It's Woodward briefing, not van Gaal or Moyes.

Smart money has to be on this.

Although one also has to consider that LvG's reputed influence raises a question regarding any discussions he may or may not have had with Woodward regarding what to say/when to say it regarding the alleged A-B-C target list.

People seriously thought he would leave Bayern and come to a club that doesn't play in the CL? Ok...

Something for stat freaks (which I usually am not)! According to the following stats Kroos isn't that good anyway and we should buy Vidal (shock horror): :D

Btw, Mata's and Rooney's stats are impressive, considering they didn't have the best/easiest season and especially with Mata changing teams in January and being in and out of the team. Plus they are not central midfielders, and I have included Özil as well as comparison and tbf to him, his stats are good as well. St. Stevie of Me's aren't bad either.

Tackles and Key passes are per game; goals and assists are season total (PL/other league, CL, EL included). So with goals/assists it has to be considered that some players played more games and minutes than others.

--------------- Tackles-------Key passes-------Goals-------Assists

Kroos ----------- 1.9 ----------- 1.5 ------------- 3 ---------- 6 ----

Fabregas ------- 1.2 ----------- 1.4 ------------- 9 --------- 14 ----

Koke ------------ 2.8 ----------- 1.9 ------------- 7 --------- 15 ----

Thiago ---------- 1.9 ----------- 1.2 ------------- 2 ---------- 4 ----

Xavi ------------ 0.8 ----------- 1.7 ------------- 4 ----------- 5 ----

Modric ---------- 2.0 ----------- 1.5 ------------- 2 ---------- 8 ----

Mata ------------ 1.1 ----------- 2.3 ------------- 6 ---------- 6 ----

Kagawa --------- 1.0 ----------- 0.9 ------------- 0 ---------- 3 ----

Pogba ----------- 2.3 ----------- 1.2 ------------- 8 ---------- 8 ----

Rooney --------- 1.1 ----------- 1.9 ------------- 19 --------- 15 ----

Busquets ------- 2.4 ----------- 0.6 ------------- 2 ----------- 2 ----

Schweini ------- 1.6 ----------- 1.0 -------------- 7 ---------- 4 ----

Alonso --------- 2.5 ----------- 0.8 -------------- 0 ---------- 1 ----

Silva ----------- 1.1 ----------- 3.0 -------------- 8 ---------- 10 ----

Vidal ----------- 4.3 ----------- 1.5 ------------- 18 ---------- 5 ----

Gabi ----------- 3.8 ----------- 1.5 ------------- 3 ----------- 12 ----

Özil ------------ 0.9 ----------- 2.9 ------------- 6 ---------- 11 ----

Carrick -------- 2.1 ----------- 0.8 --------------1 ----------- 0 ----

Stevie Me ----- 2.9 ------------2.0 ------------- 13 --------- 13 -----

I don't want to stir any muppetry but I seriously doubt LVG is telling the press anything at all about our transfer dealings.. I certainly think the leaks of the Moyes era are well gone.

Then you don't know that said leaks were from Woodward.

Irrelevant comparing those players I suppose. These stats are kind of missing out the main stat that Kroos would have been key in which is pass attempts and completion, which was his main role this season

Guess we'll not know what happened here until Kroos' contract expires. Or is renewed.

Given that the Kroos rumours have been around a while, it's likely that this was a Moyes target. LVG probably came and Woody has gone through the current targets with him...

Shaw: "who? One of the best young talents in the Premier League? Yeah, why not"

Kroos: "no, I have other midfield targets in mind" or even "I will work with what is already at the club"

Maybe!

I suppose it's not beyond the realms of possibility Bayern demanded way too much money and wanted to see just how desperate we are and we told them to stuff it.

I hope it is a case of Van Gaal believing he can find better.

I also hope he walks on them next season for now't if they were trying it.

Didn't the "Kroos not coming to United" story break the day after "Kroos will not be offered a higher contract" story broke?

Seems like it became obvious he is only interested in getting a better deal at his current club and we realised that, therefore called it off.

Have the journalists mentioned this?
No, seemingly any rumour that comes out the club is a brief after the Moyes sacking seemed to be that way. Don't personally think they have briefed anyone about kroos. If they had the news wouldn't have been broken by one journalist, Jamie Jackson, with it then being followed up by a nameless telegraph article which was most likely just using the guardians story as a source. Doesn't mean the story isn't legitimate I'm just not as sure as everyone else that every rumour coming out of the club is a brief from Woodward.

Are we permanently out of the CL? feck, this is news to me
Why should Kroos play a season without CL football, not even EL football, when he can stay comfortably in Munich for another year, win 2-3 trophies, and the move on to whichever club offers CL football in season 2015/2016 and is willing to give him a big, fat signing fee that would nicely compensate for the comparably low salary in Munich?

It's a win-win-win situation for him.

So unless people quantify this 'Woodward is doing the leaks' regarding transfer news, we can consider it a WUM...

And you know what that means...

Except then why did it take so long from that conversation for our interest to drop? If that was true you'd expect our interest in him to have dropped straight away, as it did with Carvahlo. Yet these same journalists who are saying it's off were saying it's on up to now, long past the point where LVG's lack of interest should've been clear. So why the delay?

Well, we aren't just buying a midfielder for excellent passing, are we? Surely KEY PASSES and someone who could tackle would be useful as well? But just for you, most of those players mentioned have a very high pass completion rate, but yes, Kroos (92.7 %), (Xavi 93,7 %), Busquets (93.1 %) and Thiago (91.5 %) are the highest. But then you have Cleverley with 89.3 % which is higher than most of the other players on that list. Make of that what you want ;)

Because if you get offered a wage that is too good to refuse, you simply don't turn it down. What is one year extra to a footballer nowadays? He will still get the big fat signing on fee anyway, and the chances of us getting into CL football are still high, even higher now with LVG in charge

This doesn't hurt a single bit... I didn't let myself think for a second he was coming here so it's no skin off my nose.

I promised myself after ThiagOFF, there'd be no more crying myself to sleep any more.

If he's moving for non-profit reasons, so to speak, I'd say it's far more likely he'll be heading back to Wenger.

Hypothetically, how far would Arsenal go to get him - if a move is likely at all? They do have a bit of money now.

Yeap. I was typing from our point of view. Fabregas would probably prefer going back to Arsenal. Personally, that suits me just fine. Can't stand the smarmy pizza tosser.

To the Vidal thread!!

If van Gaal wants Kroos then great, if he doesn't then I'll be slightly disappointed. However, I'm sure van Gaal has a clear plan for this team and his footballing philosophy will be central to who he prioritises as a target.

I'm not entirely sure that Moyes had a footballing philosophy and for that reason I feel more comfortable this summer than last and I'm sure that we know what we're doing with regard to midfield signings.

Of course that is true; it would be silly to suggest that tackling and key passes are not useful. But is it a surprise that the most key passes made are by Mata, Ozil and Silva, all AMs? Or that the most tackles are made by Vidal and Gabi, both DMs? Kroos has been playing a deep lying role all season, and in a possession-dominating team which doesn't see much tackling in a game, so key passes and tackles were not going to be high for Kroos this season. You have brought up the passing accuracy which shows Kroos to be at the top with Barca players, and you could go even further by showing the number of passes attempted and completed, and it will show him around the top again. His role has not been as a defensive CM to sweep across the back like busquets does, or one that sits in front of central midfield and plays the killer through balls and long shots. Pep has deployed him as a playmaker to keep things ticking over just like the Xavi role, and he has done it brilliantly this season. In fact, if you compare Xavi and Kroos' statistics one by one, I bet they look very similar this season, and to no surprise really.
