I can.. he wants a new contract and why are 'reportedly' offering him silly money. If Bayern fail to meet his demands which is unlikely I have to say, I can see him being a United player in the summer minus CL. I'm sure he could sacrifice a year of CL football which he has already won (even though he was injured) for a bigger contract. Most players would which is why the board make statements like they have.

Indeed. These players may not be desperate to sign for a club out of the CL, but the sort of money that might be on offer turns things on its head.

The PL is a big league in terms of global exposure, and United are still a big draw. If they're offering big money players will come and the squad will be improved, and hopefully the CL and challenging for trophies follows. It's a big challenge here over the next few years and those coming in could become superstars if they have what it takes.

A Manchester United operating in the 2014 transfer market like they did a decade ago, exacerbated by the need to invest after the end of the Ferguson era, is a major, major player.

PSG have signed a wealth of talent on the back of big fees and wages alone. Little history and a poor league, yet they play with Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani, amongst others.

If, and the signing of Mata and contract handed out to Rooney indicate we are, we're finally treating the market with some realism and ruthlessness, I wouldn't rule signing the likes of Kroos out. Players will still flock to United, we just need to pander to them and their agents more than Ferguson liked to.

let's hope kroos won't be next summers fabregas...
It will be if he doesn't extend before the transfer windows starts. I just hope he saves us the hope and subsequent heartbreak by extending as soon as possible.

Sorry if already posted...Beckenbauer has warned Kroos about his demands.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-warns-toni-kroos-over-manchester-united-link
Franz Beckenbauer has warned Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos not to hold the club to ransom following reports linking him with a big-money move to Manchester United.
Reports in the British media on Monday morning suggested United are prepared to pay the Germany international £250,000 a week if he moves to Old Trafford.
Kroos would treble his wages if he moved to United, who would reportedly be prepared to pay the German giants £30m for his services.
The midfielder's contract ends in June next year but Bayern have as yet been unable to agree a new deal with the 24-year-old.
Bayern's honorary president Beckenbauer told Sky Germany: "He shouldn't raise the stakes too high.
"Bayern will make an effort to keep him, but when the demands are too high, a decision will be made.
"There is no player who you have to give everything to keep. Everyone is replaceable."

Bayern's director of sport Matthias Sammer says the European champions are keen to keep the attacking midfielder.
"We know that he is a very good player and we want to continue with Kroos," said Sammer. "Everyone at the club sees it that way."

Basically it's their way of saying we'll pay you less than what you could earn elsewhere, comes down to whether the player wants to earn more money, as with most big transfers.

I don't hold any hope, it's got a contract agreement written all over it.

Beckenbauer has no say in Bayern matters. He's not a club official. It's a non-story really.

True, but it is an indication that Kroos is demanding a lot more money than Bayern are willing to pay. No, he may not be an offical for Bayern, but it's another voice out there that is also saying that he is replaceable.

He is still a big influence within German football.

There are definitely a few signs that indicate this is feasible, if still unlikely.

If we throw the cash at him, he may well come. This isn't an unusual prospect in general, but it is with regards to United who have, in the last half-decade or so, not even really offered market rate wages/fees, typically falling just short. Which is exactly why we are where we are currently.

30m to Bayern and 250k a week to him can very well seal the deal. That is a LOT of money!

Yeah it is. Kroos would walk to Manchester if we offered him that kind of money, even the moneybags won't pay him that much as none of them are that hard pressed for midfielders. To be honest, I can't see even us offering him that kind of money.

Yeah, 250k looks a bit silly for first contract. It might be his agent's work. Don't know what max Bayern will offer, but if it is in region of 150k, 200k rom us should be enough as well. Let's see. Can't expect it to happen easily if at all it happens.

Doesn't Germany have a slightly higher tax-rate too? Any salary at United would likely compare favourably to Bayern's in real terms.

Yeah, the tax-rate thing crossed my mind while writing the post but was not aware about how much it is in Germany. All I know is, it is better for players in Spain than England.

Oh yeah, the Beckham rule got amended, right?
Yup, although Madrid and Barca have found ways to dodge the tax but the rumour is they're going to have to start complying. Spain gets a huge handout from euro which is in danger of being drastically cut if they don't stop their various tax evasion.

I see. Would be interesting if/when that happens to big two in Spain and watching how they react.

Now this will be interesting. Will people call Kroos a mercenary if he comes to United for them big wages... clearly we're worse off than Bayern, he still fits into their team and to top it off they will be in Champions League and we most likely wont.

We arent a City or a PSG but if he comes, it'l only be for the money so it'l be hard to argue against those that do.

Nah, a mercenary is going from a top club to a minnow like Monaco or out to China. Joining any of the top 10 clubs in the world really can be seen as a sideways step. Bayern's dominance will last a few years and then somebody else will step up. You never know it might be us.

But isn't that the case with many City players that people here call mercenaries? Especially someone like Tevez?

In my book, a mercenary is someone who moves just for the money. That'd be the case if Kroos left Bayern to join us.

Incorrect. If Kroos moves to us, its for the money, prestige and history. Same as if he moved to AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona. If it was to City, PSG or Chelsea, then its for the money.

He's not going to leave Bayern for us even if we offer him 300k/week.

He'd be a real fecking idiot to wanna play under Moyes when he has Guardiola as his current. They will settle on his contract and he'll stay with them most likely.

Horse shit.

People sign for City/Cheslki for money AND trophies. No one gives a feck about history. Prestige is whoever is the best team and winning.

If we offer REAL money and convince players we offer good prospects of winning trophies we can get anyone.

No, I'm correct. You're wrong.

If he is thinking of coming here I honestly think the club should ask whether there have been any mental health problems in his family history.

Fans are the only one who care about history. Players care for money and for trophies. If he comes to us he will come only for money because now we don't guarantee trophies at all. Considering that there are clubs who can pay more than us then he won't come to us at all, even if he decides to leave Bayern (which I don't think will happen).

Well his brother seems to think we have a chance..

According to this we have made him a offer. And his brother thinks it could be worse than having to pick from these two!

"We talked about it. As long as I can think Manchester (it's very common for people outside UK to call us Manchester, I did it too when I was younger) has been my dream club. I don't advice him to do anything. He can do that on his own. There are worse situations than having to make that decision.

se either bayern have given us permission to talk to him, we are openly tapping him up or its bollocks

I know where my bet would be placed

It seems that discussing figures and making offers to a player's agent is perfectly allowed as long as you don't make contact with the player himself.

Ferguson openly talks in his book about talking to Van Persie's agent way before Arsenal had come around to the idea of selling him to us let alone agreed a deal and even went as a far to say that we had offered him less than Juventus but it was us he was pushing Arsenal to accept a bid from.

His brother says "We have talked about it already (the offer from United). Manchester United has been my dream club since my childhood. However, I haven't advised him anything. He can make his own decisions. There are worse situations one can find himself in (to choose between Bayern or United).

Right, which position does his brother play and is he any good? I see he's easy to get considering he said United are his dream club

We cant legally make him an offer till bayern give us permission so either:
A. They have given us permission and we have made an offer the brothers can discuss
b. They have not given us permission but we have made an offer direct and are tapping him up illegally which his brother has now made public
c. We have not made an offer and it is bollocks made up by a newspaper
d. we have not made an offer and it is bollocks made up to help get him a better offer from bayern
