The way I see it: Either Kroos or Schweinsteiger had to leave. They both have comparable strengths (vision, composure on the ball, passing, controlling the game's tempo) and weaknesses (speed, moving forward). Playing them side by side, in my humble opinion, has never worked as well as pairing one of them with a more offensive minded or creative nr. 8 or 10 (Thiago, Müller, Götze), especially if Lahm also plays DM (also comparable weaknesses and strengths). The key to success is a variable midfield, so I think one of the two would have had his pay-time cut considerably.

Schweinsteiger is a club legend altough I feel he's slightly overrated since his brilliant 2009/10 campaign and a little injury prone, while Kroos seems to play more for his stats than his team's success at times and struggles or just doesn't care enough to really identify with the club. All in all, this is probably the better solution. Kroos just isn't in the same bracket as Lahm, Schweinsteiger and Müller in terms of accomplishments and club identification, so his 10mil demand was always going to be declined.

After his departure, I'd love to see a midfield like this more often:

--------Martinez --- Schweinsteiger/Thiago
---------------Müller/Thiago---------

They sign players at random, Isco, llaramendi will be forced to leave, Morata, Jesè as well.

What? No way. I can only see Morata leave.
I can't see Isco being content with sitting on the bench for a second year. I know he is Spanish and at Real but he has a lot of potential which is being wasted at the moment. I'd love to see him go somewhere where he would play regularly, was great at Malaga and I wouldn't say he has improved during that year at Real.

The same will happen to Kroos. I fully expect him to be sold in a few years, similar to Özil. It's just how their club works and that won't change.

I think that llaramendi will leave sooner or later. He is just not good enough. Buying him for 40m (?) was mental. Isco will stay at least one more year in Madrid. He actually did play quite a bit. about 3100minutes with 12 appearances in the CL. Not too bad.

Just checked, it was 32m euros, even so, a lot of money on a player who will probably no be shipped off sooner or later.

I think he will be loaned to Porto. It´s a Lopetegui wish from the start even before they got Oliver Torres from Atlético.

Tell me again why LvG didnt want Kroos?
Or does Kroos prefer not to play under LVG? Regardless, even with Brazil's woeful defence, Kroos is a fabulous player. If a player like Scholes enjoys watching Kroos you know how good Kroos must be.

I'm going to choose to believe that Madrid came in for him and we never stood a chance.

Do you really believe that LvG who's renowned for identifying talent wouldn't want Kroos? It's more realistic that RM swooped in and he had to decide between staying with Munich, us and Madrid.

Really????? There battering Brazil like playground kids. This is nothing to rate Kroos on.!! I could play in this and look good.

Go on Woodward, just sign him and let LvG have a good headache

The "wasn't in LVG's plans and that's okay" has always been stupid imo. He's good enough to be accommodated somehow especially if Carrick who's a far lesser player than he is will still get into the team next season.
And if reports are to be believed that he was heading here under Moyes, it's makes it even more annoying.

Dont try. Sense has no place in here sometimes.

Why is it stupid? If he isn't in van Gaals plans then it is ok. Perhaps we should wait and see what his plan is. If we go and sign Vidal, what then of van Gaals plan and whether Kroos fits it or not?

If they win the World Cup, Kroos will probably stay and play with his german homeboys.

Bayern would be crazy to let him go by the way. In fact, they should make Kroos their highest payed player.

If Kroos wanted to come here, we would be in for him and gotten him. Not much you can do if he chooses Real as his preferred destination.

Blaming Moyes for all of this.

With CL we would have had Kroos and Sanchez I'm sure.

We would also still have Moyes here. I think the events played out better this way.

Brazil were shambolic today, and aplayer like Kroos will always stand out in games like today. Even though i thought Khedira was better. Where was Kroos pass and vision when Madrid sat back and countered Bayerns high defensive line in the Champions League?

Moyes is sat surrounded by empty wine bottles, screaming "I'd all but signed Kroos you bastards!! He was coming! Now look what you've done!".

Whoever gets Kroos, wins. Beautiful right foot, and very good left foot.

He becomes one of my favorite midfielders to watch, along with Pirlo and Xabi.

I'm glad Moyes is gone, can't stand the stern ginger wanker but I'd bet that if we had kept him we'd have wrapped Kroos up pre-World Cup.

Yup, I agree with that, plus Shaw. Perhaps Carvalho as well. Going into the season, at least our mid wouldn't be over run all the time with them there.

I agree that we'd have wrapped those three players up, I just don't think he's have the ability to form a cohesive team out of them.

Shaw and Carvalho I agree, but I really don't think Moyes would've gotten Kroos. This whole 'LvG didn't want him' reeks of saving face after chasing him for so long only to have been rejected in favour of Madrid.

Yeah I think Moyes going is the bigger positive for sure.

Kroos will struggle at Madrid, fans will turn on him. We will cruise the PL and sign him for £22m next season.

Despite the fact all the press were briefed that LVG wasn't interested a week before Kroos came out and announced "United are not an option, I will be staying at Bayern for the upcoming season". Then Real show interest and he's off there.

For whatever reason he wasn't happy at Bayern and had been seeking a transfer, it was going to be to us and we obviously pulled out.

2012 they lost. 2013 he didnt play!!!!! 2014 so what... I'm not doubting his talent his just not that good. Pogba over him anyday of the week.

He was one of the best players in a great Bayern team in 2012. He had his CL run in 2012, got the title in 2013(when he played till the quarters) and has another CL semis.
And a fine world cup so far. ;)
He is one of the best midfielders on this planet for years.

Thought he was superb tonight. He really does know how to dictate the pace of a game. With the energy of Schweinsteiger and Khedira, who I also thought had a great game, really complimented Kroos. Great performance.
