot more money than they are willing to pay. The wages we can offer will simply be more than double. All we have to do is agree the fee with Bayern.

Yeah, this one would appear dead.

They'd rather he leave on a free transfer or they think he's bluffing?

Being brutally honest, why would he want to move here? A new challenge? He can get that at Chelsea, Real etc.
More money? When it comes down to it, I think he will accept a Bayern offer when they raise it a bit and that will be that. Bayern can't know this for sure, neither will Kroos' agent make this clear to them. However, they have probably seen most cases of contract negotiations before and understand the situation perfectly. If he wasn't going to sign a contract, they'd sell him, surely?

Calm down man, it wasn't a personal attack.

First off, if United are willing to give him the same wages as Rooney there is something seriously wrong. He isn't Fabregas. 300 grand is a lot to give someone if you don't even know if they could play in the premiership or not. So I doubt that's ever going to happen. If it does I will seriously question Moyes and Woodwards ability to make sound transfer decisions. I would rather they paid 300,000 a year to entice a Yaya Toure, Swiensteiger (I think that's how you spell it) or someone that's a finished article. 300,000 a week is crazy money for a player like Kroos.

The point you made about the younger player is a good one, but.. Kroos is up for a contract renewal soon, and who knows what Bayern will offer him. As the old saying goes, if its not broke don't try to fix it. The contract Kroos is on is probably an old one. And Bayern saying "will try their best" means, if he demands the cash, we'll give him what's reasonable for a player of his stature. I'm sure Guardiola sees him as a natural successor for Bayern in midfield anyway.

And I never said Bayern and Pep are perfect.. just a lot more perfect than what United are offering.. at the minute. I think we will sign a midfielder, but an established one, like a Strootman. Not a youngster who has yet to really prove he is capable at the highest level.

The vibe I've always been getting from reading quotes on the Bayern side is that Kroos is a good player and they are happy to keep him but if he demands wages that they are not comfortable giving, he won't be an irreplaceable loss to them.

Same as that. He wont be an irreplaceable player at all. But if he becomes available, there will be more than United in the hunt, and the rest will pay more. I can see an Essien style battle coming about for his signature, should he become available..

We're going to end up with fcuk all this summer, aren't we?

Looks unlikely. That happens only when we get our hopes high. This time I am not at all excited by the prospect of new signings because I can see what dross will be served on the pitch next season irrespective of the players we bring in.

I really don't see any players of a very high caliber agreeing to sign with United as long as Moyes is manager. Sure, we'll get young prospects and a few aging stars. But a world class player enetering his prime? No fukking chance.

Fix the manager problem first, then spray your jizz over players like Kroos.

I think you're wrong there, I think we will sign some top class players in the Summer if Moyes is still there. We'll see who's right by the end of August. According to reports this morning, deals have been or are on the point of being agreed for Shaw and Carvalho. I hope that's true.

That is a thought process based more in emotion than reality. Hazard joined a manager-less Chelsea. Hughes attracted big players as well. If players don't come it will not be because of Moyes.

Is this a serious post ? We just signed Juan Mata.
