Don't see how they were worse without him. They pretty much won the CL convincingly without him. Wouldn't say he's a modern day scholes. Scholes at his age was a better vertical player. He could give and take better than pretty much any footballer out there and that's what made him special. Plus his runs into the box were a constant threat, not so for kroos. Perhaps compared to 'old scholes' you could have a point.

His range is great, but his vision is nothing special. He only has 4 assists despite playing week in week out for a team that scores for fun. What does that tell you? Just watch him play and its easy to spot. What he is great at is spreading play and keeping play ticking along. His game vs arsenal isn't a regular occurrence, if it was he'd be a much more coveted footballer. Ask any bayern fan and they'll tell you the same.

As I said he's a good player but people talking 50 mill have lost it. Nothing makes him a better player than someone like pjanic so why pay that when we could get him for half of that?

He's worth 25-30, but to tempt a big club to sell probably 40.

Plus he 'only' has four assists because he plays a deeper role, you are saying 4 assists but you need to only understand Bayerns system for one, he is usually the pass before the pass for the goal, because he often spreads it wide to the winger, who gives a give and go with another player then goes on to score a goal, plus his deeper role means he keeps things ticking yes.

If he was more advanced on the pitch it would mean more goals, and more assists, he's a great player, great talent, and he is complete as a midfield package, maybe not the most agile, or pace in abundance, but his creativity with passing is what he is for, and his clean connection with the ball.

If you want a box to box player, that's not Kroos as he can't get up to support as fast as others, if you want a player that controls a football match you want a player like Kroos, if you want a ball-winner you have a player like Carvalho.

Just listened to Honigstein on Guardian's Football Weekly, and they were talking about Kroos and his future. According to Honigstein, while the perception outside Germany is that Kroos will definitely stay at Bayern, he'd be crazy to leave, they'd be crazy to let him leave etc, the perception within the club itself is that the situation is a lot more undecided. He thinks that Kroos has the next few weeks in the CL to prove that he is worth the money he's asking for, especially in the next leg against United with all their other midfielders out. Bayern are reluctant to break their wage structure, especially if they feel Kroos is 'just another player' because then Alaba, Müller etc. will want the same wages as well.

I think giving Götze his current wages was a mistake given his age and how much more he's earning in comparison to others in the team, but there were rumours about City offering him a megadeal so it was probably because of that.

I really hope Moyes gives Welbeck a man marking job on him, then. That'll be the best way to nullify him and make him look shit.

Not to mention that Goetze has done nothing since joining to make himself look anything like value for money. He also looks out of shape to me at the moment.

It would also be a good method of springing our attacks I think. If Kroos is robbed as the deepest midfielder, hopefully we are setup to break from there.

So on top of progressing if we beat them next week, we can convince Bayern not to give him the contract he wants as well? Win-win.

IMO Were pretty close to getting this guy, well break the Mata record for him probably 40m and if we do I'll cry tears of joy. We're very very close.

Bro.

He's my muppet wet dream, however, if we are to get him then pairing him up to Carvalho isn't going to work in my opinion. He needs someone very mobile and dynamic next him if he's to make a real impact here.

Who are you then?

You better be fecking this guy on the right, otherwise I'd be livid.

Just observation man I don't know why everyone is taking my word for it. Well see how it pans out but it's really not as far fetched as everyone is saying.

Is it going to be wrapped up before the World Cup or is it going to be prolonged?

From "We're very very close" to "it's really not as far fetched as everyone is saying". That's quite the spectrum of likelihood bud.

I don't want you guys thinking I have some insider information that anyone else couldn't access, I'm just letting my excitement get the better of me. Sorry.

Surely he will score an own goal on Wednesday. After all he wants to play in the CL next season!

He seems abit like an ego player. Isn't happy unless he gets his own way.

I've always thought that fergie installed a mentality at this club for doing things for the benefit of the team and it worries me that we seem to be headed in a completely different direction.

Kroos is an undeniable talent and would be incredible for us but it rubs me up the wrong way that we just want to throw cash at him,.what about the United philosophy? Say we do get him, will he just throw another strop in a couple of years when we start looking at other players, or if someone else gets a pay rise.

You can see why Bayern feel it is disruptive to the current structure of the club.

Unfortunately we're not in the position to be overly picky in the market this summer. We can't offer Champions League football. It is likely we will sign some mercenaries.

What philosophy? We've always blasted top dollar when we could afford to.

Actually you raise a good point that I find myself reminded of alot. We are the biggest club in the biggest league in the world. If we want to sustain that position and compete at the highest level we simply have to buy players using the City and Chelsea way of cash launching.

It's crap, but it's exciting from a "who will we get next" point of view. But I look at Southampton and thier academy and it's absolutely incredible. We have a great academy too but with these huge deals being struck will we ever see our Shaw, Lallana, Rodriguez? I certainly hope so and Januzaj gives me hope.

But for now I say get em all!

Ironic that City always look like they care more when the derby rolls around despite universal agreement that they're a bunch of mercenaries.

United broke the British record when we bought robson and keane. Rio and stam were the world more expensive defenders. Buying top players when we lack the talent we need is also part of the uniteds way

I have no proof. Sorry lads.

Indeed, but having said that, we also shipped out the players that were disruptive or caused unrest in the squad. I get a slightly disruptive vibe off Kroos. I mean obviously from my posts in here you can tell Im super excited over the prospect of signing him.

I think the club will change a hell of a lot more come the summer, not just from signings but also from our attitude and philosophy going forwards.

You can start to see the direction were going in by the re-signing of Rooney, I was pretty surprised we kind of stuck with him, all signs were pointing to an unceremonious parting of companies then out of the blue BANG new contract, highest ever paid player in the prem.

We do need to compete in todays market, we definitely need to spend big and secure ourselves as top contenders, Kroos would go a long way to begin that transition so I am extremely hopeful we can secure him.

We were never afraid to buy players with a 'controversial' character. Cantona, Ince and Di Canio (ok the latter was never signed in the first place but SAF would have loved him at OT) to name a few. I can make a list of players who went to extremes just to sign with us. Paul Ince went on wearing United shirt when he was still a West Ham player, Dwight Yorke slept in front of Ellis house in a car in a bid to force a deal and Keane ended up punched in the face.

Interesting, I never knew that. Shows the kind of pull our club has. Admittedly those were players from smaller clubs. Bayern to United is considered by some as a step down, which a bit silly but our current situation kind of warrants that.

Maybe it's just me but £40m seems like too much and if I were Bayern I'd take that. No doubt Kroos is an excellent player, but he's in the last year of his contract come the summer. His age is an advantage but I'd think £30m would be the absolute max we'd go in for.

Ronaldo or Messi even in the last year of their contract would demand over £40m, not sure any other players would.
