Seems like Bayern and Kroos are done. Honestly I trust van Gaal and everything, but I'm really curious who he thinks can bring in and fills the billl better than Kroos.

Yeap. I was typing from our point of view. Fabregas would probably prefer going back to Arsenal. Personally, that suits me just fine. Can't stand the smarmy pizza tosser.

To the Vidal thread!!

Ditto here. Excellent player - not very likeable.

So far I don't see any official sources saying whether Kroos is on or off. All I see are people going crazy over reports with flimsy to no evidence to back it up.

Don't worry, we'll sign Kevin Strootman for £30mill+.

How much we sign someone for is irrelevant. I want good players at our club at any cost. Unless a player coming to United makes you skip a few meals a week, then it shouldn't matter to you either. We're a rich club. Time to act as one after years and buy some top players - and top players want top money.

I don't mind that actually.

By the end of the window we'll probably all be up for it.

For all this money we supposedly have to spend, it still seems that Woodward couldn't even give it away. We've seemingly got way ahead of ourselves again with this Kroos business. The problem is Woodward can't keep his trap shut and is probably, yet again, pissing off clubs across Europe in trying to make us look like we can just do what we want and sign who we want.

No way on earth we would get Robben, he loves Guardiola, only has a couple of years left in his career, he is not going to miss out on CL and potentially on titles. So I assume we're not even interested in him. Van Gaal knows him really well and they will be working together in Brazil, so he knows for sure whether or not Robben would want join us, and my guess is no.

As for Kroos, I hope smokescreen. Other option would be LVG has other plans, like Fabregas or Vidal. If he looked at City's midfield with Yaya and Fernandinho, and Chelsea's with Willian, Ramires, Matic, he might be looking for some very strong and dynamic midfielders. Perpaps he wants a midfield with Vidal + Strootman and Mata or Kagawa on top would be nice.

Van Gaal also praised Vidal a lot when asked, Holland is playing Chili in Brazil. Said he was already interested in him when he played at Leverkusen and Bayern were looking to replace Van Bommel. He chose Juve over Bayern though, and I think he really likes it there.

Or Woodward could also be finalising transfer deals over Europe. We really don't know the situation.

Do you have a link to the the LVG interview about Vidal? I would like to have a read.

VG brought alot of his own players at Barcelona (1st stint). Maybe he's planning a duo buy for Clasie and Strootman? Those players knows VG system inside out and would provide us with ample steel to allow the likes of Rooney, Mata and co to play their magic upfront.

Could someone who knows more about Bayern tell me, is the Ballack transfer the only example of Bayern running down a players contract (who is a regular first time player that they don't want to sell) rather than cashing in with a year or so remaining?

I ask because if this is their regular policy, then they've clearly set the precedent and can't afford to let Kroos leave. It would open the floodgates for any other player to try and hold the club to ransom in exchange for a pay rise. If they hold this policy and outright refuse to ever move from it, it does put them in a strong position during contract talks.

IMO Kroos will come.to United before the end of the transfer window.

During a national team press conference a Dutch journalist asked what do you think of Chili star Vidal. Van Gaal answered he already liked him when he was working at Bayern, wanted him, but Vidal chose to go to Juventus. I swear I have seen the video, might have been on tv.

Looking for it now, but there have been quite some press conferences by LVG the last months.

What do you want? Videos of Woodward/van Gaal saying who we're after. So far, The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph and now even ESPN who thought a deal was done are saying it's dead. Things may change, but as it stands, things indicate that Kroos won't be coming here this summer.

Where do you think today's reports that LVG isn't interested are coming from? As in who's camp and for what ulterior motive?

No need to mate, I was just interested to see if he went into detail because Vidal is dream signing!

I think it comes from us as a negotiation tactic. Forced out of Bayern being stubborn on selling him, sort of a situation where we've tabled the offer, they've said we'll think about it and we've said "fine. We'll look elsewhere" all along knowing Kroos has rejected the contract offer and Bayern refuse to budge on his wages. There's an interview with Kroos in Bild where he says he knew what Bayern would say when he refused.

I think Kroos really really wants the move and before the window is done well hear "Kroos shocks Bayern with transfer request"

Incidentally I think this is a classic power move by us and we've done the same thing for Shaw.

We might be interested in him but I would understand if the club were suggesting they'll just wait until his contracts running out . So these rumors are to be expected, there are other players but he will be free to speak to clubs in Jan and what will Munich do then? 20+ million isn't another to piss away.

If we're rebuilding, why not buy someone else and pick him up for free if we've the opportunity later? That's what I think the club might do, if we're interested.

Look at the bright side, at least it didn't drag out for too long!

Of course that is true; it would be silly to suggest that tackling and key passes are not useful. But is it a surprise that the most key passes made are by Mata, Ozil and Silva, all AMs? Or that the most tackles are made by Vidal and Gabi, both DMs? Kroos has been playing a deep lying role all season, and in a possession-dominating team which doesn't see much tackling in a game, so key passes and tackles were not going to be high for Kroos this season. You have brought up the passing accuracy which shows Kroos to be at the top with Barca players, and you could go even further by showing the number of passes attempted and completed, and it will show him around the top again. His role has not been as a defensive CM to sweep across the back like busquets does, or one that sits in front of central midfield and plays the killer through balls and long shots. Pep has deployed him as a playmaker to keep things ticking over just like the Xavi role, and he has done it brilliantly this season. In fact, if you compare Xavi and Kroos' statistics one by one, I bet they look very similar this season, and to no surprise really.

Well, Kroos is 10 years younger than Xavi and Xavi is having his worst season in ages, so that's not the right standard to judge our top midfield signing.
But if you take Xavi of 1, 2, 3, etc. seasons ago, then Kroos doesn't even come close to him. Xavi then usually had a passing rate of 93/94%, around 2.5 key passes per game AND more goals than Kroos and at least twice as many assists.

Also not only the AMs on my list have more key passes, but Koke has more, while Vidal and Gabi have the exact same key passes as Kroos. BUT at the same time Vidal, Gabi and Koke's tackles per game AND goals/assists are much higher than Kroos'.
Then regarding passing rate you also have to consider the system in which Kroos plays and the quality of his teammates. In a possesion based system with top class midfielders just 3-7 meters away from you and Guardiola as manager, of course Kroos will have great passing stats if he is not an average footballer, which he is not.
But he is not among the very top midfielders and my stats show this. It's always a mixture/balance between passing/controlling the game/defending/chances created/goals/assists, etc. when judging midfielders. And considering all this, Kroos is good, but there are better midfielders around.
All in all I am not sure if Kroos' excellent passing is what we primarily need right now in our midfield. I am also sure if we get him after few games we will have discussions here if he was the right signing and if he was overrated by us.
He is better than anything we have in our midfield, but I wouldn't be disappointed if we don't buy him, especially if the fee and wages are immense.
