Jupp Heynckes: "I spoke with Toni. If he takes my words seriously, he will stay. He won't find something like Bayern anywhere else in Europe at the moment. He would be well advised to extend. The club made him a good offer."

Considering Heynckes was his mentor at Leverkusen and Bayern his words might have significant influence on Kroos.

I'm not saying we should sign rubbish players. Chicharito was a pretty instant injection of quality in 2010. Vidic was pretty good in 2006 too, even if Evra had a tough start to his United career.

Plus, as I said, look at a side like Porto. They have a bunch of players who I think would easily get into our side.

Wouldn't it be better to scout those players and sign them before they go to Porto? Rather than end up being quoted three of four times the price they paid for those guys? Say we wanted to buy Steven Defour from Porto now? How much would we have to pay? And nobody can tell me Defour aint better than Fellaini.

Porto is signing a ridiculous amount of players each year (usually Spanish/Portuguese speaking). They have a good scouting system but its more about quantity than quality. It would be impossible to replicate this for any club, that wants to compete for the CL. They have also a big advantage regarding language; english or german clubs couldnt do the same.

Well Dortmund have no problems picking up relatively low profile players. Also United have had few problems recruiting from Latin America and Iberia, we got Rafa and Fabio when they were still kids, Ronaldo, Nani, Ando as teens etc.

I don't buy the excuse that just because we don't speak Spanish or Portuguese we can't be in that market. How come so many Latinos end up in Holland, where it's basically cold and flat?

the other thing is, United need to make a statement of intent with a big name signing. Get one in and it encourages others to join. Go for mid-table players and you'll be signing them for years, ala Liverpool

This! It's a statement of intent from club. This is one transfer window where we should over spend if we must to get the players the manager wants or we risk being going further behind other clubs. We're already behind other teams as it is and I would imagine they will improve again in the summer, so we're not only playing catch-up here but we need to get ahead too.

I say we pay the high wages and agent fees if we must, but we can't go for mid-table players anymore, isn't that what got us here in the first place?

As much as another £100k a week on a 5 year contract? I personally doubt it.

Leaving Bayern is a step down. That's obvious to anyone, but money talks and he can perhaps sign here or move on a free elsewhere for life changing money and be central to another club's plans.

He seems to feel undervalued at Bayern so we've got a chance of bringing him here.

Unless Bayern are prepared to give him parity with Goetze, we have a chance

Was talking to a Bayern fan, he says Kroos plays a lot but is paid a lot less than the other players. Until now Bayern weren't interested in paying up. I guess he will stay if Bayern stump up

I never said, that Manchester United cant participate in the latin american/south american/iberian market successfully. I just said that Porto shouldnt be the benchmark and that the European top clubs have to take a different approach to be successful. United has to find and single out the few upcoming topstars, while Porto is able to spread their spending on many players. They also specialized on this market segment, while Manchester has to have a broader focus. Last but not least: its way harder to have a breakthrough at a top club compared to a smaller club. The simple truth is, that developing talents have to play to improve; usually big clubs cant provide this.

Work permit regulations
If a player does not qualify for a european passport they must have played 75% of full international matches over the previous 2 years or be fast tracked through as an exceptional talent.
either way it makes it hard for uk clubs to bring in talented players at a bargin price because if they are an established international all clubs will know about them and if they have the talent to be fast tracked their agent had probably been trying to flog them to every club in europe since they turned 16 anyway
in the countries with less stringent work permit criteria it is natural you will see more young latino players getting an opportunity and as such more and more relationships and networks crop up making it more and more likely to happen in the future.

Can't we just understand that this can't happen?
It depends. It definitely won't happen this summer though. The board have said that he will stay at least until 2015 so there's no point in trying to negotiate. If we refuse to offer him what he wants he may decide to leave. At this point it's all about the money as far as I can see it, he knows what he's got at the club but wants to be recognised and become a top earner.

Will this just be another classic example of a top player using us to boost his own contract?

I don't think we've any hope of getting him to be honest. There are other players that would be much more easily attainable.

He may fancy a new challenge. He's won everything at Bayern.

Plus something like £75-100k extra pw really, really talks.

I wonder how the net figures after tax compare between UK and Germany? Also very important.

The legend Fergie told Pogba to stay... You know the rest.

I'm almost convinced this already is. It's just Fabregas all over again.

Move along, nothing to see here. Leon Osman, we're coming for ya!

Pogba left because he wasn't playing at all this isn't a problem for Kroos... it seems he want's to be paid the same as the top earners at the club considering he's a become a main figure under Guardiola which means Bayern have to play it carefully if they want to keep him.
If they give in to his wishes he will stay with them for a wage increase, they won't want to lose him, yet they'll be effectively giving in to his "ransom" which leaves way for other players such as Lahm/Muller/Alaba to come in and do exactly the same as he is doing. (purely speculation as I have no idea who earns what, I used these players as an example)
Edit: a word

He's a very talented player but his not that good to be given the wages he wants. With Bayern being where they are right now I can see why they are not giving into his demands neither can I see them. At the end of the day they can afford to lose him and still stick within there wage budget as he is not hard to replace. They still have Thiago who will probably turn out to be a better player anyway (yes i know they offer different things).

I still don't think it'll happen, if he's honestly leaving for money, wouldn't Real, City, Chelsea, PSG, Monaco, etc be interested?

Lets not kid ourselves with this challenge talk. A player playing for one of the best clubs in the world, a side that looks like winning plenty of trophies and one he's a key part of doesnt leave for a "new challenge". Specially when the player in question is German and the club Bayern Munich.

If he leaves, it'l be because we pay him wages he wants and Bayern don't. Simple as.

The game at Anfield today highlighted my concerns about Kroos. Despite his quality, I couldn't see him swimming in a game like that.

Firstly, he wasn't playing, secondly, wrong sport.

Interesting signing for them. At 23 I dont think this lad will be standing around picking his nose, hes obviously coming in to replace someone. All signs point to Kroos, but more likely for the year after this summer when his contract runs down.

What is this culture at Bayern to get players out of contract? their building an entire squad for free, its incredible really.

He has been linked to us for more than a year. I dont know why Sammer fancies this lad, but I can assure you, that this signing has nothing to do with Kroos. He is a CM/DM and some people speculate if he also could be a backup for Lahm/Rafinha as fullback.

pros:
+he could fit very well in Pep´s system
+ no transferfee / little salery => no risk.
+ could be a useful squad player

contras:
- lack of quality
- I am not even sure if he´ll be better than højbjerg next season.
- similarities to Jan kirchhoff (they are different types of players, but their talent is equal).

Bayern would probably sell sweinsteiger before they'd sell kroos....they hate us and will do anything to make sure they don't give us any squad boost

Do they? I didn't know this - because of Hargreaves then I guess?

I can't think of any club in Europe that we hate and therefore wouldn't do business with. We just don't like to sell players, that's it. Pretty sure our relationship with United is normal.

BM don't hate us anymore than we hate them, it's about rivalries.

The Hargreaves deal benefited them far more

We gained nothing from that, they sold us a crock and they knew it.

That's pretty much what I thought - which is why I was surprised to the read that in the post I quoted; can't remember much conflict between the clubs other than maybe Hargreaves, but they did very well from that all things considered.

Just saw this and I don't really know what to think about it. First thought is - is he worth such a wage? But then I think - do I really care about how much the players are paid? I don't think I do.

So in short - It's a ludicrous wage but I couldn't give a shite. Sign him if possible.
