The truth hath been spoken. In the games I've watched of him, he's always had a solid CDM next to him and even then his passing is not as incisive as other Attacking mids. To me he is not the key because he is a jack of all trades and a master of none, which is not what we need right now.
That's not remotely true. He isn't a jack of all trades. He has all the attributes of a deep lying playmaker and that's where he's found his best form this season. He's truly exceptional at moving the ball around short and long, is intelligent positionally and has a great long range shot. He's also not a great tackler or athlete. Jack of all trades couldn't be less appropriate, and he's a master of several.

We need both a creator and a holder. Like any deep lying playmaker, Kroos needs that protection and it's something we sorely lack. But no one player can solve our midfield issue, we need at least two. Kroos would have been an immense signing.

Haven't seen much of Kroos, but it sounds like you're describing Scholesy there. How does he compare?

Where are people even getting this quote from? It has the feeling of a made up twitter quote
It probably is, there was a quote allegedly from Van Gaal about Kagawa doing the rounds yesterday/the day before that had absolutely no source. Van Gaal hasn't talked to anyone about anything since that Dutch interview as far as I know, and every genuine quote and appearance on camera will be posted and sourced properly

He's more like Scholes than anyone else currently playing IMO. Obviously a level below and some slight differences but as far as the Scholes mould goes he fits quite nicely.

I'm absolutely gutted as this looked a goer.

Sounds sweet.

Are there any concrete indications that it's off though? Or are you just going by the Jackson article?

I don't think there will be many Utd related quotes from LVG till after the World Cup. He should be in full Holland mode now.

The Jackson article plus similar ones from all the other reliable journalists that were briefed.

Seems ridiculous to complain before the window has even opened, but if it's genuinely true it's utterly baffling. It's not often the opportunity comes around to sign a world class player for a cut price fee in a position we are in desperate need. Only 24 and by all accounts quite keen on the move. Could go down as one of the great what ifs.

There's those but then LVG wasn't a huge fan of Kroos when he was at Bayern either, not that he didn't like him just that he didn't rate him too highly as far as I know. He's more static then Scholes though. That might be because of Pep's style how he played this season though. They're similar with most of their game, he's just not as good as scholesy.

I think Bayern made it clear they weren't selling so we have ended our interest. If Bayern were happy to play ball I'd say we'd be all over it.

Who is though to be fair.

So that's done then?

Either Bayern refused to sell and we backed off or LVG really did pull the plug?

The first option strikes me as more likely.

I don't see why everyone is so worried. Its the Guardian, the Times and who not.

The same news papers who were sure we signed Thiago, Hazard, Fabregas, Kroos (already), Llorris before DDG, Guardiola etc.

Who gives a shit what they say, its not even the least interesting till its said by SkySports, ESPN or BBC.

Kroos has come out himself and said directly that he will be playing for Bayern next season and United was never an option for him.

We move on so. Who's Left? Fabregas, Vidal, Clasie? , Strootman? ...
We're in need of 2 brilliant midfielders.

ESPN and Sky both said it was on, they can be just as bad as the rest of them. The BBC actually does only publish accurate information

Gutted, never believed it when it the rumour first came out but it was so persistent and widely reported that I started to believe in it over the last couple of weeks. Then reports come out saying we agreed a deal for €25 million, and ofcourse I'am a bit suspicious, but I think, hell we signed LVG things are turning around and the club has been very adament they want to compensate for such a horrible season, then you read bild interview from the bayern director in which he is saying that Kroos refused the financial terms and Bayern won't increase their offer and you start believing this might actually have some truth behind it. Than the first moment you start fantasizing about an LVG team with Kroos as playmaker, you are slammed out of your dream by this... feck transfer windows and feck Manchester United and midfielders !

I find it hard to care too much that LVG has shot down a Moyes signing.

By-passing all of Moyes' faults as a manager, but his reported wishlist was world-class & the board obviously agreed too..

Are you seriously telling me you wouldnt want most of these: Kroos, Vidal, Pogba, Gundogan, Reus, Carvalho, Cavani, Coleman, Shaw, Mangala etc.. to name but a few?

No he didn't, he said "i expect". He didn't rule out anything.

And also, which player has ever said while negotiations are ongoing that he would leave?

I'm saying that I don't think Moyes knew how to build a team or implement a coherent philosophy and his transfer strategy was to go after big money players in the hope one would stick. LVG, on the other hand, has a track record of building a team. If he doesn't want Kroos its because of a reason.

If Chelsea fans can trust Mou in selling their best player of the past two seasons then I'm sure we can allow Van Gaal this much...
