I don't believe we've cancelled the deal. Unless we have some better names already lined up (as in negotiating already) i don't see why we would cancel a deal for one of the best CMs in the world for the price he's apparently going for.

Then again this is Woodward.

The manager may not want him. Otherwise he really seems there for the taking.

Just a simple question - if you know a player from a former club and you would want your club to sign him or you were thinking about it - what would you do? Let your new club do it alone - or would you try to get in contact with the player and talk to him? Or first with contacts from that club who might give you some other backgrounds...

Van Gaal had problems at Bayern 3 years ago - not only with Hoeneß but some players intrigued against him, too. Usually that works behind the back of a coach.

Van Gaal has connections into the club. His former assistant has worked another year for Munich before he went to Wolfsburg (and now to Arsenal), his analyst worked in Munich until last summer. He still has contacts to some of the players - the most probably to Arjen.

Let's face it like this. Even if he would have accepted the transfer some weeks ago - he might have had some talks or new knowledge that let him change his opinion. He might even have talked with Kroos.

----------

Before Mario Götze made his contract with Bayern he had phone talks with Guardiola in New York. Javi Martinez and Jupp Heynckes nearly phoned every week for half a year...

Letting your agent come with Moyes to a match of your team when all press is watching is more a showoff...

Im surprised its only united that are linked to kroos. Surely other clubs would be interested too. I think he would be a good fit at barca. They will defintely need a midfielder if fabregas is going as xavi is not getting any younger. It seemed like barca were after gundogan a while ago but were put off by his injury problems.

Underrated player. Unlike Ozil, Sneijder or any of the other number 10s Redcafe has obsessed over, he's also capable of playing in a deeper role.
You say that, but I did not think he was that impressive against us this year. However, as they say judging someone over one or two games is not wise. I am sure he is an improvement on what we have. Question for me, being very biased towards the ability of Mata and Kagawa, is he the guy that would enable them to express themselves, and protect the back with a DM. Guess, we won't know until or if it happens.

I have faith in LVG getting the best of our creative players and bringing in the right support to make sure we are not too open.

If your lot can pull Lily Cole then there's hope for us all.
Johanssen's in the bag after the world cup. (And we've already got Jolie and other beauties in our midst rather than your sad bunch of scrubbers).

Gotta say I liked Moyes' supposed transfer plans.

I agree with this. That was my fear with LVG, I kept hearing how he doesn't like buying players. We really need a squad revamp and I hope he doesn't rely on the same players again.

He already come out and said we'll be active in the market.

Same this was just about the only thing I like about Moyes towards the end of his tenure. The football was shite but I genuinely thought he had targeted some very good players.

Not sure they we're realistic, same as last summer... (wanting to sign Fabregas)

I'm not sure we would have landed Kroos regardless of whether Moyes was here or not.

Absolutely, i said that myself many times.

Expect a backlash though, from folk saying: "yeah right - tell LvG that our list is better than yours & all the groundwork has been done, so just run with ours.."

I never suggested we tell him who to sign, but we know exactly what we need more than he would. He hasnt even seen the squad in training, nevermind know whats needed to get us back in the hunt again. The players we've been scouting are shit-hot, so whats not to like & how would top players not be able to work with LvG anyway?!

If all those players we've been linked with were already at United & LvG came in instead of Moyes last year - would he say he wants a clearout?!

I'm havin my doubts that LvG has a better target-list than we have - quite the opposite!

If there is a chance of getting Kroos this season we will try.. Even though the media says otherwise. Sadly i could see Bayern holding on to him for another year.

Because if you get offered a wage that is too good to refuse, you simply don't turn it down. What is one year extra to a footballer nowadays? He will still get the big fat signing on fee anyway, and the chances of us getting into CL football are still high, even higher now with LVG in charge
Sorry but unless a player is totally stupid and has no agent, he demands a signing fee of the next club if he joins them as free agent, and that signing fee is that high that not just very easily compensates the difference of salaries but exceeds it. Ask Lewandowski how to maximize it; flirting with Real Madrid comes handy. :D

That's why it's naive if fans think that a player running his contract down comes for cheap: The difference for the club is just on which bank account they transfer the money.

This year you have neither CL nor EL football. Kroos can stay very relaxed at Bayern next season, win titles, and joins you or another club in summer 2015 offering CL football and cash in some millions of signing fee. Win-win-win.

Not if you end up with Carmen Miranda starring, of course with Brazilians falling out of favour you could go for the hairy option with Carmen Jones (aka Miranda).
At least we don't have the worry of the enthusiastic, floppy-haired stand-in, who fluffs his lines every time he gets on stage. It'd all start to feel like corporal punishment.

Can someone who really wants him (seems to me most ppl here) explain how they think he will be of any great use for us? At Bayern under Guardiola and Heynckes most of his games have been in the No 10 role AND he had 2 solid CMs/1CM and 1 DM playing behind him.
Whereas we have Mata who is excellent in the No 10 role AND don't have those 2 quality CMs who would be covering Kroos and who are the types we should actually buy to cover Mata/Kagawa and our strikers.

What am I missing? Is it just that because our midfield is so useless we are hoping to buy a player who we want to fulfill a certain role which he hasn't actually fulfilled in the last 3 seasons?

The truth hath been spoken. In the games I've watched of him, he's always had a solid CDM next to him and even then his passing is not as incisive as other Attacking mids. To me he is not the key because he is a jack of all trades and a master of none, which is not what we need right now.

If this quote is true then I can't argue with that. It's what I've been saying. No doubt Giggsy has been in his ear if this is the way he's thinking already.

Where is that quote from? Hmm thats interesting, can't really argue with that.

hmm a few places including the Telegraph reporting Kroos off now.

Damn would have been a good signing for our mifield.

Ahwell, there are other midfielders out there.
There isn't really. We need a top class midfielder, and there aren't many about. We are being linked with jordy clasie, he might be a prospect but feck me if we are going to get anywhere next season we need top class signings. Simple as that really.

A decent article on Kroos from January: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features...invigorate-manchester-uniteds-ailing-midfield

So he'll go to another club & be a success & we'll run through 3 or 4 players trying to find his like, as we've done so many times tryin to replace Keano & now we're trying to do the same with Scholes.

That whole logic that we dont want players coming here for the money is a Fergie deja vu. If we'd have been willing to spend a little more over the years - we'd have won more than 2 Champions League titles.

I wonder what LvG would have thought about Keano's insistence that he be the highest paid player at the club - would that insinuate that he only wants to play United because of money?

Footballs changed for Christ sake & footballers who wouldnt be interested coming to a club can be persuaded because of it - same as every working environment.

Is LvG gonna get rid of Rooney since he only stayed because of the bumper £300k per week too?

LvG: "I want players who want to play and fight for Manchester United, not players that want to come here for the money"

That can't be true. If it is, my estimate of LvG's IQ has just dropped 30 points.

Personally I want the best players. I don't care if they come to Manchester for the damp hookers.

Where are people even getting this quote from? It has the feeling of a made up twitter quote
