Bayern would IMO would be nuts not to take 40m if that number is true. While Kroos is a fantastic player, he is certainly not indispensable and they'd be able to make a real statement that they won't bow to player demands. Bayern really have the corner in getting the creme de la creme of German talent whenever they really feel like it (well for the most part) - so they very likely can have a replacement either from an up and coming German player or even abroad.

Um yeah that's at least how I hope they think when it comes to Kroos.

Regarding a line up of Januzaj, Kagawa and Mata with Rooney up top and speed, maybe we don't have blazing speed on the touchline but, on the break we'd have plenty enough. We saw Kagawa a couple weeks back be quite quick on the break and Januzaj doesn't seem quick because he moves so smoothly but, more than a few defenders have seen the dirt on his boots as he has left them for dead. With technically able players with a good base, we'd be setup well to break teams down and still use the counter attack to good effect.

Bayern have no-one to compete with in Germany other than Dortmund, but even then - Dortmund are so far behind at the moment. France is the same too, with PSG & with Monaco on the way up. Englands a different matter. There's atleast 4 teams that can attract the same player, it all depends on the many scenarios of gaining a players attention to your club...

Im sick of hearing this arguement about lack of pace. It doesnt matter when you have intelligent footballers moving the ball quickly between each other. which you would with Kroos, Januzaj, Mata, Kagawa, and Rooney in the same team.
We have fast players now (Valencia, young etc) but the ball doesnt move from player to player with speed or any thought.

IMO Were pretty close to getting this guy, well break the Mata record for him probably 40m and if we do I'll cry tears of joy. We're very very close.

He seems abit like an ego player. Isn't happy unless he gets his own way.

I've always thought that fergie installed a mentality at this club for doing things for the benefit of the team and it worries me that we seem to be headed in a completely different direction.

Kroos is an undeniable talent and would be incredible for us but it rubs me up the wrong way that we just want to throw cash at him,.what about the United philosophy? Say we do get him, will he just throw another strop in a couple of years when we start looking at other players, or if someone else gets a pay rise.

You can see why Bayern feel it is disruptive to the current structure of the club.

So, in matter of few posts you go from crying tears of joy imagining gettting a player to thinking he is disruptive?

Seriously from where are these guys coming up? All of this guy's posts on this page stink of WUM.

Sorry SolidState but... thats funny man

You're a little harsh on the Wummimg accusations there though.

I've gone from Moyes in to Moyes out in about 10 mins sometimes. I'm so confused about it all.... or am i?

hehe. Yeah maybe a bit harsh but most of his posts here are weird. Anyway, getting back to topic...

Kroos is fantastic but if we pulled it off I would probably only wank with my left hand. Not entirely convinced he's the right man, but I'd still be more than happy. Someone quicker and more dynamic would be ideal. That said, I don't think he's less mobile than Fabregas who was the best in our league I suppose.

I think there's only one better option for us in the market right now than Kroos and that's Vidal. However I don't think we can get him for even 40m and he seems to like it in Juve. Kroos is fantastic talent and with Carvalho (if both coming) we should have a solid central midfield.

I don't think pace is that much of an issue. Besides we're getting Reus as well aren't we?

Is he worth 40 million? To be honest, I mostly notice his goals and him being generally comfortable on the ball. Is he really an elite level central midfielder like fabregas who we didn't seem to want to bid that amount for? Does he have that kind of passing range and all round ability ?

Yes to all of that. But I do believe that he isnt the kind of CM we really need. I'd rather pay 15mil more and get a Vidal. But he's an unrealistic target to say the least. Kroos is top drawer at what he does though.

Interesting. He's not impressed that much when I've seen him, I have to say. Not like a fabregas level of talent. Guess I haven't seen enough of him or paid enough attention.

Fabregas is more of a final ball player than Kroos but that also has to do with the system Kroos plays in. He definitely is a top passer so I dont see why he cant perform that role here. Thing is though, I dont know how a CM of Kroos and Carrick/DM will work with a front 4 that has both Kagawa and Mata. I think we'd be better off with a more defensively solid middle 2. But then again, I'l admit to not having seen enough of Kroos to perfectly comment on whether he can partner a Carrick in the middle effectively defensively.

He's exactly the kind of CM we need, we just don't have the correct partner for him and signing Carvalho isn't going to change that either.

The way he's been playing we might have to think of life beyond Carrick as early as next season. And I think it might be for the better too. It's about time we had two midfielders with enough ability on the ball and legs. Carrick in addition to that would be great.

I don't think Kagawa is an issue. He's very disciplined and quite good at covering his man and excellent at pressing. What he lacks in physique he make up in other area. But yes, mata is quite poor defensively and you need two midfielders who can contribute defensively behind him.

I'm not sure. He's not very good defensively is he? If mata is going to be our main number 10, and I think he's the best we've got there, then you need someone more like schweinstiger than kroos.

Everyone needs a Schweinsteiger to be fair, but sadly there isn't enough to go around.

Kross would certainly be a good addition for us.

Against most Premier League sides Kroos and Carrick would work fine. Carvalho and Kroos is much more defensively solid. All three is a good midfield against top class opposition. They'd be brilliant signings if we could possibly pull them off.

Is there any reason why Kroos or Carvalho can't be moulded into more of Bastian type of midfielders? They're both young and lernin...

With Kroos, all I've read from Bayern forums/fans is that he basically plays games at walking pace. Can any people who've watched him more comment on this?

If so, wouldn't this lack of work rate be unsuited to the box to box role we likely intend him to play.

I dont think Mata's defensively poor tbf to him. He does put in effort. But physically, both of them are light players. If we play both of them ahead of a midfield of Carrick-Kroos, I certainly see the need for some balance with a defensively solid right winger. Either that or you have a more solid midfield 2 allowing you to play 4 attackers.

Box to box role? I dont see him ever playing that role for anyone.

Well, Moyes has commented on his wish to get more goals from midfield, that implies that one player will be bombing forward in the Lampard/Scholes mould...presumably with a Carvalho/Carrick holding. Since Kroos isn't a defensive midfielder, wouldn't that mean he's more likely to be the more attacking part of a 2 man midfield for us?

He does play games at walking pace but that's a serious compliment for a game dictating midfield player. He just runs games like Scholesy did. He's only 24 and could last for years and years.

So you mean an offensive minded CM not a box to box, in that sense I agree. He'd definitely provide goals from CM too.

Mata is quite poor defensively IMO. He tries hard but seems to lack the basic defensive abilities, whereas Kagawa knows how to cover his man and hold his ground.

When Kroos broke through and when he was on loan at Leverkusen he was basically a number 10 and continued that role for much of last season until he got injured. But arguably the best spell of his career has been since he's dropped deep and started dictating play. His long passing is amongst the best in the game and he could quite easily develop into the top playmaker in world football.

Kagawa is better defensively, I agree but Mata's no passenger unlike say an Ozil. That's what I was getting at. But yeah, as I said, both of them + a proper attacking right winger and I dont see a Kroos-Carrick pairing being solid enough.

Just came in here to add that the thread title is the best one ever.

Does anyone else shout Transfersprechen in a overtly comedic German accent whenever they read it ?

He doesn't provide that many goals from CM. 3 in 43 games so far this season. Doubt that would improve, if he's playing an even more defensive role as one of two CMs behind Rooney/Mata/Kagawa.

I think he'd have more freedom at a club like ours. Also encouraged more to take shots than under Pep's setup.

He basically played as an AM last season with Martinez and Schweinsteiger in DM/CM and scored 9. Can't see him getting close to that number if he's played as a deep lying playmaker next to a DM like most here suggest

I actually believe his defensive contribution is underrated while his goalscoring is signficantly overrated.

He'd be a great signing for newspaper sub-editors. They'd have a field day with pun headlines. Kroos control, Kroosial, Kroosified etc

I hope you're true tbh. I'd much rather he turn out to be less a goalscorer than I expect and more solid defensively. IF he comes here though :D

You'd rather we get a Kroos/Gundogan than a Vidal?

Not at all, I'm saying we need a Vidal to play next to Kroos. To be honest I was totally against the idea of signing Cabaye in January because I didn't see him as the sort of player we need (more a matter of quality than anything) but I think he'd have been as good a partner for Kroos as anyone.

I've said it many times, my absolute wet dream of a summer transfer window would be Kroos and Vidal coming in as first choice with Carvalho coming in to replace Fellaini who leaves along with Cleverley and Anderson.

In the big games, we'd be feared by every single team in Europe setting up with a midfield 3 of:

Carvalho
Vidal - Kroos

Don't get me wrong I would love him here but Moyes seems to be spending really ALL the money we have, like KKK did at Liverpool. Shaw, Carvalho and Kroos would be amazing but 105m for 3 players where only 1 is world class and played at his best as a 10 for Bayern Munich under Heynckes. I mean yes he can play as an 8 but his most consistent and best spell for Bayern was last year. I really hoped that Moyes would be a better scout, given how many gems he unearthed for Everton. His target list so far could've been written by anyone who knows abit about European football and has all the money in the world.

One year left on his contract, paying 40m and 200k per week. That's even above City/Chelsea level of spending. In fact he'd be nearly as expensive as Aguero. Mad money if it's true.

Ah I see. I agree then. I also feel we need 2 CMs, not one. Its ridiculous its the case when we spent close to 30mil on a CM last year.

I think all he has over Gundogan is that shooting ability, otherwise I'd have him above too, at least for us. I've also learned over the course of this season that Koke is better than I first thought, and I think he'd also be a very good choice. Outside that group, I'd have no issue with us going for Ross Barkley and developing him as an 8, which I think he can be.

We're not getting Koke though and Gundogan is a crock.

Koke is not leaving, unless they can't sell anyone else and get a HUGE offer from us or another club, which I doubt. They can easily sell Costa if both parties want it. Koke is a local lad, very settled in Madrid and he and Atletico are having the season of their lives. Plus he is only 22 so could easily stay there for a couple of years and leave then if the time is right. Or replace Xavi at Barca in 1-2 years, wouldn't be surprised at all. I would absolutely love him at United, he is one of my favourite players outside United but I can't see him here.
