I'm saying that I don't think Moyes knew how to build a team or implement a coherent philosophy and his transfer strategy was to go after big money players in the hope one would stick. LVG, on the other hand, has a track record of building a team. If he doesn't want Kroos its because of a reason.

If he doesnt want Kroos & if he was available - then its complete madness. Its was only today that Scholesy was even raving about Kroos to United ffs...

LvG isnt even in the job & he's reportedly knocking back world-class signings. LvG will start work for United in mid-July - not the other way round. Its absolute suicide to let him have full say in players we want to bring in, when he's fully committed to the Dutch national team til mid-July.

Dont be surprised if you read that the Shaw deal is off because LvG says so!

History could be repeating itself - Moyes turned down the option of signing Thiago, Garay & Strootman last summer because he didnt rate them as Prem quality, after we'd done a years prepin them - but had about 3-4 years prepin Thiago more to the point!

At the end of the day, it's LVG's problem. Sit back and enjoy.

It's a bit early for St Muppetington Day, isn't it?

If true this is worrying stuff from Van Gaal. I'm sure there's loads of players that would love to come here to play for the club, the difference is the ones with sufficient quality will dictate large wages due to competition, they have a short career they're not doing it for the love of the club ffs.

If we end up with another midfielder that's just happy to be here I'll be fuming.

Its not his problem - its our problem. He can feck off whenever he wants - we wont!

Whats to enjoy when we're hearing these LvG Kroos knock-back stories?

Goin by that logic he'd probably knock back Messi or Ronaldo because he doesnt want his chosen players earning more than he does..

Maybe this has been discussed but I don't understand the logic of foregoing Kroos if he is only going to cost 20m, as opposed to someone like Fabregas who is older and much more expensive...

I suspect that Bayern is unwilling to sell and will let him go for free next season.

Oh, the irony... ala Dortmund. What goes around...

You're assuming he's going for 20m.

Daily Mail have got it so hilariously wrong. Within 24 hours of announcing it as a "done deal" it's fallen flat on their faces.

Serves you lot right for believing the Mail.

Exactly, either Kroos or fabregas would be leaving one of the top 3 clubs in Europe to join us who finished 7th, are in transition and without any European football, of course they're fecking coming here for the money, we're deluded if we think they have a genuine love of the club or city.

Do you think the media plan this stuff out?

Okay, we know absolutely nothing, but we need to sell newspapers.

So on Wednesday we'll report that Kroos is a done deal. Then on Thursday we'll report that Van Gaal doesn't want him.

Friday and Saturday we let the fans get upset, then on Sunday we'll sell a bunch of papers.

The other possibility is that the media just go fishing for information. They put out a false or half-true news story on purpose in order to provoke a confirmation or a denial from the people involved.

In my experience (interned at the Telegraph Sport and TV desks), they don't plan it out, no, but they do quite unabashedly just make things up. I remember hearing things like 'we haven't got a Chelsea story, get a striker link with them up today.'

Meh..I preferred Kevin Stootman or Mateo Kovaciç in that box to box role anyways.

It is a good thing that this rumor was killed of early though, we can now focus on more realistic target like Fabregas and Vidal.

Yes because Vidal is so much more realistic.

Can only go on assumptions based on recent press. Kroos was allegedly a done deal for 20m and Cesc was going for at least 40m

Is Cesc that much better of a player? Considering Kroos is 4 years younger, an acknowledged top talent and is going for much cheaper because he only has a year left on his current contract.

You could be right, it's not like BM needs the 20m or whatever he is worth. Can afford to play hardball.

I really wish we can use the "slave" analogy in our favor and have a raid in the media to hurt Bayern's credibility in this case.

Its all not about selling papers, its about selling advertising - thats where their real money is made each day. Why would the likes of the Mail & The Mirror bother with breaking news stories on their websites if they wanted increased paper sales the next day?!

Papers will still sell of course because folk still like a physical copy of stories because they're sick of lookin at the net / computer screen / handset etc all day..

Its a shitter about Kroos, but i'd say there's more legs in this story yet - especially since Kroos supposedly said (if thats true) United was never an option in the 1st place, the same day LvG allegedly pulled out of any alleged deal!

He'll probably just improve in his remaining time at Bayern and eventually they give him more of what he wants and he signs a new deal in 2015

I'm just feckin' disgusted at how the situation changed completely. That's another midfielder saying "no" to us and I'm fed up with that.

A situation engineered almost entirely by twitter/the newspapers. It's our own fault for being so short-sighted and going for players at two of the best clubs in the world - that should say to you that there's a massive chance that this transfer won't come off.

Spot on. Anyone playing the doom and gloom card about how we always seem to lose out on big transfers has only themselves to blame for getting excited over media bs.

As LvG said that he had given a transfer list to United already, I would not worry much about this alleged "Kroos move blocked by van Gaal" thing. The manager has tons of experience, is a winner, prefers attacking football and is well known for getting the best out of his players and promoting youth. We may sign none of Vidal/Fabregas/Kroos this summer, however, I am absolutely sure we will buy players who will improve us significantly. Also, I will be more than happy if some of our reserve/younger players are promoted to the first team.

You only do that if you can afford to (havin a solid 1st team & knowing whats coming through like Fergie did with the class of 92) & what does LvG know about how great our youth teams are anyway - Giggsy told him?

LvG has no 1st-hand knowledge of what we need to get back in the game & Giggsy's too close to the squad to give an honest & critical answer in my opinion.

Sure Giggsy played all his mates until the 3rd game of his 4 game tenure (who were shit all season) - where he then started Wilson & Lawrence instead. I can only imagine what advice he gave LvG about the 1st team squad. Hopefully Ed put him straight & told him the truth - most arent United quality anymore & are lavishing in the comfort zone..

I've heard all this keep calm carry-on for years under Fergie, when he never got top players in we were cryin out for, so i'm not listening to any of that nonsense because of LvG's reputation. If he doesnt get top players in for the key areas - then United will have proven themselves to be a complete walkover.

The players we've been linked with would get us fighting for everything next season & if he scraps all of that, in favour of goin Dutch or 30 somethings like Robben & Sneijder - then we're a complete joke.

He works for us - not the other way round & we should be saying that we're bringing in these players - we've done all the groundwork & they'll succeed here. If you have any other other additions you want - tell us & we'll look into that too..

If he cant work with world-class talent that he hasnt chosen - is he gonna get rid of all the deadwood at United then?!

I fail to see why we are even linked with these players. We were never capable of getting established world class players from top clubs unless they are desperate to leave.

I think that we will be aiming for players like Clasie and Strootman. Those are more 'gettable' targets
