Football is a business at the end of the day. You can talk about how "obstintate" you percieve that a club would be. If it came down getting £30 million for a player who was determined to go, or pay him for another 12 months and lose him for free, then its a no brainer. As good a player as he may be, they could replace him.

Football has changed - money is the bottom line and players are assets. Clubs can bang on about what they would and wouldn't do - we've seen that it s not the case. Arsenal sold RVP - and to a rival, in just this situation because the fee was a massive amount of money.

If anything, given how sensible Bayern and German football tends to be financially, I'd say they were more likely than some clubs to sell a player is a scenario where he was going to move for free.
We don't need to sell him to buy a replacement and we don't have owners who want to earn money with the club. Everything the club earns, goes back into the club and we make a lot of money at the moment anyway. If it makes sense for the further development of the team to keep him, he stays and leaves on a free a year later. It also means that we have one more year to change his mind. We've done that in the past and I can't see why we shouldn't do it now, when our financial position is stronger than ever before.

I just had a text from a friend whos an ex lower league footballer and city fan who has no history of having any connections with anybody. He said 'Bit of inside info for you, Klose for Bayern Munich is having a medical at carrington'.

I said Klose is 35 and at lazio. You mean Kroos? No response.

He's never text me anything other than a joke before so I'd have thought I'd have a punchline by now....

What method should I use to kill him?

Ok he said he did mean Kroos and that a chauffer told him. I'd rate this as about as solid as warm rice pudding but my inner muppet is tingling....

The club is in such a good financial position because they are shrewdly ran, and is in itself a very succesful business. On that basis alone I dont see why any business would allow an asset worth multi-millions to leave for nothing if there is an alternative, just to make a point. Were he to be such a key player that, for example, CL qualification then it may be a different story.

He may be keen to stay and simply using the interest of other clubs to generate a pay rise. Fair enough if so. Be interesting to see what would happen if United offered him mega-wages.

Tell him it aint possible as we only have 1 doc and he's busy holding Vidal's balls for the medical today.

Yet we for example denied Ballack a move to Real with one year left on his contract and let him leave on a free to Chelsea. We make a profit each year anyway, even without selling players, so we have to pay full taxes on outgoing transfers. Even if United offered €30m, we couldn't spend the money in a sensible way, that's the problem. We need to pay taxes, buy a player, pay the agent and usually a sign-on fee, most likely the new player is on significantly higher wages as well. It's never as easy as getting 30m and spending 30m.

I didnt say it was easy to replace players - but if a player is determined to move on, and will do so upon his contract expiring then he still needs to be replaced. Its easier with £30 million than without.

Ballack is a good example I suppose - bit that was a while ago, and you dont know what Real Madrid were offering - the fee may not have been all that tempting. It may even have been the case that he himself wanted to move on a free to maximise his earning potential. If anything, if a huge offer is made for a player who has 1 year left on his deal you'd think that they'd want to avoid another Ballack situation.

As I said - they seem like a shrewdly ran club both on the field and off. To turn down a large bid for a player and lose him for nothing is not desireable. I'm not saying it wont happen, simply that any club would seriously consider a big offer rather than get nothing.

We banned his agent from the club properties because he was an annoying cnut that tried to force the move and Ballack still cries from time to time in interviews that he was denied his dream move to Real despite them offering a lot of money.

Even if he becomes available, we arent going to be the only ones after him. Everyone is going to swarm after him like bees after honey. We have to somehow convince him that United is the best place for him.

After Van Persie and now Mata, I have no doubt that our name carries certain degree of weight. If we're interested, players will no doubt at least listen. We're not a bunch of nobodies like the pessimists are trying to make us believe.

Bloody hell does this go for Gundogan, Vidal, Pogba, Hamsik, Xavi, Verrati... etc!! We are never the only club in for a player.

And we'll be targeting a fair few at once in the view that we'll get one or maybe two. Moyes is probably just doing some homework on this one now to be ready if the opportunity arises in the summer.

Hi!

I saw the discussion about Kroos and I think I could give you guys some explanation on what is going on with the Kroos deal.

Bayern tried to extend him now for a long time. Kicker even reported in summer that he has already extended his contract with Bayern Munich. What is widely believed now is that Bayern are trying to lowball him with an offer believed to be in the 7-8m€ region. Volker Struth, his agent, is also representing Götze and Reus and Götze is the highest paid player at Bayern Munich with 12m€. Schweinsteiger is for example on 10m€. If you compare it to the EPL then 7-8m€ region would be 110k-130k and Götze on 200k. Now what Kroos and his agent are trying to do is using us to show them that other big clubs would easily bow to his demands which are in the Schweinsteiger region (150k per week ca.)

Kroos is also not that loved in Munich. He is very underrated from the fans and only more reasonable fans will tell you how valuable he is to this team. Götze, Shaquiri, Müller, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Ribery are more appreciated.

My opinion is that, at the moment we are clearly being used for the contract talks but if they don't up their offer I could see him leave. But don't forget Pep and his influence. If Thiago doesn't step up and becomes more like Pep wants him I could see Guardiola telling Sammer that they have to extend him under any circumstances. Could be happening but I doubt it.

Homework should have been done from the last window til now, i thought thats what we'd have been doin since the shambles in the summer & we would have made approaches for atleast 2 CM's, a left-back & a CH & have everything sorted by now - not 4 days before the friggin window closes.

We wait in hope, but we need CM's & a top-notch CH & LB. There's quality out there & we need an upgrade now - not just in the summer!

Kroos sounds like a recent change in situation, with no chance of it being resolved before February. If the players aren't available yet we can't really sign them. 4 players that wouldn't just be temporary stopgaps doesn't sound particularly realistic for a January window.

Offered just Mata before this window, hands would've been snapped off.

I thought Shaquiri is struggling for game time. He's more valued than Kroos? Sorry, I have to watch more German football.

I agree with the Kroos siuation - seems like its a bit late in the day. The meetin with his agent & Moyes etc is intriguing tho. Cant see Moyes persuing something now for the summer & not for now. This could happen, aswell as a couple more during this window... We gotta hope sp anyway, because we're severly lackin in CM & at the back too...

Mata was a nice surprise...Kroos could come in Summertime but i doubt it....i honestly think the only player left out there that we may sign but probably not in january is Fredy Guarin.......Luke Shaw, Kroos and Gundogan etc are simply not on the market this january but maybe in summer.......there's talk of Fernando in the papers today but i doubt there's any truth in that as Moyes will want to give Fellaini more time at making it here as a defensive midfielder before maybe considering anyone else for that role

So basically any player who wants assuarances/incentives from his club will flutter his eyes at United? We really need to improve the quality of our squad and stop these fools and their agents from using us

Wouldn't that be in response to money already put on rather than him stalling with Bayern?

It's all getting real lads!!!

Man Utd odds slashed on January deal for Toni Kroos as Bayern Munich talks stall

This has been going on for years now. I remember Xavi being linked to a move to United in 2006 when he wanted a new contract. Iniesta just did the same a few months ago. Players and their agents have always used United as a means to get a better contract

The Jan window was always going to be hard to sign players. Especially from top clubs. Plus I think our strategy this window is spot on, it was going to be hard to sign players so test the waters and see if anyone is interested. As the window comes to a close test the clubs resolve and maybe turn the players head, in that case theres a short amount of time for the club to try and convince them to stay when theres a offer on the table right now.

I would love it if we did our business earlier but this window I can see why leaving it late might be better.
