They're reliable in terms of what they're reporting comes from real sources, what they won't know is whether their sources are right. The article in question is this:
http://www.elconfidencial.com/depor...a-su-enemigo-para-fichar-a-toni-kroos_143125/

What that says is that Real Madrid believe than van Gaal has called Kroos. What they don't say is who told Madrid that. Was it Kroos, Kroos's agent, somebody from Bayern, somebody from United?

In any case for all we know van Gaal called him to say that Bayern aren't selling and that he should give us a ring when he's a free agent in 2015.
thank you! hence why it's no surprise what it is reported may never come to fruition even if it's from a reliable paper/journalist

Of course they do. Modern sports "journalism" 101, lecture 1.
who exactly? people on twitter or actual journalists who work on a story? if they talk to an agent whose info is really a lie, is the journalist still deemed as making it up?

anyone on this forum could make up a rumor no problem. even easier to bait people on twitter with them.

Both, as if the journo doesn't make it up but "just" disseminates it, he's purposefully careless enough to violate good journalism practices.

A fine example of last summer: A BVB fan tweeted as a test for journos "What's going on between Toni Kroos and Dortmund?" It didn't take longer than 24 hrs (!) and it even appeared via Honigstein in the Guardian.

Every journo with a tiny rest of work ethics would have identified the tweet as fake.

Good point what did Honigstein say in the article if you remember? My point is I dont deny that some rumours are "made up" but to just say so without having any good reason other than intuition seems a bit off to me especially if it's coming from a respected journalist. There is a lot we dont know because we are fans and are on the outside looking in. However if we can become more aware of how things generally work, then it may be easier to get an understanding of what things really are. Very rarely do we hear the full truth on a story so invariably, we can only venture an educated guess or conclusion as to what happened.

I'm rarely going to say x or y story is rubbish because I feel that assumes I know something about the story when in truth, I really dont.

Latest stories about him:

El Confidencial says he wants to leave Bayern because his wage demands haven't been met. Options are Madrid and United. He wants 5m Euros/year after tax, which Madrid are willing to pay. Negotiations are underway and they are waiting for Bayern's response. Although the paper also reported a few days ago that LVG had private talks with Kroos.

BILD reported the EC story but they also said that Kroos wants to leave at the end of his contract in 2015.

What's the tax rates in England? We should be able to pay him 5mil easy imo.

It would really suck if he used us to get himself a better contract but with what happened last year with the tantrums when being substituted, the story of him wanting to leave might actually be true. He has been complaining for a while now for a new contract.

So he is leaving Bayern? Doesn't seem like Bayern are budging on the offered contract it'll be interesting seeing how it develops but I reckon he'll leave on a free next season.

It looks really likely he'll leave. The question all of us don't know the answer to is this year or next. All depends on whether Bayern want a fee or one more year of him.

Not really surprised. The Bayern board won't budge, it depends really Bayern are in a healthy state financially so I can't see them selling for anything below 35M. They might keep him for another year then Pep might go in for Koke.

Eh? If its 50%, 200k a week would be enough which I dont think we'd hesitate to pay for someone like Kroos if it really comes down to that.

Also there's a million loopholes that are exploited so that Footballers pay less tax.

Yeah, I'm an idiot, I added the tax on twice, I should work for the government eh ? it's £155k which is a lot more reasonable.

You're forgetting the NI payments (13.8% employer, 2% employee). To come out with £5m the gross cost to the club would be just shy of £11m per year (£210k a week), although as previously stated some will be avoidable.

Don't a lot of players, get much of their salary now paid as image rights amongst other things, thus avoiding tax as the payment is made to a their company rather than the individual?

Kroos to United is just bullocks. He never got the appreciation from van Gaal that he wanted - and I would doubted that they liked each other - twosided...

Kroos is leaving to Real - this year or next. I do not even think that he will stay in Munich.

What angle is your cock facing? Mine's at least at half mast.

I know they both play different positions. There were some reports that Real Madrid wants to sell di Maria. Sell di Maria - buy Suarez and kroos.?

if LVG is looking for a well-rounded CM in the mould of Bastian, Kroos aint really it. Very good player but like @Blackwidow said, didn't get appreciation from van Gaal at Bayern and spent I believe most of LVG's tenure away from Bayern on loan

Kroos didn't get the appreciation at Bayern from LvG? Is that so?

The way I recall it he was on loan to Leverkusen in 2009/10 (on Klinsmann's initiative the year before) so he missed 2/3 of the Dutchman's tenure completely. Afterwards it took Kroos some time to adapt to the new surroundings, position and playing stile. He was a playing as an inverted playmaker on the left wing for Heynckes' Leverkusen team after all and had to adapt to a role in central midfield where he had never played in professional football for an extended period of time. Still, at the end of the first half of the season Toni Kroos became a starter in central midfield, but a stress fracture in his foot took him out of the picture for more than two months. Even so, during the winter break LvG got rid of captain Mark van Bommel to make place for Toni Kroos as his successor in central midfield. Shortly after the return from injury LvG was sacked by the Bayern board.

Doesn't sound like the story of an underappreciated player.

Him and Isco could battle for the #10 role. I mean him moving to Madrid is basically the same position as Bayern in terms of playing time. He won't get as much time as he would if he moves here but I guess he just wants more money.

Maybe I'm a little old fashioned but I think in the first instance, the player needs to want to be here for football reasons. Everything else will follow cause the money will be comparable here to anywhere else he would go. It's not like he's 32 and signing his last contract.

The thing about Kroos is, he doesn't seem to have that back and forth work rate that Van Gaal loves.

When it comes to Real though, to buy, they surely need to sell.
