We wouldn't brief that we didn't want him if in fact we'd actually just been rejected.

It's either absolutely true or a smokescreen, but we've definite briefed them.

Well that's disappointing. feck you redcafe for getting my hopes up.

It does seem a little fishy that this came only a day after the Bayern President said that no contract deal was close with Kroos. Maybe it's part of the negotiating process.

Ahh damn it, the muppet gods have sucked me in again.

Well one good thing is at least we aren't messing around. If he doesn't want to come or Bayern aren't willing to part, then it's a good thing we have swiftly moved on unlike last year with Fabregas.

I think Bayern not willing to sell, which is very very true to their nature, is the most likely scenario.

It's best not to bother bidding for Robben either.

If the board sells Robben heads will roll at the next members meeting. No chance in hell for anything under 60 million. The end.

My personal opinion is that we felt an agreement was close with the player, and we briefed as such. However, on discovering that Bayern were unwilling to part ways with Kroos, we swiftly backtracked and briefed an alternative story.

Mmmm... Woodward does seem to have a habit of trying to manipulate the press to cover for his failings in the transfer market. Often in an annoyingly transparent manner. So that theory is plausible.

His apparent openness with the press regarding transfers is annoying, surely he would've learned his lesson last summer. Anyway, still a long way to go this summer, so time will tell...

Next thing we'll hear Ed is on a plane on "Urgent Business" and the muppet in us will appear only to find Ed has gone missing again. I hate the transfer window.

Moyes didn't want Thiago and LvG doesn't want Kroos. Who are we holding out for then? Who is this legendary midfielder that ticks all the boxes on our checklist?

That raises the rather nasty possibility that we haven't learned from last summer's mistakes, doesn't it? Would be worryingly similar to our attempts at signing Fabregas and Herrera...
Indeed. I really hope we've got some secondary targets too, and not of the Fellaini kind!

Fabregas? or maybe waiting on that cloning machine

Didn't go into muppet mode when news of Kroos started, but if Van Gaal does not rate Kroos, he will be in for the shock of his life when he takes over and watches our midfielders. If a player like Kroos is available, then you sign him and make room for him, just like we should have signed Strootman and Alcantara last year.

There is a shortage of top midfielders that are available, we should be all over Kroos. Strootman may eventually make his way over to Utd, but i have an uneasy feeling about his injury. Ideally we should go for him next summer once he comes back from injury and plays a few months. Fabregas is definitely available this summer, but he may well end up back at Arsenal or City

Oh well, i might have to console myself with Carrick and company stinking up the place another season.

Speculation regarding negotiations and press feeds notwithstanding, is Van Gaal's genuinely not being interested in Kroos really that far fetched? He's no doubt a great player and I'm sure someone who Louis has a lot of time for, but is he what we need? Is he dynamic enough to be part of the duo behind the #10 in Van Gaal's preferred system without needing a heyday Keano by his side? I'm asking rather than implying here, I haven't seen all that much of him, but he doesn't seem to have the defensive game to be the more sitting player in said system (and most of his qualities would be wasted in such a role anyways), so for me the question is whether or not he has the legs to be a proper box-to-boxer. Perhaps someone who knows him better could enlighten me. Basically, I've been keener on the likes of Fabregas, Vidal, Strootman and Carvalho all along, as I just feel they're more complete midfielders as opposed to AMs who can do a job deeper if need be.

Gives credence to the idea that we might simply have missed out on the both of them. That would strike me as more likely than us just happening to hire the two oddest managers on the planet.

Who says LvG doesnt want Kroos? He was the one that brought in through into the Bayern first team
As people are saying, this is likely Woodward's media manipulation in action. Bayern have probably told us to piss off and woody has briefed the press that it is in fact LvG who has asked to pull out. All speculation of course.

Ok LvG is off to a great start.. Who the feck wouldnt want Kroos with Carrick, Fletch and Clev leading the pick for the cm positions at United..

One of the Bayern fans on here said that Kroos and LVG probably aren't the biggest fans of eachother after his time at Bayern. This fits in with what I have suspected, that LVG tries to keep all the arse lickers around him. Part of the reason RVP will be captain is obviously because he's the biggest arse licker and his best mate. 'We share the same philosophies' blah blah blah.

I don't want to stir any muppetry but I seriously doubt LVG is telling the press anything at all about our transfer dealings.. I certainly think the leaks of the Moyes era are well gone.

It's Woodward briefing, not van Gaal or Moyes.

This is sounding a lot like last seasons transfer window. I don't know what to make of this, I strongly doubt LVG doesn't rate Kroos, his talent is plainly obvious to everyone.
