It's a crazy wage but the sad truth is that with Moyes in charge and no CL football, that's what we're going to have to resort to to get players here now, just like City, PSG etc do.

I'm behind a proxy at my work so can't see the twitter feed but is this from the Guardian? I read an article on there this morning stating we are offering him £260,000 a week to join United. I say pay it. He is a top, top player and if Rooney is on £300,000 per week, Kroos is worth the £260,000 per week, certainly for the creative side from a deep lying position he brings to the side.

Obviously Moyes doesn't have the same pulling power but do you believe Sir Alex could've brought in someone like Kroos on anything other than crazy wages? I wouldn't exactly consider him available, so it would take something really special to lure him away.

Just saw this and I don't really know what to think about it. First thought is - is he worth such a wage? But then I think - do I really care about how much the players are paid? I don't think I do.

So in short - It's a ludicrous wage but I couldn't give a shite. Sign him if possible.

Yea man. While the wage of our modern footballer is becoming more & more audacious, it's not our own perogative to establish a 'reasonable' wage for future signings.

This link just will not go away. If this is at all possible, I concur with you. Sign him up asap!

Considering we'd still be challenging for the title and in the CL next season, I don't think the wages would be as crazy. Obviously we'd have to put him in the upper tier though. 260k a week is insane money.

Im really surprised Jamie Jackson still thinks Rooney is on 300k when we all know he is more on 260k like were offering Kroos.

I say pay it, but to be honest with you I dont think the money is the issue here, we will obviously outpay Bayern, but will he want to come, he could probably be tempted to stay at Bayern for about 120k.

Yes, Telegraph has reported that Rooney isn't on a flat 300k/week. He's on 200+k/week with the extra money coming from sponsorships. It's a new type of deal that United are going to give out to the top players as it takes advantage of United's commercial powers, and the club doesn't have to pay as much money.

I'm going to assume that Kroos won't be on a flat 260k/week, but lesser base rate + bonuses/sponsorship money.

Just read it on the Guardians website. Crazy stuff, it seems Moyes really means business.
Most Bayern fans would agree he is good, but not 260k/week good. But then most Bayern fans thought Thiago was a bit surplus to demands, and now that he's not available everyone is seeing that as a loss.

The guardian article thinks the Sebastian Rode (from Frankfurt) deal is an indicator that Kroos might be leaving. The Rode deal was done before the season started/Pep arrived and whatever Rode is, a Kroos replacement he isn't. Rode, according to many observers, may not be able to be up to fulfill Peps vision of a midfielder in terms of technique and quickness and will go the way of Kirchhoff.

Kroos isn't anywhere near as marketable as Rooney. Most of what we'll supposedly pay him will have to be directly borne by the club.

I'm a bit bemused by this notion of "the pulling power" of Fergie. I don't remember us signing any top players in the last few years just because Fergie was in charge. People will probably quote RVP but the pulling power was Utd's ability to win things rather than Fergie.

Problem is Kroos is not the only player we need. If we end up signing him for something like that, we will be taken to the cleaners by other players we are interested in as well. Maybe Moyes does not finalize these wages but I am sure he has an input in them. He seems to have gone crazy. Offering 125k/week to Fellaini was insane.

Jamie Jackson isn't reliable at all so I'd take his article with a massive pinch of salt.

True. But either way, whenever papers report the wages that a player is on, it's not their base rate. The figure reported is always including bonuses. £260k/week sounds obscene but the club probably only has to pay that if Kroos scores and assists a goal every week.

United were serial winners because of Fergie, so I do not understand why would you separate him from the pulling power. RvP knew that with Fergie in charge, United will be there or thereabouts and thus he chose us.

Moyes has done a lot wrong here, transfers being a major one of those. He's gone from a very shrewd operator at Everton to a "OMG I've lots of money now, erm, who's the best in the world in this position? Get me him, Ed, I don't care how unattainable he is!", or, failing that, buy someone for an extortionate amount from his old club.

Pretty much seems like how we have operated. Where is all that smart buying from Moyes for which he was renowned? It's like we brought a person here for some qualities and principles he had and he seems to have abandoned them the moment he enters the club instead of building on them.

In fairness that only happened once...

I don't think Fellaini is on those wages. Moreover, I think that the fact that we're now willing to pay top wages is actually a good thing.

he tried to get Baines too, and his main target last summer was the completely unattainable Fabregas, and his supposed targets this summer are Kroos and Vidal. We're talking about a man renowned for his meticulous scouting system and careful selections of targets at Everton and yet right now he is running around like a headless chicken supposedly just trying to chuck extortionate fees and wages at the best midfielders in Europe.

I also did not think he was on that much till some on here posted article with those figures. May not be true but we have nothing else to go on.

About us paying top wages, it's a good thing if we are smart and shrewd with it. We cannot go out handing such wages to anyone who we want. This will have a cascading effect. Other top players will want parity with the highest earners and it could seriously see us in trouble moving forward.

As far as our midfield is concerned, this approach he's taking might actually be a good thing. Obviously, only if he manages to get these top names...

I know how the deals work and I know what's been reported, my point was that we don't 'know' any of the figures.

I can see where you're coming from but I think he knows he can't risks and he needs world class players to help him along. Maybe after he wins something he will go back to find the sort of players he did at Everton.

I wish that the Baines transfer had came to fruition instead of Fellaini. :( Moyes was clearly right in trying to address that area of the pitch. Which most, including me, questioned at the time.

Not to be a negative gimp, but I hope he's not here this summer to be afforded the privilege of spending such ridiculous chunks on players in the first place.

I agree with that. For me he has earn it and he hasn't. But I think he'll be here, so lets hope he gets it right.

Well we would be very concerned if he adopted the same approach he used at Everton at United. Most people would agree we need some top quality in the central midfield and he has tried to do that. Unsuccessfully in the summer yes but we are, finally, trying to replace Paul Scholes after all. If he tries to bring in one of these superstars in every position maybe we should be concerned, yes.

I just want a manager that doesn't need that kind of money to be succesful. I mean look at City and Mancini, after spending ridiculous amounts of money even he managed to win the league. Moyes is doing all the things that we didn't want from the succesor to SAF. Kroos is a great player and if he wants to come for better wages than at Bayern Munich we should welcome him with open arms, but more than 180-200k is pure madness.

This season and next summer is not really the time to try and fix our central midfield by picking up bargains signings with a view to the long-term. Moyes has decided (along with every United fan I know) that we badly need at least one really world class central midfielder. That's inevitably going to involve sniffing round the highest profile players out there.

The quality of his scouting network can only be judged by whatever other transfer punts we have made since Moyes took over. Lesser known player with potential. Them and the youth players entering our academy in the last 6 months. Does anyone know if any player currently at United ticks either of these boxes?

Feck it, I'm going to give this one my muppet signing for the summer stamp of approval. The media have been lapping this up for a while now, and the noise won't go away.

Just saw this and I don't really know what to think about it. First thought is - is he worth such a wage? But then I think - do I really care about how much the players are paid? I don't think I do.

So in short - It's a ludicrous wage but I couldn't give a shite. Sign him if possible.

Interesting if true. I suspect he never had any intention of leaving Bayern initially. That will change if he's being offered anywhere near that. He can either get that this summer if he can force a move, or pick up a massive wage when he moves on a free.

One thing is certain, if we have offered that sort of cash then we have a good chance of him being here next year. Also, suggests we can compete for the top players as promised.

I don't think he would be given a bucket full every summer. Don't think many would disagree that we need to refresh our squad this summer. A few critical areas of the pitch need quality reinforcements, and they don't come cheap these days. Think the upcoming transfer window will be one off, after which things would go back to the way they were (accounting player inflation, of course). After this summer, I expect us to follow the same policy of academy players, young prospects and a world class addition or two whenever needed.

How many managers are there like that? All of the top managers want the best players in their side and its no coincidence that the clubs with the best players usually win the trophies at the end of the season.

Klopp, Mourinho or whomever else would want to be backed in the transfer market to give themselves as a good a chance of success as possible. There's nothing wrong with that.

Sorry, perhaps I'm not being clear.

I agree we need to go for the upper echelon of midfielders, nae doubt abewt tha', the problem I have is that he is just going for really, really obvious targets. I mean Fabregas last summer was an utterly pointless pursuit especially as we apparently didn't even approach Thiago, supposedly because Moyes was worried about him settling in here due to his age (madness), it was as if he went "err, who's the best midfielder out there, Ed? Go for him!" Now we appear to be doing the exact same thing, like Vidal (unattainable) and Kroos (longshot). I want us to get top midfielders but we need a bit of realism here too, we don't want a repeat of last summer, go all out for the best possible players, fail miserably and end up having to get a very mediocre backup.

The thing is, if we don't at least try all we can to get these sort of player then fans will be upset we never tried in the first place. I don't see much harm in this if we have good backup targets.

Mata was generally regarded as unattainable by most here, especially given the interest in Rooney from Chelsea.it became apparent that in n the background he was angling for the move to United if I remember correctly. Kroos could be a similar sort of situation. I'm not sure us showing interest in him can ever be a bad thing, even if he doesn't end up coming. It surely better than spanking 100 million on players just below his grade like spurs did.

mata was different though because Chelsea weren't playing him (Kroos has played most Bayern games), Mourinho didn't want him (Pep has repeatedly said he wants to keep Kroos), it's a world cup year etc. If it really comes down to it and Bayern offer Kroos the big new contract he wants, we can't get him, simple as that.

It's crazy. Our whole wage structure is being destroyed by Moyes. Now we have to do it because we are not in the CL. But who is to blame for this? Once we start offering everyone around 250 k we will be in big trouble soon enough. Yes, SAF broke our wage structure to keep Rooney, but then we needed him. I like Rooney but I am nowhere close to some of his fanbois who think Rooney can do no wrong and think we should now even sell RvP. Still, ppl can think whatever they want about the trio Ronaldo/Rooney/Tevez and argue all about how good or important each of those have been for us. but the simple truth is that while both of them left in 2009, Rooney is still here. I didn't like his tranfers antics/requests/whatever at all, but that's what top players do. Kroos is after all doing the same to Bayern but I am sure we will welcome him with open arms and won't call him a mercenary if he joins us, right?

Another thing, what's this about "If Rooney is worth x amount, Kroos is worth that, too". How so? Rooney is one of our best players, has been with us for 10 years, was our only world class player since Ronaldo and Tevez left (what I have said above basically) and until RvP joined us, helped us to keep us at the top during that period, is our most marketable player and being British that won't change. Ppl might not like it, but having such a marketable English player playing for Englands most famous club can't be underestimated at all. He makes us a lot of money. You could only compare Gerrard/Liverpool and Lampard/Chelsea to that marketing potential in the PL, but even then Rooney probably wins. Also the current contract is Rooney's last one on that wages, whereas Kroos in 24 now and hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet. If he is holding out for an improved contract now with Bayern, what tells us he won't do the same with us in a couple of years? So if we offer him 260 k now, what if he demands 320 k when he is 26/27?

Fellaini on 120 k or wahtever is even more annoying. Incredible how the club has put us into that desperate position that now we have to offer everyone huge wages. Without CL we sadly don't have a choice now, but we wouldn't be in that position without Moyes. I am all for giving top talents enough money, but if we start throwing around 250 k to everyone decent who joins us, then this will put us into a very dangerous situation regarding renogotiating contracts with current players, contract negotiations with new signings and getting rid of players eventually (We will end up like City who were still paying Adebayor's or Santa Cruz's wages for example long after they moved to other clubs).

Is it my money? No!
Am I worried? For sure! I am not sure we will increase our revenues as long as Moyes is here and I really don't believe we will make top 4 next season with him so no CL money again! I know we have lots of sponsors and the Chevrolet/Nike deals, but we have enormous costs as well and I for sure don't want our debt to increase now. Moyes has already done enough damage, now all we need is our debt going up because of his defeciencies!
